Okay, I have the lovely Google pop up blocker, and I'm getting pop ups for unknown reasons. I ran adware and all that... deleted the stuff I found... yet I'm still getting them.

Also, often times I go to close my browser and any other programs I seem to be running and it's as if they somewhat freeze onto my desktop. When I hit ctrl , alt & delete.. those programs I closed aren't running.

So, I was wondering if one of you lovely computer knowledged people could help or give me some sort of tips, before I go insaneee.. o.o

try some more spyware programs such as Spybot - Search & Destroy. Find it at http://www.download.com

Some adware programs do not show up in the Task Manager (the dialog that appears when you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete) - I had one of those once... turned out to be a VB script in the Startup folder.

Delete all your temp files, (right click the big blue E internet explorer icon, goto properties, delete all files in the center section) then open ad-aware and check for updates.. after installing the pack, run ad-aware.

I already ran that. I also ran spy/adware... and got rid of all that was found. The pops seem to keep haunting me still.

They come up normally, I was getting them.. when I didn't have a browser or anything open, guessing that stopped. I'm just getting them normally... as far as I know.

Whats new in your ad/remove programs? I get these porn dialers that self install w/o me knowing, and a few other things that cause pop-ups. Then there is your IE home page, is that the page u specified or is it changed?

Pop-ups are really simple to figure out and stop, you just have to look in the right places, sooooo

gimme a list of what you've checked and we can round it down

For my ad/spyware? I uh, deleted all that stuff? Someone gave me a hijack program, don't know if it'd work or not.

Just like... switch web browsers to mozilla, it's faster and less buggy.

Uhm, I happen to like I.E. I never had the problem before.

Okay.. so..

I ran... Norton, Adware, Spybot, Hijackthis thing... and deleted the bad stuff. I even had someone give me another solution. Guess what? It didn't work. Stupid things are so ubelievably annoying.. not to mention the stupid computer freezing.

There's a bunch of pop-up stuff rooted pretty deep in your registry. I don't know of any programs that can get rid of that stuff. Also, you aren't deleting everything. Not the important things anyways.

That's manual labor.

It's especially hard to get rid of because I am assuming you have winXP or ME or some new one.

Opera and Mozilla are good browsers. Using one of those will probably take care of your problems.

Why is IE better? It's bulkier, slower, uglier, and has a pathetic name.

Mozilla is faster, prettier (you can change skins!), and has a cool name!

The only downside is that most people use IE, and there are some websites that require it,

but hey! You don't just join TA because most characters are in it! (Actually that's just what I did.)

Yeah I had this bish dialer that hid in 2 places and when you removed 1 the other refreshed it, McAfee, Noton, Adaware etc all useless. It was pretty harmless, just kept changing my homepage on me to easy-search.biz but annoyed the hell out of me. I eventually trapped it by unplugging my bband, dragging the files together and deleting them together.

I'm so paranoid now i've my firewall (blackIce) set at its highest so even IE has to ask for permission to connect.

Damn porn sites! :P

delete all the useless folders, uninstall programs, then clear all your temp files, and your cache', finally update and run ad-aware... then go back and check your work for leftovers, and repeat. Within about 30 minutes to 1 hr (maybe more if you've never done this) your pc is clean and running a tad faster.

Edit: lower Black Ice, firewalls are useless against hackers that really want to get in, and anything you allow in (even if you don't know they are there)

Let me guess, you told her to format?
Well that probably the simplest option.

Erm no, and it's also not the simplest option...pop ups are easy to get rid of without use of any spy blaster or whatever.
