Nightmist is the only text based game I've ever played. I hear about Revelations or something like that, and I used to hear about Realms of Kaos or something.

I dunno, I never got hooked on D2, though I tried.
Counter-Strike just got out of date on my computer and too hard to run...other problems so I just never really played it for too long.
FF games have always entertained me a lot, but I didn't get FF11...simply don't like the idea of paying more than once for a game (monthly fees sound annoying to a 16 year old, give me a break).

But, other text-based game....I've honestly never even seen one, at least not with any type of activity like Nightmist or multiplayer so to say. I am not considering playing one, I just saw that topic on game discussion and it brought the thought into my mind-
"There are other text based games 'like Nightmist'? Why the hell do they exist, NM dominates..."

Anyway, I don't know how people would or should respond to the post, but ya...it's late, blame the time not the mind.

There's probably more muds out there than any other kind of game, most real muds aren't standalone and you'll need a decent mud client (zmud, wintin, portal). You can use telnet of course, but if you're planning on actually playing one instead of just checking it out, get a client.

Topmudsites
MudConnector
MudMagic
Mpogd's mud list

Most muds don't have a large playerbase, even smaller than NM but depending on which you play you can find some good communities. I won't list the one game I actively play in fears of this community poisoning it :D.

Rev isn't too bad, but almost every level 100 is an arrogant jerk, and will do anything in his/her power to piss you off and make playing rev as unpleasant as possible.

Counter-Strike just got out of date on my computer and too hard to run...other problems so I just never really played it for too long.

Do you mean your computers too out of date to run it or CS it too out of date for it to work? Coz I find both of them hard to believe tbh. It doesn't take a very powerful machine to play it and I doubt that your pc would be too 'advanced' to play it. If you are having problems this sites quite useful:

There is another one coming out called Odious-Online and Prophecy-Online, but I'm pretty sure I won't be aloud to post the links, who knows maybe JLH will delete the names of the games I just put up :P

Odious-Online :: http://www.odious-online.com
Prophecy-Online :: http://prophecyuk.pr...3.com/index.cgi

Note :: Odious is alot better and advanced than Prophecy.

Odious is also made my Minion who has trojan'd/keylogged nightmist people for their characters/accounts. I wouldent doubt if he adds something 'extra' to the client.

Although some people do 'grow up' over time.

There are more muds than anyother mmorpg's and they are usually completely free to play, it needs a bit time to learn the game though.

Heres few text based games i know:

http://www.truecrimeonline.com/
(not finished yet, but very interesting project. This game used to be black market online, but recently bmo went "offline" and they started making a new game which is going to be better than bmo. )

http://www.bat.org/
( this is the best mud ive played, it allso has a "hc" version which is the same, but when you die you die. Batmud has many players and i dare to say that it has far more players than nm. )

Allso, if you want to check out online games ( rp or just mp ) check out this site

The game is out of date on my computer. I just have the original CS disk and I never bothred with doing all of the updating and using Valve or whatever the new stuff they want you to have on your comp to run it.

I also have a computer that gets pissy with me, and CS often ended up booting me, but again, I think it had mostly to do with my version of the game being too old.

It's cool though, I don't really plan on playing it. I just prefer NM to other games because I know people and stuff. It also doesn't take up the whole screen or always require a lot of attention; so I can talk on AIM, look at forums, and have a box opened up. Just doesn't give me annoyances or problems, and I've played for ages..or it seems like it.
...one problem I found today is trying to log up 35 crits, fill with mana, and run over to keep it somewhere and train :-X

Oh, right. Yeah, it can be a pregnant dog to get steam and update it and CS, but once you've done that it's fine, and generally you don't have to do it again (there are occasional 1 minute downloads you need to do to update steam, but those are like once a month if that).

It's cool though, I don't really plan on playing it.  I just prefer NM to other games because I know people and stuff.

I thought the same thing.. but if you play around for a week or so, playing on all the maps, then when you've played on most of the maps, you can pick your favourite ones and find a server that just runs them. Then you can add it to your favourites list on the 'find games' option and spend all your cs time on the one server. Eventually you get to know all the people that go on there and then you can talk on a mic to them (or type) while playing, which makes it more fun ^_^

Another good idea is to join a clan... clan matches are so much better than normal cs: you don't get any retards cheating, there aren't any noobs, so you actually have to play well which makes it fun and even more rewarding when you win, and there is a LOT of teamwork involved. It does get pretty hard to hear your clannies when all 5 of you are talking on the mic at once though lol. You also make friends with your clannies, so not only do you play cs which is fun but your also playing it with friends... which is even better :D

*shrugs* I just think a lot of people comment on how crap CS is, when they haven't actually played it properly: clan matches. That is where the real teamwork comes in. And there aren't any hackers which helps a bit :P

Heh, I'd tell anyone who said CS wasn't a tight game that they were a fool or just not a fan of that type of game. I've never been big on game similar to it, but CS is tight. Simply never really played very much and just ended up back on NM.

D2 is overrated IMO.

I believe in the Triune God;God the Father, the Son , and the Holy Spirit.I believe that while I was helpless and sinful, Christ died for me. Therefore, I now have the righteousness of God, old things have passed away and I am a child of God. I cannot be separated from the love of God, Christ lives in my heart by faith and therefore, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I have been chosen by God and appointed to bear fruit for God. I resist the devil and he flees from me.
