It's not THE armor that's wrong... it's the total AC.
The highest I got my ac up on a halfer is to 80 and that's with AOH BB 4 CR's etc etc
where the ranger has about 100 ac.
Dwarves get like 60-70 armor which is useless against zerkers.
Thieves have lower chance in moshes due to lower armor and no covert abillity.
With covert lower AC was justified but there is no Covert possibillity in Moshes so Thieves due to low AC have become obsolete people mostly use Zerks for huge amount of hp's and Rangers for high dmg and high AC =(

thieves aren't fighters, they don't need better armor, or more armor, but they should dodge more. it would only make sense that a class characterized by it's dextrous and acrobatic nature would be most identifiable for those characteristics.

Well the class relies on Dex for everything so why not to dodge and not the clothing they are wearing because it is only so possible to have armour you can move in as well as protects you. Thieves strike quickly from the shadows then run not stick around for a knife fight.
