Hey everyone!

It's been about two years since I've played and wanted to know what all is new on the world of Nightmist.

Gaddy deleted these posts about another game.

There is not a Nightmist 2 or similar creation released (or expected). Posting other games here may confuse that issue and cause players to download content that is not related to or supported by Nightmist developers or staff.

Nightmist forums are not intended for advertising other games. The information has been allowed to remain in the Off Topic forum, but do not pull it into Nightmist - Game Discussion. Message individuals if you feel they may be interested in downloading your or others' content, but be sure to make it clear that it is not a Nightmist related development.

Amandil Axilya just gave you a Crystal Radiant.

Alexia just gave you a Dragon's Breath.

Those are two of the newest additions to Nightmist! Super cool high-end gear - crafted my first of each of them today. :-D

The Red Dragon is a new boss south of Resthaven for level 31+ fighters only. His Dragonbane drop is part of the Dragon's Breath crafting.

The other that I still haven't made is Har'oloth Velve.

That's an upgrade of Bone Skewer that is craftable without quest drops. So huge leveling of the playing field for folks who want a top-end thief, but it would take years to get enough for a thief party with strong vamp daggers (I think). It requires Assassin's Tear from one of the new grandmaster bosses detailed below. So Dagger of the Winds is still practical.

There is a ton of new content for high level parties:

Generally level 33+ needed to survive, but lower in some cases while higher in others. I've always done everything except Marshall of the Inquisition with at least one other person, and even Marshall kills some of my alts.

It starts with the Cauldron of Shadows south of Jahanna Desert - some rough beasts in there. It has it's own secrets and a few different ends depending on what all you have relative to keys. Cauldron Chieftain drops Stone Key, which lets you continue on to the Stone Dragon.

Eventually, Marshall of the Inquisition (in the Cauldron of Shadows) drops Inquisitor's Key and you're able to go to the Grande Inquisitor.

Grande Inquisitor is at the end of the Inquisitor's Tower in Blackthorn. Yep, Inquisitor's Tower is finally a playable area!

Grande Inquisitor drops warrants for the strongest bosses in-game. There are currently 3 that I know, and they're real rough.

Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs - Cuffs of the Djinn, Darkspinner's Cloak, Sentant Stone - one of the warrants lets you fight this undead boss in a secret passage in the Gnome Caves up Mount Sentant.

Woobie - Assassin's Tear - another warrant lets you into the level 33+ limited area on the path south of Arilin before the entrance to the desert. She's quick and has a range of attacks; I don't think anyone has managed to fight her solo successfully.

Shadow Drake - Shadow Brace - the last warrant that I know of lets you into another secret route within the Cauldron of Shadows; Shadow Drake is another undead boss, and it runs along a route that has traps. There is a short time before the drake escapes, and I think it's taken almost everyone at least a group of 3 to kill it before it escaped.

I'm not sure if all of this is within the past 2-years. Nor do I know the timeline of other 'new age' Nightmist stuff:

Dvengar Stronghold - with Dvengar Runemaster and Nyr, Sleeper Under the Mountain.

Kyranchian Sect - level 28 limited area west of the Grassy Meadow; it's fairly tough for my level 25 party

Paladin Area - I don't know much about Castle Darksparrow still...just never dove into figuring it all out, etc.

Platinum Coins - expanded beyond the 5 PC level 31-35 items to add 10 PC gear for level 36-38 of each class - specifics on the Wiki.

I'm sure there are things that I'm forgetting.

So.. uh.. Nightmist is finally dead, huh? Was a good run. Such a shame. The game client had so much potential. I guess MUD's are on their last leg these days.

You know the scene in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" where they're taking out their dead but one man insists he isn't dead?
Nightmist is kinda like that right now.

upgrade, update, upgrade, update.

i stopped playing a lot when there became nothing new ever.

minor updates don't do it...

every game you can constantly become more powerful but not NM (must have balance)

I say move on. allow strong upgrades, craftable quest items, obtainable rares more often.

NM stopped when staff and admins choose a limit, no expansion.

I really like to play nightmist, but it is not interesting right now.. let me make charisma rings or gain wisdom rings, a 0.5 vamp sword even if low damage.

I don't care if it was worth 200 million 7 years ago, its the ability to still gain such an item that would interest me again.

I have called for engine upgrades before, but we can't be hopeful.  I do my best with areas and equipment though.  Maybe some of these will convince you... all are obtainable!

Library info for Cuffs of the Djinn:
Armor base: 6, Can be worn by: clerics, druids, mages, paladins, pacifists, Description: These golden cuffs slip over your hands effortlessly, but then prove to be difficult to remove.  They glisten brilliantly in the light, and are clearly more durable than their construction might imply.  Beyond physical composition and beauty though, you discover your mind has much more clarity, with your insight and reflexes greatly improved over mere mortals., Level needed to equip it: 33, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 1, Dexterity modifier: 1, Constitution modifier: 0, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 1.

Library info for Dragon's Breath:
Base damage: 30, Can be used by: fighters, Description: Even outside of supernatural origins, flames are alive.  They move, they breathe, they grow, require nourishment, produce waste, react to their surroundings, and reproduce... but how the fire is able to dance over this blade is beyond your understanding, but it hungers, and will latch onto anything it comes in contact with with the ferocity of the legendary dragons.  Fire is truly a beautiful animal!, Level needed to equip it: 35, Magical: Yes, Vamparic: 0.15, Armor: 1, Strength modifier: 1, Intelligence modifier: 1, Dexterity modifier: 1, Constitution modifier: 1, Wisdom modifier: 1, Charisma modifier: 1, Poison chance: 0.15, Poison/30s damage: 15, Monster damage table: bandit:1.5|captain:1.5|dragon:1.5|drake:1.5|dvergar:1.5|elite:1.5|general:1.5|guard:1.5|knight:1.5|inquisitor:1.5|marauder:1.5|marshal:1.5|paladin:1.5|rogue:1.5|soldier:1.5|warlord:1.5|warrior:1.5|armor:2|hedge:2|hydra:2|maneater:2|mosquito:2|plant:2|portcullis:2|steel:2|tree:2|vine:2, Mana leech: .

Library info for Har'oloth Velve:
Base damage: 29, Can be used by: thieves, Description: Beyond the forges of the deep lies the taste of venom that goes beyond death.  It does not matter which deity an assassin follows so long as they provide a steady stream of victims for which the bodies may be turned to their cause.  Enveloping the Velg'larn with the essence of the place where light never falls, nothing of the surface world can resist the afterlife's appealing allure, and what it provides is but sweet victory to the Ilythiiri., Level needed to equip it: 35, Magical: Yes, Vamparic: 0.2, Armor: 0, Strength modifier: 0, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: 1, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0, Poison chance: 0.2, Poison/30s damage: 30, Monster damage table: drow:1.25|spider:1.25, Mana leech: .

Also:

Library info for Dragon Bracelet:
Armor base: 2, Can be worn by: fighters, paladins, Description: The magic rekindled, the dark bracelet glows with unnatural power that almost completely overwhelms you.  Should you be able to handle it though, not only is the protection it offers unparalleled, but so is the rage that courses through your body., Level needed to equip it: 33, Strength modifier: 1, Intelligence modifier: 0, Dexterity modifier: 0, Constitution modifier: 0, Wisdom modifier: 0, Charisma modifier: 0.

Baffles me why the server you can log 20 characters get the more powerful items. I don't really care for the reasoning either. Probably due to some kid who still lives with mummy and has to be reminded to go pee pee and shower.

Probably has something to do with the fact that the game was originally designed with multi-alts in mind, and the 1a server was hastily created with little to no back-end coding to balance gameplay for single players. Just a hunch.

But why are you mad, though?

Had to watch it. Hah. Well played, sir. That just about sums it up.

I vote JLH sell his code to Gaddy and Crane, or whoever is still helping the game. Or you guys should go and help those Ember Online guys who are still actively making a game.

Living with a mummy is probably dangerous and gross. Thinking the wrapped up skeleton is reminding you about hygiene practices is concerning.

Im very happy with the Updates on main server .... and to answer your question why main is gettint hese updates instead of 1a is simple... Nightmist is and always will be a better experience in multi then 1a period this game was designed for Multi-use not single the fact the 1a was even released was a fluck because Opal was on the back burner basicly 1a was emplented way to early basicly a CLONE of the original Code if 1a was the demise of the nm community with everything that was going wrong with 1A dont get me wrong 1a is a good experience but it should of been redesigned and not Cloned day of release.. 1a should of been a diffrent client all in its self Im happy for what NM staff and designer's have done.. and for JLH keeping it FREE2PLAY for sooo many years Always have fond memories of this game and the simple fact i keep playing is because its a great game overall on the Multi side... Granted we need server and client updates but whos going to fork over the cash to do so. maybe if there was donations to Initiate JLH to do some improvements mybe there will be Progress even if it takes a mass RESET like in 04 ....

Both Server's

Personally I Agree with Kakarott, Nightmist was originally intended for multi-use its always been the intent for Nightmist, 1-alt was a test to see if JLH and PAndilex could get the core of the game to function properly as a single user instance for the reveal of Opal Spheres back in the day, but things fell thru corruption amoung staff and numerous other issues arose and set the 3d Upgrade of Nightmist back a few years, then when 1-alt started receieving a larger number of players, and multi-alt started dieing out, they aborted the production of Opal Spheres, but 1-alt was never meant to stay around aslong as it did, but it did due to certain players whining about the removal of the services due to them "working so hard 30'ing toons". but other then that, there are still a few of us original Multi-players still lurking about, that take joy in running around killing things and taking bosses etc.

We won't know unless JLH and Pandilex outright tell us.  I think it was designed for multiple alts, but not to the extent seen today.  Until the release of Windows XP, you could generally only have 4 characters active at once.

Hi guys long time no see. Was talking to Vince on WoW recently and thought I'd check up on the ol forums!

Just FYI though, Nightmist was -not- intended to be the alt fest it became. You can look at the old forums for proof of that. Jurian was the one who introduced the concept of tons of alts and thus started the downward spiral. No one played more than one or two characters pre-reset, and the same was post-reset at first too.

Looking back now, JLH should have just killed the ability to use macros.

Anyways, cool to see some of you guys still play. I haven't actually played since 2005. Someday I'll come back when JLH or Pandilex find the pre-reset code and upload a pre reset server for nutss and giggles! Then again the chances of that happening are as slim as Blizzard adding a vanilla server.
