What do you think is the best race for thieves ? Halfings for nice dex, Dwarves for high Con + Str, Humans for balance or Gnomes for.... well forget Gnomes lol .

Then how come Newb (Human) beat the shiznit out of Dwarf and Halfling Fighters?
I would prefer a good Human thief over a thief of a different race any day. Halfling thieves like to get 7 hp per lvl alot. Dwarves with their high con tend to get relatively low hp. Humans on the other hand get very good hp. But its all a matter of preference. There is no "best" class/race.

humans have lame race modifiers though, a halfing gets extra armor and already hits better, while dwarves are strongest and hit more underground and in shady areas. if your in both you have a dwarf that can hit up to 360. nothing to sneeze at. humans on the other hand are only good if you have your own modifiers to supplement thier mediocre base stats. while they get more hp than races that have less con it doesn't compare dwarves that have 1 less max dex and 2 points better con and str. while some people don't get as good as hp as others it's a safe bet that a dwarf will get more than other races.
really every race has it's pros and cons but the best race is the race that fits what you need in a thief. halflings and dwarves are the best without modification while humans and gnomes tend to perform just as well or better with modifiers.

Just because your human character has more HPs than your others chars doesn’t mean that Humans intrinsically get better HPs….

and they don't, the fact of it is that the higher con you have the more hp you can gain on each level. sometimes humans get more than halflings or gnomes can get more than humans but i doubt you'll see any race other than a dwarf get a 12 without being a fighter.
