rofl i tried casting grasping vines in the 'forest of souls' only to be answered with 'you are not in a forest' :/
I think there needs to be more grasping vines locations.. they are so much fun and its kinda dumb to confine all that fun in the large forest. lol. Either grasping vines needs to be enabled in the forest of souls or it shouldnt be called a forest  the contradictory line 'you are not in a forest' when i know good and well that i am.. just boggles me :S

Depends, we have no idea how much 'magic' it would need, so it might need soil and the spell to make it work. If thats the case, then it would need a forest.

Dead soil doesnt grow anything majickal or not, and since it is how do you put it a place for the undead, I don't think something lively like grasping vines would grow there.

i dont believe the forest of souls indicates that the ground is dead.. it indicates that 'souls' or undead if you will inhabit it.. but not necessarily that the ground is dead and what not.
and even if it isnt a very lively forest, it is still a forest of some sort.. and there is not reason the game should tell me that it is NOT a forest >.<!

Anyway... it says it's a forest of souls... never said a forest of trees... so generally when we think souls we think dead...

Hmm, Maybe... A druid can't cast it in this forest because its dead, so instead of saying that you need to cast it in a forest, it could tell you 'You cannot cast this here, the forest is dead.' Because Drac is right, it is a forest, just not a living one. So the message 'You must cast this in a forest' or whatever it said was kind of false really.. just because its a dead forest, doesn't mean it isn't at least the remnants of a forest still.
Just out of curiousity, but the 'Dying Woodland/Dead Woodland' in the Barrier Forest, if a druid with grasping vine capabilities were allowed in there, would they be able to cast it?

Lol Kat you may be right but, it's really not necessary for it to say 'You are not in a live forest' because we all get the idea when it says 'You are not in a forest'. There are much more important things to argue about then some silly message we don't even really pay much attention to.
