The Nightmist Helper is almost complete. I will need 5 (At the most) experienced players (Only people who know the game well, to correct any mistakes in the helper) to test the helper before releasing it publically.

When the testing stage is complete, the source code will be handed over to JLH to look through, before distributing it to the official Nightmist website.

Once this is released on the Nightmist website as a stable and complete version, I will begin work on my Nightmist Skin Editor. :)

Please add me to MSN or send me a PM if you wish to test.

Notes:
I am aware of the max level increase of Nightmist Multi.
The current Nightmist Helper does not support Nightmist Solo.

The helper is now available to use, with a "JLH Approved" version available to download directly from the Nightmist website.

Enjoy!

I presume you're gonna eventually make the weapon/armor files? I'd rather not have to make every single item file by myself <.<

People have been offering to do the equipment data for certain towns. I've been doing Nightmist recently, and somebody paged me in-game yesterday offering to cover Resthaven.
There will be a new update soon though, as I will be adding data for Location and Price.

Anybody been using this yet? Would be great to have some feedback and stuff. Been really busy lately, and just had a crash on the bike so haven't been around to add stuff to the database.

I wish the picture names weren't so generic.

I've put in most (all?) the Nightmist weapons, and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the Nightmist armor in. About half of the stuff I put in has no picture, because I'm too broke to buy them all and I can't differentiate between the six bows :)

Don't worry too much about the pictures. The files can be edited by other players and I'm more than willing to upload any files and release them as full packages (Nightmist Weapons, Nightmist Armor, Nightmist Potions etc.) so that players can download them.

I just moved into my new house so I don't have the net at the moment. Got a wireless card on my house-mates PC so I can get on at some point. I'll have to get my own today and see if I can hook it up.

It's good to know that people are using the helper to produce their own databases, and I'm willing to help you in any way I can.

I'm not sure if I can get JLH to update the exe on his website every time I make an update, so there might not always be a "JLH Approved" version of this helper. But surely by now you know that it is a legitimate peice of software that is safe and functional.
I've not yet been told of any bugs or errors in the program so I'm quite happy with the results thus far.

Let me know if you need anything.

EDIT: It's all just C&P from the /library entries, but nonetheless none of this was technically approved by anyone, so it's gone.

As JLH and Trevayne have warned you---you are not to post any links to material for for players to download anything that hasn't been approved by JLH.

If you do, I suggest that you put a warning up to players on the posted link and on the site.

There is a link to the exe file which has been compiled and uploaded to the official nightmist web server. Sure, if you don't want to download 3rd party software I don't blame you. Unfortunately there have been some idiots in the past who have done a so-called "Helper" and ripped people off, I was aware of this before I even started the project and I knew some people would be against it. Unfortunately there's no way for me to prove that it's 100% safe without releasing the source to the public, but that would just mean more newbies can compile their own version with harmful material.

I know the rules Gaddy...

Also, the files which are used to get information on the helper are plain text files. You can't put viruses in plain text files, so people should have the right to share them on the forum.

I simply said that you should mention anytime the files have not been looked over by JLH.
Those who choose to trust you can do so, and those who do not can figure out what equipment to use on their own. But they have a right to know if it has been approved or not.

I think it is good of you to do all the work in setting up a program to help people out, and I hope it is as useful as some in the past have been---where maps were integrated into the files and monster xpd, etc.
Those kind of things honestly help to balance out the power in Nightmist by letting new players know as much as possible, and even updates some of us less active older nublets.
So please don't feel like I'm against you in the case; I just want people to have fair warning.

Oh yeah, of course. There's only so much I can do though really :)

Yeah, the current version mainly contains information you'd find through the library and stuff. The reason for this is because I wanted to make sure the database is working properly. The next few updates (Once I get the net back at home) will contain more information which isn't commonly found, or atleast not as easy as typing a command or 2 in game.

So please don't feel like I'm against you in the case; I just want people to have fair warning.

No no, I didn't mean for my reply to sound as though I thought you were making false implications, it's just frustrating for me because I know there's a good amount of players who won't use the software due to keyloggers and viruses being sent out in the form of a "Helper".

To be honest, I don't even know how to add viruses or keyloggers into VB. I do know that keyloggers can be tracked by firewalls like Sygate and Zone Alarm. For a keylogger to work you must be sending data from your PC to somebody elses, and Zone Alarm will notify you if such connections are being attempted.

Anybody been using this peice of software? I've not had time to do anything with it since I moved out. shigogouhou has done some weapons and armor but I've not got round to adding the packages to the website. He also gave me a good idea to add to the software, but I don't wanna work on it if nobody is using it.

The idea of the software is for veteran players to be able to have somewhere to share their knowledge, so that both veteran and newbies can use it. This way we can all work together to produce it rather than just myself.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, I don't have a lot of time so if this idea isn't working I can scrap it and start something new.
