I just want my say. Having recently posted my seraphic staff, an item which was obtained by donating money, for sale. Pandilex said:

"I decided it would be no big deal. If people pay insane amounts of money for 6 stats, which are obtained randomly (even unfairly you might say, if a person rolls for 5 minutes and gets a six-stat, whereas another person might roll for months and never get one), I don't see any real big problem. I doubt it would really disrupt the game's economy anymore than ice cube dropped into a swimming pool."

Jlh then posted on the thread:
"as sneaky rightly says, real life money influences prices of items in game, therefore it can't be sold."

I've just donated further money for custom pics, for when i have my 3 mains sorted but which are currently not being used. Based upon Tevlok's post "Custom Pic" i could now sell these two customs for around 1mill each.

I respect that Jlh and all the staff, work to great lenghts to provide nm for free. But isn't this two occasions where the same treatment should be applied. I donated and can sell pics at a large profit, yet i cant donate and sell an item at a profit. What is going to be done to sort this out?

Personally, I do not think people should be allowed to sell custom items or custom-pictured crits that were acquired via donating, because it is, in a way, exchanging real gold for Nightmist gold (you know how people like to pay ridiculous amounts of gold to buy something that has a different name or picture to normal).

I know I should not talk bad of the staff, but they appear to be a bit divided over the subject - I feel they do need to agree on a common policy.

I don't really think there's a reason that the custom item shouldn't be sellable.
There are two custom items in game. (White Crane Gauntlets and Seraphic Staff)

People have been selling custom pics for ages now, so why wouldn't these items be sellable?

Muchless, how much of a difference does it really make?
...does it really matter that much to anyone or are people just whining because they found something to whine about, yet again?
I'd say people are just complaining over nothing.

Though, I think it'd be a good idea for JLH/Pandi to offer customizing items for a price a bit higher than custom pics.
I bet we'd see how many people really think that buying the items and selling them in game is really profitable to them (real money for NM gold that is)....I honestly don't think anyone would go into it with that idea. No one did with custom pics, correct?

Neither should be allowed to be sold. I think I expressed my opinion in the other thread.

It's exactly like trading Real-Life money for nightmist gold. I pay $30 or whatever it is to get a custom picture, I come on nightmist and sell it for 1 million gold. I give you a custom picture, you give me 1 million gold. Why don't people skip the middle man; I'll give you $30 and you give me the gold.

I'd say new rule stating that neither can be sold but ones that already did stay sold.

I think that custom pictures shouldn't be able to be sold because they are obtained through paying the staff (donating). The with the custom items they should be able to be sold because they were a prize for the top 2 in a contest for who donated the most. Not being about to sell them is like saying you can't sell thi rubber bow because you won it in a mosh or for getting a triva question right....

You wouldn't happen to have a custom pic do you?

If having real-life money shouldn't be an option to get rich ingame then having friends shouldn't be one either. Cause loads of people have became rich ingame due to having friends.

Only difference is one is a financiel mean the other is a social one...different aproach, same result.

Edit: I love it how I always seem to make sense when im drunk, btw whats with the avatar with the leg? If thats you..no guy cares about a nice leg they care about the pot of gold at the end of it. And i'm not talking about the shoe.

u guys juss gotta remember the difference here, its nm and its rl, nm gold for a nm item is fine, rl money for nm things is wrong, pics were always able to be sold, but the staff shouldnt be sold... if it was allowed, everyone woulda donated alot of money for a item name and be able to get rich off it, its not happenin.... so case closed

One thing you gotta remember is the same pics that we are able to sell or have been able to sell in the past were obtained the same way that staff was. Through donations.

Just incase people are wondering, donating does not get you any preferential treatment or special items that will unbalance the game in any way.

Donations over £30 ($60, E50) can get you any non-staff picture from the game graphics folder (1000.jpg and above).
Donations over about £100 can get you a unique picture from the graphics folder that no-one would be able to use too.
Custom pictures are not allowed.

All donations are gratefully recieved and will be put forward to help Nightmist grow in the best way possible.
Nightmist is entirely funded by JLH and costs about £1100 ($2000) every year for internet+power with hardware upgrades on top of that as needed
For information on how to donate read below.

That is why there was such a negative response by those who were and are unable to donate to the game.

Because sales have been made in the past with pictures obtained with donations I feel that this item along with the pics should still be able to be sold.

I can see taking a stance saying things paid for with real money cannot be sold in game, but make it all or nothing---in my opinion.

And for everyone who has tried to say it- NO ONE HAS MADE A LARGE SUM OF GOLD IN NIGHTMIST THROUGH SELLING CUSTOM PICS. No one at all. All of the names up in the top 10 either made the gold, had it handed to them, or stole it...they didn't pay for it with real money.
I just really think people should stop trying to use that whole "they can pay money for NM gold idea"...no one has, I don't think people will, and even then, they don't control the overall result.

Honestly you're all bickering about something which is a waste of time. I personally don't mind people selling custom items -obtained by donating- for gold.

You do get a lot of games that have certain priveledges if you donate, a gold membership or whatever the case might be. Look at World of Warcraft - Pay $$$ for in-game golds. It's actually becoming a business, one which is flourishing.

I don't think real money should be traded within the game including selling anything for Nightmist gold you've donated to get in the first place.

It does have the potential to create unbalance within the game if someone was to donate high amounts of money. It does mean that the person with the most cash irl to throw around can rocket up the ranks to be as good as the people who have worked so hard to get what they have on the game.

I know people are donating to get this, but the fact they then sell the item/picture on to someone else who hasn't donated is kinda cheating JLH in a way too. If you want this privilege then you donate to get it and help JLH with the funding as the whole objective was with allowing custom pics.

I think as long as the irl money is donated directly to JLH for the game, it should be fine. JLH is the one that gives out the pics and item names, and unless he tells the person it shouldn't be sold, as they are getting it, they should be able to sell.

I've donated 2 or 3 times, and asked for nothing in return, no pics, items, staff comment or whatever else some people are after.. there are people who just wish to help out, altho they may be hard to find.
