Conduct on the forums.

This has got to stop.

The way most of you conduct your selves on the forums is TOTALLY unacceptable. This constant attempt to get at others is pathetic and just totally out of order. This forum is to discuss the game, not the players. If you have any problems with the way the staff do things or if players are annoying you, you can email JLH or Pandilex and probably the other staff members too. Believe me, if you have a valid argument against someone else, and if that person is making it their duty to disrupt the fun of others by abusing their power or the rules, the staff/admin will do something about it - But it all depends on how you deal with the situation. If you go flaming them on the forum then the staff are not going to listen to you, and they are certainly not going to take you seriously. However if you email them and display your worries in a mature, responsible manner then they almost certainly going to help you.

Personally I've seen enough of all this staff flaming. It always happens when someone else is hired - and the reason, jealousy.
The only reason you all attack the new staff such as Zephie and Saphyne and whoever else is because you wish you were them, and the thought of you not being them makes you angry enough as to try and destroy what they have in hope that maybe you will be their replacement.

More power to Pandilex if he wants to do something about it, and if it means locking/deleting threads then so be it.
The way some of you get your points across is so downright immature and pathetic that it should be automatically deleted the moment it's posted.

If the staff are cheating or doing something wrong then it will be sorted, JLH and Pandilex know whats going on in the realm and if something is happening they'll deal with it.

i've been in a lot of internet communities in the last couple years and it seems to be all to common for forum enviroments to get angry and stupid over time; it even rubs off on those who aren't. sort of scary when you see it. anyways i made spiffy graph for it.

edit: apparently my graph is now invisible. well poo.
edit: fixed that

I cannot see the graph Embarassed

I think that amount of anger and meanness shown on the forums happens from not being directly confronted by a person, thus making someone more willing to say things they wouldn't say either face to face or in the game.  Same idea follows when a guy/girl is dumps their sig. other on the phone or by letter, because it is easier to do things like that when you aren't directly with that person.

I agree with ste. I mean first of all, why bash any staff....they take time to make this game more fun for us and do they get anything out of it? No. Nothing but stupid little posts flaming them for stupid little reasons. I mean JLH spends his own cash to buy new servers to make the game better. How many of you would actually take money out of your own pocket just to satisfy others? You think he pays for all this to hear about stupid little complaints like the ones posted nowadays. Seriously people, Grow up its just a game.

I didn`t have to read but 1 line of Stiggy's post and I`m already going to say I agree. If you don`t like something in the game or about the game you can do a /who on any sys op and email them with the problem. You are more likely to get a response and action taken by handling things this way. By making issues(most unfounded) public you fill these boards with crap.

Probably the simplest way to describe how you should conduct yourselves in game and on the forum is with the well known saying 'Treat those how you wish to be treated yourself'
Argue and moan and your likely to get a bad response, be sensible and mature about it and your likely to get a sensible and mature response in return.

I also agree with this statement. Now I am sure there are sometimes where I am immature in handling manners, we all have our bad days. Most of the time, I try to handle situations in a mature, reasonable manner. Simply because I don't want an immature response in return. Things I am sick of are flamming staff for no apparent reason and without any proof of their actions. Staff for the most part do work to build this game to make it more fun than a barrel of monkeys, yet whenever they do something, someone flames them. Which is idiotic.

Honestly I think JLH and Pandilex should look for some players, or current staff to moderate forums a bit more. Flamming could be deleted quicker as well as any other rule breaking, then their forum accounts banned and then finally their game accounts deleted.

People just follow these simple rules:

1. Pause

2. Think through your actions.

3. Speak

These simple steps could make the nightmist game and forum a nicer, safer place.

Mammon, do you actually think someone who is pissed, mad, angry, upset.. etc.. will actually think before they act..?! I think not. No matter how many times you people lecture on the forums and in game.. to try and straighten people's acts up.. there will always be that immature/ignorant person there.. so, you'd be just wasting your precious time. There's so many immature players/people for the simple fact the majority of the people that play are not even near the stage of adolescence.

Although, it's sad when you're an adult or close to.. and acting like a little 3 year old. You of all people should know how to act.. you're supposed to set good examples for the little tykes.

Well I'm not sure if the immature part was aimed at me, but if it was, then I reply simply by saying:  Cry.

As far as others being angry and posting things without thinking, they deserve the punishment they earned. If you can't post while angry in a mature manner, don't post while being angry, simple solution.

I whole heartedly agree with Stigamta.

I am still fairly new to the forums, and when I started posting it took me a little longer to post just one post, and still does. I have to go back read it and re-read it over and over again to make sure it wont upset anyone, or sound childish. It dosent really take that long to do.

And yeah if you go by the whole 'Treat others how you want to be treated', I think that would reduce ALOT of the silliness that goes on here.

I think the idea of a forum is great. It allows people to express there opinons, and allows other the chance to give some constructive criticism. But I also think we need to be reminded that its CONSTRUCTIVE criticism....not just criticism.

Perhaps we all just need to take a little extra time and think about what we say before we say it... like Mammon suggested.   Grin

It goes along with an idea called "dehumanizing."  When people do not have to talk face to face, or worry about losing face to others, they act in a totally different fashion than they would if they were speaking to someone face to face.  When someone sees that they will have no repercussions for an action they commit, they are more likely to commit a act of deviance.  I see it all the time as a staff, when cloaked and someone thinks that a staff isn't there, they are more likely to yell a swear etc.  The biggest thing people forget is there is a human behind each of our characters, and they get angry and hurt just as easily as you do.  The forums seem to consist of selfishness and hatred, that would not happen if we were all in a room face to face.  As stated above me, please think before posting and how it will make other people feel, no one likes to be put-down constantly and heckled repeatedly.  Show some consideration and treat each other with at least a little respect.

Alot of trash that is talked can also be accounted to reaction, and I am one of the biggest culprits of that. Some people, such as myself, love to see how people react to different situations. Yes this reflects poorly on myself, but it is a flaw in ones own personality you come to accept. I'm sure alot of your have seen my sometimes spiteful, obscene, abstract, humorous unrelated posts (mind you I try to keep most of my posts 65% - 70% on topic). And it's the reaction it's all about, the ability to make someone 'feel' something, and thus bring yourself the satisfaction that you may indeed, have power over one tiny little thing, however miniscule, it's something that you can fashion to your own ends. The greatest ideal for the obscurely minded poster, is having someone despise the post you have just made, in order to recieve a highly vehement response, and in their passion, the need to justify, defend, and condemn, comes exactly what is sought after, a higher level of feeling.

Some use their curiosity for 'Evil', some use it for the betterment of our moods with humour. What we are seeing a case of at the moment, is peoples interest in the common chap expire, and thus are turning towards a source that will bring them reactions on a larger scale. This portal for widescale reaction, is staff, when someone lodges a complaint against staff, an opening has appeared for people to satisfy their need for that which is discussed above, whether it be condemning the staff with outrageous accusations, to absolute mindless sickening compliance, both of which have recieved little thought, but are there none the less just for the 'fun' of seeing people react, just for the fun of 'swimming' against the tide.

It's almost like modern day youth, always wanting their own scene, their own image, they want to rebel against the ideals of the past, they want to lose the status qou (spelling?), mix things up a little, and most of all, been seen as something other than the 14 - 21 year old kid playing nightmist in their own cess pool of loneliness, without the social nor intellectual ability to make themselves seen in the real world, so they alleviate their need to be noticed, and their hunt for emotional response/involvement on forums.

As I said, I am indeed one for the attention post, but not so much as the insanity that we see today.
