You attempted to cast a spell, but it fizzled out.
<Name> attempted to cast a spell, but it fizzled out.
In the case of PKing, alot of people, when they see that, they don't know if the attacker has any intent of attacking them, so.. It should be something like:
You attempted to cast a spell on <name>, but it fizzled out.
<Name> attempted to cast a spell on you, but it fizzled out.
<Name> attempted to cast a spell on <victim> but it fizzled out.

Well, this IS text based, not something that's going on in real life, in which meaning if you saw someone tried to cast a spell on you, which fizzled, it'd be noticed, and the victim of the fizzle can respond in attack. Supported. You wouldn't be able to tell really... all you would see is a pathetic little flash at the end of their hand or wand, so it would be hard to know if it was aimed at you. Still, I haven't got anything against it.

However, if a person tries to heal you, you should be the same message as a failed attack spell.
If you know the person is a cleric, it won't bother you. However, if you're not paying attention, it will give you the startle.
