I have an idea - Go learn something in an English class, like.. Spelling. And then try posting again.

You can't say school's rubbish until you've learnt everything they have to teach (which I will admit, is very little).

Learning through absorbtion?

Your supposed to at least pick up some of the grammatical abilities, and vocab from those books your reading... At least thats what I thought they always did that for.

I'm guessing you're talking about highschool, then you're right, it is rubbish. At least the things they ask of you to learn, you won't remember most of it and you can probably do it all in one year if you were allowed too.

But that isn't the point of it, you'll learn how to work together, how to plan, how to develope yourself. They won't teach you anything that you can get a job with, unless you're dreaming of a job at Wall Mart. It forms your working attitude for college.

p.s. My teachers keep telling me this, they told me this while i was still at highschool and now when im at uni...i don't know if i translated it well tho.

From the window of one building, Sam finds the angel of elevation of the top of a second building 41 degrees and the angel of depression of the bottom is 54 degrees. The buildings are 56 metres apart. Find, to the nearest metre,

a) the height of the second building
:) the height Sam is above the ground

...Wouldn't you agree that we all have a little Sam in us?

Geometry is used in architechture, as well as some physics as well. So really, its very important.

I dont think school is rubbish, I think the people teaching it could use work though... Teachers dont even know what they are talking about 90% of the time.

Only if you're planning to do work involving architechture and physics... otherwise it won't be of much use in that respect.

Schools ok... I always dread going back after weekends (not anymore though :)) because it's so boring, but when I get there I just talk to my friends/do a bit of work and it's fine... the hour lessons go by pretty quickly (exept Chinese... that's a pregnant dog)

Just wait until you finished both school and a higher level of education and work 9 to 5 supporting your family. Looking back school looks like a nice treat that makes me want to turn back time and do it all over again.

The only thing i miss about going to a normal skool is being able to prove me teachers wrong. Other than that it just annoyed me, we learned things over and over again to keep it fresh, got like one new subject or topic each year, and putting up with people was just terrible. They would sit while the lecture was going on, and yap about their dates for homecoming, music, going to the mall after skool, so and so cheating on brad ect. ITS JUST A DAYCARE FOR LITTLE PRATS. I dont think anyone learns anything until college, as long as you can read and have proper grammar and can add things... you can live. :)

School is only 'rubbish' to those people who wont apply themselves to it. I've seen it many times. It's mainly rubbish (at least in my high school experience) to those whose life priorities include 1) partying 2) drinking/drugs 3) sex. Why do you need education if you have these? Right? Oh wait, minimum wage can set me up for life. :)

Given, yes, some courses are a bit useless. I took an AP Calculus class, which is reasonable for my chosen major, but for someone who is majoring in say, Musical Education or something, they wont need any form of Calculus. But, it's always good to broaden your horizons. Just because something isn't important to your life, sometimes its just nice to educate yourself more. Why do colleges force you to take General Education courses? I'm a Computer Science major and I am going to be taking either an Acting or Dancing course. How will that help me? It won't, but it'll be something different to learn about.

Maybe my viewpoints are a bit obscured because I've always tried my hardest to excel and never been involved in drugs/alcohol. I've worked hard to keep grades up and such and yes, I have been ridiculed by my friends for doing so. Education is important. Though not all aspects of high school are going to be priceless... some of it is just interesting.

One of the only reasons that I can think of that 'school is rubbish' is because of all of the traditional high school drama. That is rubbish.

I'm very thankful that my high school experience is over in 12 more days though. :)

I've had enough of high school simply because of the students, and the teachers. I'm fascinated by the learning to be done, and I find the learning very fun to do. I just wish they could cut the teachers out if you ask for it. My school has refused to give me homeschooling, or even a self directed course line.

So what do I do? I read... LOTS. Almost 90% of what I have learned is from me just looking around at interesting stuff, and ending up reading up on the subject later.

Teachers are far too occupied with telling you how hard everything is going to be to acctually give you a worthwhile time at school. I personally am tired of that kind of atmosphere, Especially one that forces you into very uncomfortable, and sometimes HOSTILE circumstances.

Although, I know a large amount of people dont have the ability to.... absorb knowledge as I do, and actually need the current education system. I on the other hand have proved to my teachers many a time that I can prepare myself far better for their tests, and exams than they can.

So, IMHO or in my experience. School is rubbish beyond the minor social skills, and INTRODUCTIONS to things you can learn. To me that is. Im sure its different for everyone.

sometimes school seems to be a place where you dont go learning but to show that you have learned ...

seems stupid cuz it would save time and money if we could all just study at home and do the tests at school, lets say a once in half a year there would be a test week where you can prove that you have learned the subject whatever it may be ...

it would remove all those stupid class behaving valuations which really doesnt give any idea how much a student really know about the learnt thing ...

it only shows ( atleast for my part ) how bored you are when you think its more interesting at drawing pretty girls onto your desk than learning the same thing week after week cuz lil billyjoebob doesnt really keep up with all of us.

That is another thing i hated about skool, was how violent it could be. A teacher could put down a certain student and all hell would break loose (screaming, objects being thrown ect.).

Another thing was that last year before i dropped out the skool had been trying something new they called the 'one lunch' where everyone would have lunch at the same time, all grades would be let out and put back into class at the same time and if they chose not to have lunch they could roam around the skool. The problem with this was that little boys trying to prove themselves would get together in the hallways and throw punches and get into fights, it got so bad they had to enforce a 'no tolerance' policy, meaning anyone caught fighting would be given a 2 week suspension, and anyone caught running from watching a fight would be given a 1 week suspension. And of course the little nutss did'nt give a moose and did it anyway because the so called 'adults' who were responsible for us did not think to take everyone bak to their own seperate lunch periods.

Now aside from that, at least once a month we would have bomb scares because some little cabbage has to call in or email that he planned to blow up our skool, i would be thankful for it during a test, but other than that it was just ANNOYING to have to the entire skool go outside and sit in the stadium for 2 hours while they searched everything.

And last but not least, searches. Ok, i can understand they want to be safe and everything, but having people go through my locker is just.. invasion. The only thing they ever found by going through our bookbags was pot, and some stupid idiots carrying knives. The only thing they ever found that could have prevented something was a gun, and it was'nt even loaded so give me a mooseing break. Its just annoying to have to put up with the stupid, annoying people that you have to deal with in a public atmosphere, and even worse when you dont hardly learn anything.

Its not because we dont apply ourselves i mean hell, i was in all honors classes and took a senior course, but they dont really teach you anything you will remember, most of the time they just give you random things to do and very few teachers are ever prepared.

Do you know all these people? Just wondering, because you may be telling people who work harder then you, to work a 9 to 5 job. When i was in school, our school day was 8 and a half hours long, then i would work 4pm-10pm during the week and 5pm-1am on the weekend. Just because people are in school, doesn't mean they have it easy.

(everyone else)
School, although I am a highschool drop-out, is a very important thing. It teaches you grammar, how to talk correctly, foreign languages (some of us use them), morals, how to get along with people, that we have to dress a certain way in the world, ect. School isn't about knowing how the British yelled kazaa when marching into battle, or that x+y=10 x*x+4=20 equals four, even such things as or rules and sectioned classes have an underlining meaning to them. School is set up to help us get ready for work, it use to be set up for us to learn, but we need to know, we learn when we need to. Our society isn't built around knowledge, instead it's built around money, so schools have focused more around the discipline area so we are ready for the work place. you may or may not see that right now, but later on you will.
