Nightmist Rules (some are for staff use only) 1) Swearing & Abusiveness a) Constraints i) Allowed in clan/friend/enemy/party/paging chat unless someone seeing it complains to a staff member. ii) Swearing in other ways including, but not limited to; yelling, general chat, and other public areas is punishable. b) Punishments i) The degree of punishment for a minor first offence is limited to a warning page. ii) Second minor offence will be delt with by another warning. iii) A harsh offense or a 3rd minor offence will be delt with by a dayban, and a staff comment saying the crit was daybanned for swearing. iv) If on the following day the player still continues to do this, another dayban is permitted. v) Future occurances will result in character ban for 1 week then 1 month, then the same with the pc itself. 2) Monitoring Trades a) Getting Staff i) Page staff shown on /? or yell (as cloaked staff may come to your aid). b) Item Trades i) The best way for this to occur is for both people to give their things to the staff member, who then swap it over. ii) Teleporting players around the map is not allowed. c) Character Trades i) The staff member should be given the item(s)/gold used for buying the character. ii) Then the character should be transferred. iii) Upon completion and the buyer is happy, the staff will give the item(s)/gold to the seller. iv) Teleporting players around the map is not allowed. d) If it Goes Wrong i) If for some reason the trade goes wrong and you can't fix it, and you require admin assistance, post on the staff forum detailing it with time/date of occurance. e) Levelling or Lending i) Paying someone to level your crit or lending someone an item for X amount of time is not supported by staff. 3) Providing Help to Players a) What to Bear in Mind i) People of all ages play Nightmist ii) Some players are annoying and just want to chat with you for hours on end, if this is annoying you, tell them, don't just cloak or they'll just be back later. iii) I (JLH) reply with macros usually, as most of the questions i am asked can be answered by a yes or no. Macros can be useful for certain responses. An old staff favorite was "/r We do not give out any information that provides a particular player with an unfair advantage over any other players". iv) If you are working or something and not available for player interaction, i prefer you to cloak rather than DND. Since when DND, players will just yell for you as they see you on /? v) Do not go AFK while uncloaked, as you'll just have a load of pages waiting for you from angry players who haven't got a response. b) What not to say i) Don't swear at players, this will not be permitted and may result in suspension. ii) If a player needs to know the way to a particular area, you are allowed to reply with a rough direction such as "to the far north east". iii) When asked how to get into a certain area when the game says something like "You need an item to go that way", you can't tell them what they need, but advise them to look around the surrounding areas for clues, or to check the help forum on the website. iv) If asked where to get a specific key item or find a specific monster, you are not allowed to tell them where it is obtained. c) What not to do i) Teleporting players around the map is not allowed. You may give a general indication of the world direction to head in but that is all. 4) Area Involvement a) As staff, you have access to the staff map section of the forum, and therefore know before the players the best way to complete an area. b) Area Testing i) The exception to this is cities with shops in, and testing of areas with either staff made crits or player helpers, whereby any items/gold the players get are removed at the end of the testing period. ii) Testing must be conducted with the builder present. c) Playing on Normal Characters i) You are not allowed to kill bosses or obtain items in staff areas until a month has passed from the area being released. ii) You are not allowed to lead parties in the previously mentioned areas either during that time. iii) You are allowed to be a member of a party being lead by a non-staff member, but are not allowed to help with clues to complete or achieve an objective in the area. 5) Sharing Characters/Items a) Facts i) Many people do this, even tho we strongly advise you not to do it. ii) I don't think there has ever been an occurance of someone losing items/crits without sharing. There have been a few rare cases where someone sent someone else a virus/trogen and taken over there system, but this is rare. b) What to do if You Are Stolen From i) The short answer is very little, as it is pretty much always your own fault. ii) If the value of the items is large, you may get a chance of restoring it by memoing me with full details. This includes what was missing, time and date you last had it, time and date you noticed it missing, what crit it was on at the time. There is no guarantee you will get anything back. 6) More when i think of them - JLH
