Maximum Dexterity and Constitution are more or less compulsory for any race and class - you might get away with it if you are rolling a Pacifist, but not anything else.

For a Thief, maximum Strength, Dexterity and Constitution are compulsory. Wisdom and Charisma are not overly necessary, but are helpful.

If it's your first crit, the stats you stated are fine. As you get to grips with the game, and understand what is happening. Then upgrade your character to one with overall better stats, or another race/class to suite your preference.

However, as a starting crit. That is fine.

My dwarf theif has 20 con and like, 10 wis, and it does fine. Just ask anyone who tries to PK me, I usually manage to run away like a wus before they kill me.
I haven't got any illusions about anything. Having said that, I still want to try to change things.

Crumbs... I never thought about that. Considering my first ever crit was a Human Paladin with 16 Constitution and 18 Dexterity...

Not everyone has been playing the game for X number of years, if they need help with someone to post on the forums. Chances are they are a new player looking for advice, and couldn't get any in game.

So just assume the people asking for help are newer players, sure give them advise as to what stats are required, and that 6 stats are the best. However, the last thing you want to do when your new to a game is roll for 6 days to get something remotely uselful to play, you just wanna log on and get started.

This is not my first crit, I play'd almost a year ago as Raidenaz, a Level 18/19 paladin. Kalypso personally gave me tons of help since day one, so I had a good edge on the game. I'm sure she remembers me, just this time I'm going for a new class (still an old fashion underdog though!)

Edit: Yeah Crane I can relate lol. My first was a Human Paladin (Got a screenshot of em'! ^_^) - He was.. 19 str, 18 int, 18 dex, 17 con, 18 wis, 19 char. I was so proud of him :P

Keep it, 1 off 5 stat is good. Dispite it being con. As said; For a first crit, that is nice.

Good luck with it :P

20 cons can get equal and sometimes better than 21 cons. So yeah, good roll.

My first crit was a 19/x/16/16/?/? human fighter, he hit alot, even though only 16 dex, his hp was about 222 at lvl 23, that's as high as I got him.
