Multiple nightmists running????

Today whilst i was training, i had a tremendous lag spike. I was curious where it came from so i pushed Ctrl+Alt+Del (i'm running windows XP btw) and i went to processes. There was 10+ Nightmist.exe's running, when i only had 2 running on my active desktop.
Reasons for this?
