Ok, here's my opinion, and on Nightmist there are alot of them. I think the "word" pwn is retarded. I always just thought alot of people screwed up the word own, but then this one kid kept using it. The word bothers me alot, and it seems like only really strong clan armies/pkers use it. What do you think?

i think it's ok. i'm sort of intrigued with how certain cultures branch off and what drives them to that point. in the case of pwn, yeah it came from a typo, but it's part of 1337 which is original in that it doesn't make any sense. it's like the antithesis of esperanto. some people tend to think it's 1337 to use any character other than the original character, but that's not the case. it's also an aesthetic language, which is why X0r is there, and you'd be 1337 to say 'dognapot pwned j00' but you'd be a dumbass to say |)061|\|4P0+ pw|\|3|) j00!!11'. you get it? it's an extension of smartass teenage egotism, which goes a long way to explain why a typo would become a staple of meaningless victories. pwned.

I had an argument with someone once whether pwn was from a typo or whether it was player owning. I'd say it came from a typo because to me 'player owned' sounds stupid. You don't say 'I monster owned that small snake!'

'Pwn' is just one of a million things that slightly annoy me online, along with people using '<3' to express fondness for something, people that use ellipsis in place of any kind of sentence structure, and a few select random smiley's (like n.n) for no particular reason. I tend to just try to ignore them though, the only thing which really annoys me to the point where I'd skip the entire post is the ellipsis thing.
