I think so yes personally I'd rather have a human over half elf and elf over human . . . but for a half elf I dont see many alternative classes other than druid

If I owned it I would make it a cleric. Half-elfs can take advantage of the 20 char to be similar to human clerics but heal for slightly more. Not to mention he'd be very sexy if you opted to put boots of time on him. ;)

Another option would be to make it a mage. I've heard Eternyte say that +/- 1 to int doesn't really make a large difference with the dmg, so 20 int might not be too much of a sacrifice. The half-elf would have a +1 constitution advantage on elves and gnomes. I'm not sure if that would significantly increase hp.. I guess that's why I'd make it a cleric after all.
