As many agree with me, I believe there should be a 1 character limit. (not alt as stotic said :))

It's impossible to stop people from making multiple accounts/characters, so this would end up being identical to the discussed 1-alt limit.
If you build it, they will come.

You think it's fun now? You should have played when nobody used alts. THAT was fun. THIS is ridiculous. Honestly, what kind of game forces you to use 14 characters at one time just to keep up?

exactly. If your not using atleast 6-7 characters you don't stand a chance. My computer can only handle 3.

You're making it sound imposible and blown out of proportion a little bit. You can handle yourself with 3, and 1 IS possible. Don't get me wrong, I do agree it's kinda poop with all the alts.

Nightmist is a highly-involved icon/text-based MUD (Multi User Dungeon). Create a fully-customizable character with distinctive strengths and weakness. Choose from one of nine classes, each one significantly influencing how you experience the game. Interact with players from around the world. Form allegiances and travel expansive regions, questing for riches, priceless artifacts, and most importantly, fame.

A Quote from the opening page of Nightmist. Something tells me Nightmist lost it's direction somewhere along the way. The game, as displayed in the introductory dialogue, was not intended to be played with alts

It's time for action, or at the very least, to change the introductory text... Along with getting rid of that stupid bat. :)

I don't support any type of alt limit. The game has developed in ways that force you to use multiple alts. There is no way people could really survive in the desert or jungle and such if they only had one crit. Don't even try to say people would work together more, it would simply cause many many fights over things.

I can handle myself alright on a party of 3, 4 is what i prefer though. Really, for the past month or two I've mostly been on the party of 12 I'd been using to kill bosses, i would never consider fighting on more than 5 crits, i dont think anyone can truely tell you they handle more than 7+ crits efficently enough to fight a decent party (that is w/o hit and runs, in which case going though 7+ crits could leave you vunerable to attacks from others..if you leave anything standing).

no limits, because we wouldn't want this game to turn into a role-playing game would we. :)

seriously though man, you want to play a game with a 1 character limit, i suggest you find those games here, because a character limit aint gunna happen, neither will an alt limit.

dude RPGs are awesome. I would love for nightmist to be a RPG...and you never know, an alt/character limit may be put in someday. As you can see, some of the staff agree it should be done to.

I am all for the one char (YES CHAR NOT CRIT CRIT IS JUST WIERD HONESTLY) limit, though either people would have to be self sufficient. More inventory would help with that or stackable items.

Nightmist has already flowed in a direction away from a singular char (i also think crit is odd), and i dont beleive anything can revive the old way of playing. i would love to see another game open though (ill be the main staffer and jlh can code it :) lol) where the world is a lot smaller and a 1 char limit was placed in motion, well atleast to be played at one time. it could be set up like how pacifists are right now, you try to log onto another char, and it says that your alreaqdy logged on one...anyways, i doubt that would happen, but would be great to see

i do too, maybe 1-3 alt would be cool, i usualy sit on my paci most of the time now anywayz, so the 1 alt limit wouldnt worry me in the least, 3 i think should be the max.. maybe that or 1 crit of each class.. would make a change seeing 1 cleric 1 zerk 1 paladin, 1 theif, 1 druid, 1 ranger and 1 fighter(dont think i mised anything there :S) rather than seeing 4zerkers, couple of rangers and a cleric to supe them up lol anyway back on topic i guess :)

There are pro's and con's to it, but in my opinion i reckon that it would be nice to have a 1 alt limit.

So your saying that the great Pandilex and JLH can't set up a "1 character per ISP" thing?

you are talking about 1 character at a time in other words, you roll a character, play it, and can't roll another one until you delete the first?
and no, there is no 100% guaranteed way to stop you rolling more than one.

I think they just mean play 1 at a time. You could have more than 1 character in your account, then you may play different roles as your mood might change, but only log on 1 at any given time, such as the way it is with paci's.

This version of nightmist isn't designed for one character per person, so altering it now would be futile.
If you build it, they will come.

Strengthen the classes (even if you don't make the 1 char MAKE THE MAGES DECENT) or make the monsters a little weaker and maybe 3 monsters per square instead of five it would work with little effort (well I have not seen the NM source so I do not know how scattered it is so it maybe that it would be hard as the mages piower is about 5 feet away from the fighter and the monsters HP would have to 1 at a time and not a external program that saves them in array easy to modify all at once etc).

I could see an alt limit of 3-5 working but one is rediculous. if you are for it, you should be playing a paci.. and reap the added benefits of being invincible.

The way nm is currently set up, and how it should be as far as I am concerned, more then one alt is neaded, as all classes have weakness's and must rely on others to cover the chinks in their armor so to speak. Druids, being the closest class to being self sufficiant.

So technically what your suggesting is you'd just prefer a game where there is absolutely no diversity amongst the players and their characters, with literally no specific strengths or weaknesses huh?
