Other Text Based Games

I dunno, I never got hooked on D2, though I tried.
Counter-Strike just got out of date on my computer and too hard to run...other problems so I just never really played it for too long.
FF games have always entertained me a lot, but I didn't get FF11...simply don't like the idea of paying more than once for a game (monthly fees sound annoying to a 16 year old, give me a break).
But, other text-based game....I've honestly never even seen one, at least not with any type of activity like Nightmist or multiplayer so to say. I am not considering playing one, I just saw that topic on game discussion and it brought the thought into my mind-
"There are other text based games 'like Nightmist'? Why the hell do they exist, NM dominates..."
Anyway, I don't know how people would or should respond to the post, but ya...it's late, blame the time not the mind.

MudConnector
MudMagic
Mpogd's mud list
Most muds don't have a large playerbase, even smaller than NM but depending on which you play you can find some good communities. I won't list the one game I actively play in fears of this community poisoning it :D.

Do you mean your computers too out of date to run it or CS it too out of date for it to work? Coz I find both of them hard to believe tbh. It doesn't take a very powerful machine to play it and I doubt that your pc would be too 'advanced' to play it. If you are having problems this sites quite useful:

Heres few text based games i know:
http://www.truecrimeonline.com/
(not finished yet, but very interesting project. This game used to be black market online, but recently bmo went "offline" and they started making a new game which is going to be better than bmo. )
http://www.bat.org/
( this is the best mud ive played, it allso has a "hc" version which is the same, but when you die you die. Batmud has many players and i dare to say that it has far more players than nm. )
Allso, if you want to check out online games ( rp or just mp ) check out this site

I also have a computer that gets pissy with me, and CS often ended up booting me, but again, I think it had mostly to do with my version of the game being too old.
It's cool though, I don't really plan on playing it. I just prefer NM to other games because I know people and stuff. It also doesn't take up the whole screen or always require a lot of attention; so I can talk on AIM, look at forums, and have a box opened up. Just doesn't give me annoyances or problems, and I've played for ages..or it seems like it.
...one problem I found today is trying to log up 35 crits, fill with mana, and run over to keep it somewhere and train :-X

Oh, right. Yeah, it can be a pregnant dog to get steam and update it and CS, but once you've done that it's fine, and generally you don't have to do it again (there are occasional 1 minute downloads you need to do to update steam, but those are like once a month if that).
It's cool though, I don't really plan on playing it. I just prefer NM to other games because I know people and stuff.
I thought the same thing.. but if you play around for a week or so, playing on all the maps, then when you've played on most of the maps, you can pick your favourite ones and find a server that just runs them. Then you can add it to your favourites list on the 'find games' option and spend all your cs time on the one server. Eventually you get to know all the people that go on there and then you can talk on a mic to them (or type) while playing, which makes it more fun
Another good idea is to join a clan... clan matches are so much better than normal cs: you don't get any retards cheating, there aren't any noobs, so you actually have to play well which makes it fun and even more rewarding when you win, and there is a LOT of teamwork involved. It does get pretty hard to hear your clannies when all 5 of you are talking on the mic at once though lol. You also make friends with your clannies, so not only do you play cs which is fun but your also playing it with friends... which is even better
*shrugs* I just think a lot of people comment on how crap CS is, when they haven't actually played it properly: clan matches. That is where the real teamwork comes in. And there aren't any hackers which helps a bit

Actually he didn't make it, a player suggested it and wanted it on there so of course he put it on there. As you can see thehttp://www.odious-on.../page.php?id=11
wonder where he got this idea from...

and
http://www.darkgrimoire.com/index.php - This one is much more strict on roleplaying than any I've been to. It's also slower going because it's just browser based.
