/library Destiny Bond

Beginning mages learn quickly that the world is a vicious place. As such, many try to learn this spell as quickly as possible. Through deep concentration and weaving of life-energies, a mage can effectively "tie" together the vital strands of mana inside two entities (one being the mage themself) - should one of the strands faulter, both victims of the spell will fall. However, the intense concentration of this spell leaves a mage unable to move or weave any spells.

Spell Book Cost: 3000 from guild (or maybe a drop but let's not get carried away)
Min. Level: 20
Mana Cost: 70
Duration: 60 seconds

Effect: Long story short, a mage casts this on another person. If the mage is killed in the next 60 seconds, both the mage and the victim of Destiny Bond die. Likewise, if the victim of Destiny Bond dies, the mage will also die.

Notes: Every 15 seconds, there should be a notification along the lines of:

Jane_Mage's body glows a strange, golden aura.
Joe_Berserker's body glows a strange, golden aura.

I can't think how I might use it yet, but I do like the idea of it - it does not seem to unbalance the game in any obvious way. I presume you cannot cast it on Pacifists, because I can imagine people casting it on them and then commiting suicide somehow, and thus taking the life of the Pacifist.

I actually... think that would be kinda fun ^^ It would mean it was in the pacifists best interest to pay some attention and keep the mage alive :P

Besides, mages are nasty to train- who'd want to suicide and lose what experience they've managed to get? Although then again, I might, if I were annoyed at a particular pk-ing party :S

"Beginning mages learn quickly that the world is a vicious place. As such, many try to learn this spell as quickly as possible"

The first sentence is fine... However for the most part this spell will not help the mage in any direct way, so I don't quite understand where the second comes from.

Pokemon and YuGiOh aside, I really like this idea ^^
I don't quite see where the YuGiOh and pokemon come into it actually... and I play those games, so I really should ^^

If someone starts attacking you (and you survive the first round), you can cast this on them (assuming they're alone) and then laugh in their face for the next minute.

I was also thinking that...let's say in the Triplex, you're against a team of very strong opponents. The mage can easily Destiny Bond him/herself to their strongest link and ask his allied Thief to assassinate him. The mage will be out of that bout but, maybe with the enemy's strongest character gone, the mage's team can stand a chance.

...And I think Destiny Bond might be some kind of Pokemon attack. Meh.

I don't really see how... seeing how a mage can't move or cast spells while this is cast.

I think the worst case scenario would be a group of mages casting this on an entire party, making it some kind of forced stalemate.

And, besides, if you're going to use this spell to PK, you have to realize that your mage will have to die, too. Mages aren't exactly the easiest to train so this spell will hardly be used in that way.

Lastly, I'll note that again that this spell can't be cast on monsters. That means you can't just instantly kill the TK or whatever by killing your own mage.

Too much abuse.

Make it a level 29+ spell . . . that way people will think twice before training up a bunch of level 20 mages to go pking with

I agree with Despair, a higher level would be better, somewhere 27+. It has the chance to be a very strong spell in the right hands,,

I think AoP requires level 28 so level 27 seems pretty good. That, however, means that I need to change the description.
