I would just like to say im quitting the army after this current tour of Afghanistan and would like to offer my services as an Area Developer/Designer to nightmist.(I will have alot of time on my hands)

Some of my work is currently in game(New leveling system)and one of my main ideas (Farsight) is under the nightmist development section.

I would like to get some feedback from the nightmist community and in most part, the current staff.

My main aim would be to expand what is currently possible with nightmist, using the features and spells currently in game.
I would be looking to balance the classes by introducing more varied items and area's, while improving current area's by the addition of small automatic quests.

I would like to also introduce a highly customisable craft system using some of the metal ores currently available in game, creating a few thousand new item possibilities. If anyone would like me to expand on these idea's, they can send me a PM and i will gladly explain what anything means.

I'm going to be blunt, I know what you can do, I also know your mind sometimes wanders too far. I'll pick something from your starting post. A thousand different crafting ideas seems nice, but looking at effort and reward, it would be way too much work and it wouldn't add all that much. Look at the current alchemy, it's very nice, but people just don't do it, they find the few things from it that they actually need/want and all other things are discarded. It's better to focus on quality then on quantity.

I have some areas in the making, and other ideas that are just laying around. My biggest fall back was that I have trouble writing up descrips and all that stuff, but it seems to be your strength (from what you gave me). Currently biggest fall back of me is that I deem it a waste of time (I used to think up things quick enough, game mechanics and everything, but took me 30minutes to make one simple room or npc description, now think about how many you need for a simple thing, and yea..it adds up), especially since I'm now busy graduating and I just don't have any drive for this anymore.

Anyways, I support it, if you're supervised.

Thankyou for your honest input marteen, i know one of my own biggest drawbacks i my ability to lose track of what im doing and focus on something completely different. I can be like a magpie and get distracted by shiney things. With the correct support chain though, i believe i could be a valuable member of the development staff.

The ideas based on the thousands of craft items would be rename items for role playing purpous. Being able to use Silver,Gold,Bone,Pewter,Iron etc to craft sets of items for characters.

eg CareBear is a Male Human Archmaster Class V Assassin. He looks strong, wise, fast, and average looking. In one hand he holds a Bone Dagger, the other a Bone Bracer. He is wearing a Ribcage, and a Skeletal Skull Helm protects his head. Around his neck sits a Sharktooth Necklace. He has a Bracelet of Hope and a Bracelet of Hope around his wrists. He is wearing a Bone Ring, a Bone Ring, a Bone Ring, a Bone Ring, and Protective Bone Gauntlets on his hands. His feet are protected by Bone Sandels. He is a member (»Årmÿ õf Twõ«) of Pandemonium and he is in a healthy condition.

Library info for Bone Dagger:
Base damage: 27, Can be used by: thieves, Description: This crude weapon you see before you has been fashioned out of what appears to be a mans left arm, The point to the blade has been crudly sharpened to a suprisingly deadly point. The hilt of the weapon comprises of a small rodent skull, fixed to the rest of the weapon with a crude glue., Level needed to equip it: 28, Magical: No, Vamparic: No, Armor: 0, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: 0, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0, Poison chance: 0, Poison/30s damage: 0, Monster damage table: , Mana leech: .

Library info for Bone Ring:
Armor base: 3, Can be worn by: clerics, druids, fighters, mages, paladins, rangers, thieves, pacifists, Description: The Bone Ring is a ring made purly out of animal bone. Across the top of the ring, you can see scratches and dents where the poor creature was killed to make it.Suprisingly though, it provides a high ammount of protection when made correctly., Level needed to equip it: 25, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: 0, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0, Absorb spell: 0.

And i realise it would be alot of work designing all the set items (5 or 6 per class) but it is work i would be willing to do. And i believe it would be worth it for myself, and the playerbase :P

I definitely support you, Jase. I have seen some of your work and have liked it very much.

The new leveling system is brilliance, as well as the crafting system proposed 2 posts up. It may be a lot of work, but I think it would end in being some more fun towards the game and may even bring in some players if they can have fun even in a roleplaying aspect.

Nightmist doesn't need more content, there is loads and loads. More is only nice for existing or old players, and you can only bring people back so many times.

What Nightmist needs is to get the word out that it exists, but being a free to play game, would be difficult with media advertisement. Probably what would happen first is a dedicated player doing something local.

A random influx of 50 players would be nice, but how many would get past the roller? However many get past it, how many of those would make it past the antisocial playerbase?

It's possible for Nightmist to be revived if the word is got out, but it needs to be made more newb friendly for sure. Not the game contents, but being able to play the games content.

Here are my gay suggestions.

On 1a..I'd say +2 from the lowest stat possible from the roller, so it'd be -9 from max instead of -11. On main, you could want 50+ crits for yourself, +4.

On 1a, almost all of the current players have a lvl 30+. With how much more powerful crits grow at 30+, I'd almost say instead of lvl 5 for pvp combat, make it 30.

Getting just a lvl 15, 20, 25, and 30 crit besides your main to pk is cakewalk. It's way too easy to be an asshole and hunt/stalk anyone (besides a lvl 4 and under), and too many people take advantage of it. I personally have loved this game where one can kill with no consequence, and I'm sure a majority of the people who still play do (because they're the only ones left ;p). It doesn't make sense to take that away, and since a majority of people have 30+ anyway, increasing the pk cap would seem to work.

On main, I doubt people have parties of lvl 15s or 25s specifically for pking noob parties, so pking there probably isn't much of a problem in the early levels, but I haven't played it in 3 years so I wouldn't know for sure.

Besides all that, I fully support Jase being staff, he would do a fine job. Better than me anyway keke

Edit: Forgot 3 words, from the roller.

I only skimmed this post, so I may not be correct from not reading it fully, but here is what I got from it.

It seems Marty wants you to be his secretary Jase. Are you willing to fetch him coffee and cake at his beck and call?

An area designer is not really what nightmist needs at this very moment, but maybe an area redesigner, to balance out the hps of some bosses who have not been tackled. Let the 1alt server destroy these areas first, before putting in anything new.

Support for you becoming a staff helper at this time, but not a full designer though. Let's start small then work for big.
I would ask myself why, but even I do not know everything.

I agree with Walt, except the secretary thing that I don't really understand.
Perhaps go about suggesting ways to balance the game's current aeas under the Development or Suggestions section. See if you've actually got a knack for it and interest in it. Perhaps after making such contributions, JLH or Wes will see it fit to promote you to the staff team.

It really doesn't make sense to just add staff because players are interested or willing to staff. They ought to make contributions and improve the game to prove they know how to and to find out if they actually like it. We've seen how just dropping people into the staff team works (poorly, myself included as far as actual volume contributed).
Wisdom is the principle thing. Therefore, get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding.

I 100% agree with Gaddy, and under a few different Forum names i have posted many suggestions for Improvement and Development. "Shera" Mostly.

There is currently some of my Descriptions for rooms and NPC's in game on the 1alt server, that i did to help out Marteen.

The only problem ive come across attempting to imput suggestions and idea's from a players perspective is that possibly my idea's for balance arnt taken as seriously as id like.

I also agree with walt that the current area's need alot of thought and re-jigging, and player input into these problems is the only way i can see this progressing. Having staff members that regularly play and take part in things, that then can make an assesment of the difficulty based on the reward, and make suitable adjustments.

One of the things i would like to introduce is miniture quests involving some of the less used bosses and drops, that produce the keys to new area's. Blade of Sacrifice for example, could be traded in for a key. This would bring more use out of area's people have probably forgotten about, and also provide a new task in the new area.

Its not about building something completely new and independant, its about integrating what we have and dont use, with something new :P
