March Madness!
27 February 2008 - 03:22 PM
With a tip of the hat to Basketball's March Madness (college run-up and finals), A series of events will be run each and every day during the month of March. The prizes will be awarded on April 1. I promise that whatever else happens on April Fool's Day, it will not include the prizes for March Madness: real prizes will be given. What are the prizes, you say? There are seven.
1 Grand Prize (that anybody would be glad to win)
2 not so grand prizes (valued at oh, 5-10k each)
5 prizes (valued at 3-5k each)
Event times will rotate betwee 2:15 AM (server time) and 8:15 PM (server time). This translates into 9:15 PM Eastern rotating with 3:15PM eastern. This plan is to give everyone as much opportunity as possible, so we are trying to vary the schedules. It is unlikely that anyone will be available for all of the events. If you are, then sadly you probably have as little personal life as...me.

Prelude To March Madness (1a)
26 February 2008 - 10:54 PM
Yes, the Best of Moshes have begun. I started them as soon as I thought of them. Why? Pretty much because that's the way it is with events. I didn't know, and certainly didn't expect, that these titles would actually be coveted by anyone. It's just my way of trying to build interest in events coming in March. I'll post later on the details of March Madness, how and why I think it will work, and it is about fun.
If you cannot be here for some of the events, I'm sorry. They will have to run sort of in a time-window, instead of being scheduled for a particular hour.
I tried to arrange them on the basis of population: when most crits would be on. I'm not a mind-reader though, and who knew this was going to be that much in demand?
We have had Best Cleric, Best Druid, Best Fighter, and Best Paladin.
Coming to a theater near you: 1am (server time) Best Ranger
1:30 Best Berserker
2:00 Best Mage
2:30 Best Thief
if large parties are out busily training, the times may fluctuate a bit. they are also pending my availability to be here to run them (or other staff running them is of course fine if you ask)
One more thing: complaining on and on like a little kid is only going to make me more resolved not to give you what you want.

Whining About The Success Of Others?
26 February 2008 - 03:54 PM
Don't you just love it when people whine about how cool you are? It's the same thing as saying, "I'm jealous because you are so great." Some of you reading this would rather whine than listen to what I have to say, so that's perfectly fine with me. But I'm tired of hearing it.
Do you have a gripe because somebody else is better than you? Planned better? Has worked at it longer and has made good decisions? Why should they be penalized? Do you really want staff to intervene, and level the playing field? Maybe your complaint isn't really that Nightmist Multi is nopk. Maybe your complaint is that 1A should be set to /no XP. That would certainly help a lot. We could just issue everyone a short sword, and make sure that no one can leave the town of Nightmist. You could be assigned to a random clan when you logged on, and never be allowed to change.
Of course I'm being facetious. Here's notice that until I'm instructed that this punishment is too severe, this is what you will earn:
If you complain about a player's success, the crit that complained will get their staff comment changed to something that praises the person you are complaining about. Complain about a clan, and the clan is praised. It's just that simple. No, you're not going to like it. My hope is that at least it will cut down on whining.
Don't like the comment? For the first infraction, you might be able to get it removed (depending on the severity of the complaint) by honestly agreeing to stop with the whining. Second offense? You get to wear the praise comment for a full week. Third infraction? You wear it for a month. Fourth infraction? maybe we'll decide to give your crit to that person, wouldn't that be sweet!
Now some of you clever people out there will decide, "that Tecton is such a putz. I can get a free vanity tag by getting somebody to work with me". Well sorry about that--but I'm already on to that. I wouldn't try that. You'll get a far more embarrassing staff comment, and the unlikelihood that any staff would want to remove it for you.
Let's celebrate the chance to excel, shall we? The success of some should herald the possibilities for you as well!
