I'm an old NM player, been playing since shortly after the very first reset, but alas i left for about 9 mos and only recently came back. I was just wondering whatever happened with the race bonuses. From what i remember it used to be:

Human = +5 cheaper attribute cost
Elf = +5 str bonus in forest
dwarf = +5 str underground
halfling= +5 AC
halfelf = +2 1/2 cheeper attribute cost
gnome = I cant remember
halforc= i dont remmember

but since the attribute points were scraped as an idea i was wondering if the bonuses were ever changed or balanced out? Anyone have an answer?

Elves get +5% damage in forests.
Dwarves get +5% damage underground.
Gnomes have a higher magical resistance % (the number escapes me, though).

I dont know about half-orcs, though.

Human = 5% cheaper attribute cost
Elf = +5% damage in forest
dwarf = +5% damage underground
halfling= +7 AC
halfelf = +2 1/2% cheeper attribute cost +2.5% damage in forests
gnome = +5% resist -5% fizzle
halforc= +5 AC

thank you for clearing that up ice_cold, so that just leaves one more question. Since they had scrapped the attribute point system(far as i know) are they going to redo the race bonuses to compensate for humans and halfelfs not getting anything? or has this already been done?

Humans don't get a racial bonus (besides being able to use any class). I think that's unfair.

Gaddy started a thread regarding this issue. (Can't find it, though)

I also disagree with Half-Orcs' racial bonus. It shouldn't be a "toned down" version of the Halflings' bonus. I think it should be something unique that befits the race.

I started a poll in the main forum to see the publics consensus towards the current race bonuses in order to answer oracle's question, http://www.nightmist...?showtopic=3492 and so far out of the 8 votes 6 do not feel the race bonuses are balanced and 2 feel they are balanced, also everypost so far in that topic has supported the need for balancing in the race bonus area. At the current trend in public opinion, there will be large support for the re-balancing of the races.
