There is no alternative and really i don't think there should be, not as in the way of a shield anyway. Thieves need to covert and be stealthy this would be imposible with a bulky shield

I didnt mean give thieves a shield or anything.
example:
Gold Bracers:
Armor base: 5, Can be worn by: thieves Description: Thin gold plates made to fit on the arms of the thief wearing them, this rare item offers protection without comprimising movement or stealth., Level needed to equip it: 25, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: 0, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0.

not a great example i know but thats the sort of thing i meant

I like that.. Or maybe bring it up from Steel, maybe Mithril Bracers (A drop, or a buy from a shop. I'd suggest Tirantek...)

Eg:

Mithril Bracers:
Armor base: 5, Can be worn by: thieves Description: This unique pair of bracers are not like that which you have seen before. They shine an eerie blue colour, and give off a splendid sparkle which can only be associated with truesilver. The bracers themselves are -from what you can tell- as light as they possibly could be, yet the mithril which was used to create these bracers is still strong, giving the wearer maximum agility, movement and speed., Level needed to equip it: 30, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: -1, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0.

Of course, the description can be changed. The -1 constitution is mainly because I was told this affects thieves coverting skills, so it would be like you have to pay a small price for having better armour.

Edit: I do realise that the majority of this was taken from the Mithril Claw's description, but if they are made of the same substance wouldn't they have the same properties?

thats the sort of thing i meant, but -1 con is definatly NOT a small price to pay. to get me to pay that it would have to be at least 10 armour cos i, as a thief trainer run about on jus thieves quite a bit n having -1 to con would really suck big time.

apart frm that tho its kool

What does - 1 con actually do ? Makes you get spotted easier when you run around covert or use stamina when you run around covert? If you think that having - 1 con on the item it won't affect your HP gains it won't lol..

I already know that having the -1 con doesnt affect hp, but you were right in saying that it affects getting spotted and how far you run covert (as far as im aware anyways)

Either way lets get back to the subject of that item.............

a few people have posted opinions but id like to hear from other people, at least now its clear what sort of item im talkin about anyway

To tell the truth, I don't see why thieves need more armor than they already have. I mean, RP-wise, thieves rarely fight much anyways, and would just be there to disarm traps, pickpocket, pick locks, and pick unaware enemies to backstab. They aren't, in my opinion, made to be hand to hand fighters, and therefore just use assassinate, which does huge damage with very little cost. But, Mythril bracers would make sense, since from what I know, Mythril is very lightweight. So if you want your shrouded-one-in-the-shadows to come out into the light and take on people un-coverted, the +5 armor would definently be worth it.

But I'm not a thief person, so just ignore me...

Just because you don't use thieves that much, doesn't make your opinion invalid. ;)

And yes, from what i've heard too Mithril is a lightweight material, so it wouldn't stop the thieves from doing their silent work, and assassinating people.

A nice idea, but sometimes you need to think outside the box, something other than mithril.

-1 con is too small, if a bigger ac item is needed it should be -3 at least.

Put it as a drop in an area that is not so commonly frequented (NOT harabec/tirantek, toooo many people have made fortunes in this game by whoring them areas.) Remember the best druid helmet in game is in a l25 max area? something similar for thieves would be good ;)

Why? We only have one mithril item ingame, and it would make some kind of sense, and I doubt you would find titanium items on people that do not even have firepower yet ;)

i agree with the lvl 25 area for thieves, but we have sdg(altho not many of us actually use it now) and then theres maloks. mayb a smaller lvl boss in maloks guild would save a new area.

but i think -3 on con for a thief is way to much i personally wouldnt bother with an item that takes 3 con away frm my thief

Lead your thief with a mage/druid and the -3 con has NO EFFECT at all...its not that big a deal at all.

I like the idea of new bracers for thieves and i totally agree with Shaun, a con decrease for the sake of +3 armor is unreal.

Comparison..

Fighter, Ranger, Paladin..
Spiked Shield - lvl 25, AV - 20

Druid, Cleric, Pacifist..
SoF/Feathered Shield - lvl 15-16, AV - 12

Thief..
Steel Bracers - lvl 2, AV - SUCKS!

Having a new item that can be equiped at 25+ or arch with no penalty would not be asking too much.

And you can debate the name of the item once its effects have been determined.

Obviously Mages only get Wooden Bracers AV 1 but if you have anything to say about that then post it in the Mage discussion forum.

As a Thief trainer, why would i want the hassle of training and buying mana for a Mage/Druid for the soul purpose of being a taxi? Besides when taking a trip to Malok's what good would my taxi be then?

Not to mention that equiping such item would take Halflings down to 15 con... OUCH!

Conclusion..

If the item was made with 5 AV and a -3 con penalty then in my opinion this item would not be used by anyone that had a keen intrest in thieves and would be aquired more for its rarity than anything else.

In maloks guild, ud have a normal dwarf thief to move around on, then your other thieves could wear -3's with no penalty.

Anywhere else, druid/mage (

This 'Anywhere else, druid/mage' talk is getting to me, you basically saying yourselves that a thief wearing this item would become dependant on an alt to move around covert.

Come on, be serious, -3 stats for +3 armor, add them together and thats what the item would be worth, a big fat 0.
