Since mages don't seem to benifit much from Int, do you think it is a good idea to choose a class with low int ( such as Half-Orc  ;) ) for a mage ?

Mages are all about int, its what determines their damage. Besides, Half-Orcs can't be mages :P. Your best bet for a mage would be Gnome or Elf.

Yeah but I heard that +10 to int only gives + 5 to damage with spells or something similar, it doesn't sound too good now does it ?

mages need some strength, lots of intel, dex, con and wisdom.

Gnome (perfect stat) [17] 21 20 18 19 [18]

Elf (perfect stat) [18] 21 19 18 20 [21]

if you want more mana and want to hit for more, go with elves. Gnomes have a +5 resistance to the spells of others just by being gnome.
So, if you want more dex and more protection from spells, go with Gnomes. Humans just have +1 con, they're somewhat good but nothing to pay 100k for. :/

Elf in my opinion is the best. Dex modifiers aren't that difficult to acquire, yet there are no items which boost your mp. Plus i'm fairly sure wisdom is used alongside intelligence in determining spell strength.

according to what jlh once said (if i remember correct) only int determines how hard amges hit. wis is used to determine how much mp they get.

i prefer gnomes cuz they got a 5% (or something like that) bigger chance to resist magic attacks and stuff and maybe even have a 5% chance to fizzle less :D

They fizzle the same as an Elf with 21 int.

They have a 5% chance to initially resist a spell, but once cast, a gnome will be damaged more than a elf.

The only important base stats in my are wis and con. All others can be 'helped' by modifiers.

Go with elf for extra mp.

i think int should be added to those base stats cuz int determines how hard a mage hits.

Int is quite important. However it seems that 19 int and 21 Beam for about the same at level 30. Although the 21 int might have a slightly higher max dmg. The range of damage varys so much that it seems insignificant. Although it's always nice to have.

I was under the impression that int doesn't make too much of a diff on monsters but it makes a bigger diff when you fight players.

Gnome mages and Human mages both beam a round on a Bunny (Zero Wisdom).

The Gnome would beam for say 96(max damage), 93, 92, 94, 95. Which totals 470 total damage.

The Human then beams a Bunny for 94(max damage), 93, 94, 94, 93. Which totals 468 damage.

As you can see the Gnome has the higher max damage due to the higher intell. However the rounded figure of damage translates to very close damage.

gotta stick to gnomes...i had a Elf mage with best mp in game (398.) forgot its hp was like 225 i think and i dueled a master gnome with stats x 21 20 18 19 x 4 stat and my elf was x 21 19 18 20 x both 4 stats...and yah its kinda strange..lol  :-X

and it was Ryans mage...(Limit) and another ;x

Tolken has over 400 MP.

Edit: Would just like to add that with the new MP gains, Elf Mages can get a maximum of 445 MP.

I would say Elf since they can get sky-high with Wisdom and Intelligence. :D

I would go for gnome.. they have the same intelligence, one more dext but one less wisdom. There also better for combat: The 1 higher dext means they won't get hit as much (stacked with AoP that makes them pretty d**n good) also with the small magic resistance (Not sure on this) they take less damage from other mages.
