/library sacrificial ritual

A spell often frowned upon by elder mages. Few select mages can perform, much less over come their moral standards, to commit to this ritual. Through a sacrifice of blood to the greater evils of the world, a mage can often be granted additional mana. Despite the seemingly minute disadvantages to this ritual, lesser mages's minds often become corrupt after several rituals and are more easily prone to temptation.

You inflict wounds upon yourself for x damage, spilling your blood to the earth below.
You are granted y mana.

Hmm, i like it, but I don't think it would be used much unless they have a high lvl cleric with you.

So, arch mage with perfect stats, loses 54hp to gain back 63mana? My maths right?!

I can see smart people with time to spare would soon work out (even sooner now :)) that you can train for longer with this. Two of these would be better than an adv mana. This way you could carry only pots and surive much easier. I like it :blink:

Ugh...I'm absolutely horrible when it comes to making up equations. These two were just thrown out almost completely randomly. If they don't make sense, then please tell me. >_<

Edit: Also, I don't think you need to worry too much about training at level 30. :)

Thats the point... its a trade off. To give up "physical energy" to restore your own "spiritual energy" would be a tough choice. and thats pretty much what it is... I think

Edit: I like this idea, and am willing to defend it to the teeth >_> ^__^ I think this would be great to add into the game...

Plus, i very much love and enjoy your descriptions. They are indeed wonderful.

Ugh...I almost forgot.

Mana cost: 0
Level: 8

Notes: On fizzling, no mana is gained but damage is still inflicted.

Edit: Forgot...again. >_>

Well, it would make training a Mage easy to the max. A Cleric, Mage and a couple of Thieves with mana would go a long, long way.

It's a nice idea, but I don't think it would work out so good in an alt-based world.

Newb makes a few good points. But... its useless in a fight. People would target the mage before it could even cast the spell it had gained mana for, or get healed.
It may work in a party setting, but with alts, i think abuse would be quite limited.
Though it would be attempted... often, i dont think it would work well in a fight...

maybe raise the HP cost a little. :) though i'm not sure what that would do at higher levels... >_>

*shrug*

i think its fine as is... though thats a suggestion that people might not object to as much. the other, being "make them like a pacifist. not able to be used at the time of other characters...

What the what?

I suppose you could change the x forumla to:

x = Level*Constitution/8.5

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At level 30, you'd lose 64 HP.

At level 22, you'd lose 47 HP.

At level 10, you'd lose 21 HP.

That is, of course, if you have 18 constitution.

EDIT: ACK! No! I just realized something! The lower your constitution, the less damage you'll take! Ugh...I think that's bad...of course...

Maybe it's a fair trade up? Missing out on a dozen HP at level 30 in exchange for a lesser punishment when performing Sacrificial Ritual? =\

Silverwizard would LOVE this spell it would really help, making the mage finally be able to carry adv healing and still be able to get back mana without sacrificing too much time on the field. Also with his 12 con he would not lose much HP :).

Yes this is the uber thing that would make mages balanced but the thing is, it is a mage suggestion and therefore nothing will come of it, because mages are the weaklings who are killed.

I...don't think I quite follow. Is this formula already in use by another spell?

i ment that its exactly like the pacifists tribute, just a little more painful...pacifists tribute gold that they can easily make more of for mp and they can train endlessly. Now this idea seems like that, you bring a cleric, you could train the mage for a really long time, the small damage it would take wouldnt hurt the mage at all.

Edit: You also don't seem to actually try out your formulas.

x = Level^2/Constitution

lvl 30: x 20 x 18 x x takes how much damage, does it get rounded down? up? lets say up, thats 4 damage for recieving 60 mp? i wouldnt even buy mana crystals anymore

Actually...30^2 = 900...

900/18 = 50

But...yeah...I'm not too great with formulas. ^^;;

30 times 2 is 30*2.
30 to the exponent 2 is 30^2.
