I have been posting on this board a bit, as have I all over the
rest of the forum about mages, and I am sure that some of
you wish I would just shut up, but I am quite frustrated right
now and need to say this before I go crazy.
I mean no offense to JLH and Pandilex as well as all of the
other staff in this game and to everyone else who has helped
to make this game how it is, but I am very disappointed with
how the mages turned out.
I was waiting till after the update to say this, all two frikin
months, just incase something changed, well, it seems
something did. They got worse.
Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s all luck, but the simple fact
that I do on average 45-50 damage with beam to a level 15
zerker with an 8 wisdom is all I can take. Not only has the
damage seamed to drop, but I have also been resisted more
as well.
I am sure that what I have said above is not very coherent
as it is more a statement of rage, but the simple fact that a
level 25 mage cant beat a level 28 ranger or a level 19 paly 1
on 1.
We train just as hard, no harder, than any other class, we
pay more to get through the levels and we run out of mana
after about 5 rounds, so why can’t we do more damage?!!!
Beam sucks; at 17 mana I do the same damage as a druid for
what, 5? 10? and about 3/4 the damage your cleric can heal
for in one shot at what, 5? 7? mana! Why bother?!
I don’t know, maybe none of you guys feel this way because
you have your other guys, your rangers and berserkers to run
around with, and that I don’t is nobody else’s fault, but why
suffer because mages suck?! If anyone that cares or has a
say in such, say something, please, be it that there will be
another update, a change to the mage, or that there wont be
so I can just give up now, say something!

I agree that mages are by far the worst class in NM right now. I was under the impression that a while ago the staff was going to try to even out all the classes but it hasn't worked. Maybe you aren't done or something but as the other classes got better, mages got worse...
As they are the hardest to level I would think they would be better than say a level 30 fighter at the same level, but no. A fighter will rip apart a mage right now, considering the fact that mages have crap hp, AoP doesn't do what it seems like it should do, and mages can't hit, are resisted, fizzle, or just do bottom of the line damage.
The fact that people even took the time to level a mage to thirty is a feat worthy of praise, but then to go and get raped by some level 15 berserker, or a level 20 ranger, is beyond me.
I apologize for the anger in this post, but waiting so long to actually see what would happen to mages, hopefully for the better, only to seem that they changed for the worse, has frustrated me.
There are some very excellent ideas in this forum for mages and ways to make them better, nice and set out for you, ready to go. And the staff probably hasn't even looked at them. What was the point of making these sections of the forum only to see that they are wasted, full of good ideas that will never see the eyes of the staff.

Mages are my favorite class, and this is makin me really angry that they are hardest class to train and at same time worst, they cant do a thing, i knew zerkers and pacis would be a sucky idea, but didnt know how sucky it could be, pacis somehow kill mages just because i clicked on them 2 times and zerkers.. I saw a lvl 17 zerker taking a lvl 29 mage in a duel... THIS SUCKS!! I agree that there are many great ideas how to improve mages on the forum, so why not use them?

And what s/he means is that hitting a Pacifist with a mage, by mistake, seems to do a hell of a lot more damage than if you hit any other character. Seem silly you can kill yourself on a Pacifist easier than you can kill anything else...

yup, it was a duel in arena, i know its strange, but maybe he had more resist then normally, just a question of luck, still 12 lvls lower crit should kill that higher crit even if extremly lucky.
