named Libbz2.dll. Okay fine, so I tell it to remove the obvious data miner and guess what, Nightmist now doesnt function w/o re installing. What is up with this?
Sure, I remember 5 years ago and the pop ups, but this goes further than that, and if it's for 'our protection' y wasn't there a post explaining it.
I'm sure I and many others don't want our computers slowed down by a data miner, so what can I do?

Maybe its actually needed by nightmist to run correctly?
I hope your right, but why the name spyware sherriff? Thats really odd, but heh, have trusted JLH 5 years, so I'm waitin for an official reply. I promise if this was any other game though, it'd already be uninstalled.

Also I scanned that file with my Nortan Anti-virus, nothing wrong with it.
Me too, its not a virus. So even if it was a data miner, if it doesn't threaten the system will it come up as a bad thing? I don't think so.
I hate even postin this, but after everything lately I guess I could be a lil paranoid.

That is a system file you need them to run Nightmist without getting runtime errors as such.

Ok that is great and good, but what about it being detected as a data miner ? I've scanned NM a million times and nothing, so this concerns me.

Just my guess, though!

To my best judgement, I'm guessing that 'Spyware Sheriff' blocks spyware from getting into NM. And as Tru said, needed for run-time errors and such.
Just my guess, though!
That does make sense, I'm sure it's something like that, but from 1 who scours there computer weekly to make sure I can get around the internet at a semi ok speed, just like to know for sure.

it is an open source dll and is safe, you can even download the source code for it from somewhere and compile it yourself to check.

libbz2.dll is a compression dll used to compress/decompress data to and from the nightmist server to save on my internet bandwidth.

Thank you I am soo relieved, now I'm thinkin another bug might have figured out how to use your program to compress data, this Spyware Sheriff program. I''m researching this today so I can email the makers with my utter displeasure for there tactics.
As always, your the 'bomb' JLH. Thank you for responding to e mail in hours to. Helps when a player is wiggin, lol.

Dear Sirs,
Your program was hostile as it downloaded itself from some site I've been to without my permission. As if that wasn't enough it attached itself to a game I play, and was using a dll file from the game which made the game appear to be a data miner, when it was your own program that was mining data.
Never mind the embarrasment that was caused when I went online and accused the game maker, in front of thousands of distributing your program unknowing, to find out he didn't!
Going about business this way just shows people how unreputable you must be, so may I suggest you take a serious look at your marketing tactics.

This came up on my Ad-Aware scan as well, but I noticed that it was inside the Nightmist folder, and having never actually displayed any of the symptoms accredited to the SpywareSheriff program, I am assuming that the file is simply being flagged as being known to be used by another program for malicious purposes.
Of course, if you're suddenly being prompted to download SpywareSheriff and your browser is being hijacked, then maybe you can have a moan.

It is probably a case of mistaken identity.

Good call, but at the time I noticed it, I had also noticed a few times recently that hours after logging, Nightmist was still running as a process. =)
