On the multi-alt server, the Coliseum is seldom used except by those wishing to craft a Cobalt Bow or Arachnae's Band - very few seem to want to go for the Signets. I have a simple suggestion that would make it more appealing:

For a given monster's difficulty, the general rule of thumb is "high gold, low experience" (Genderas, Museum), "low gold, high experience" (Gnome Caves, Plains of Faravar), or somewhere in the middle. The Coliseum is "negative gold, low experience", costing a lot of gold from the entrance fee and mana crystals, and the long-term goal of a statue is too far away for many players.

Therefore, I would like to propose raising the XP of a number of the bosses to at least 50 XP or maybe even higher. The Bristlemane Wolf and the Black Hand Necromancer should remain low because they are for low-level crits, as well as the toys of the necromancer and the Dwarven Enchanter.

This suggestion is aimed towards the multi-alt server, although it can work on the 1-alt server - high XP bosses that players can share the price of so they all get a taste of good experience... except for the bosses that allow players to level - they should remain at 20 XP because they do have a purpose that drives players to fight them, despite the hefty price tag.

doesn't seem like too bad of an idea to me, it would make me more likely to actually go there without intending on crafting anything

But seriously, I don't agree with this...not everything needs to have high exp...I'm sure people can gain enough exp elsewhere...right Gareth?

The monsters in the arenas generally don't rip your head off and spit down your neck.

On 1-alt, the Coliseum's arena floor is not noPK (unless it was changed specifically on that server) and a rival party can come onto the square to kill you off, although the price tag and the 20-crit limit makes this prohibitive.

Agreed, I don't support their XP being the best in Nightmist, but 50 XP is nowhere near excessive; it is that of a Black Bear. Seriously, who pays 40,000 gold to fight a 20 XP boss? The point is that it appears that most players are not interested in obtaining a statue or it is too much of a long-term target to be viable, much like the Crystal Shards are. What's wrong in offering good experience for a price? On a more economical point of view, it could be a good way to drain gold from the game.

I think this is a good idea for main. I do not think it should in anyway be implemented into 1a. I believe the token to level is plenty and no increase in exp is necessary.

This is just a little extra that came up when talking to another player... the Coliseum Champion's Signet. Along with the statue, would it be feasible to give the signet 4 or 5 armour? It is definitely not easy to get and, being a ring, I cannot see a player getting more than one - it would make the journey much more worthwhile and make the item more appealing to sport on your main crit.

Of course, I'm guessing that it is zero armour and zero stats to prevent a player from selling it and making a fortune to pay back all of those entrance fees.

50xpd would still not appeal to most players...

Indeed. If the idea is liked, it would very likely require further discussion. What's too high? What's too low?
