Title: Ugg
Post by Thenobleone on 01/26/04 at 01:37:06
Humm weird I can't login to my account.  I was on it this morning and it worked fine.  Now I try to login it says my password is wrong and there is no e-mail to recover it to.  The problem is my pass was right and there was a e-mail.  And even bigger problem Is noone knows my passoword and I don't share with anyone and the only program related to nm on my computer is NM helper prog by jurian and I know he did not put a keyloger in it.

OR staff don't think that hacking is possible anymore, so even if there is hacker (which there is and I know who it is) they wont believe and of us and wont do anything about it.

well just so you know if you see the crits Phantasmagoria, John_Mooney, and Boccob they are mine but it won't be me playing them as they are stolen.  My entire account was jacked and those three crits are gone and 217k.  Not only the stuff but the account as well is taken :'(

it is currently banned by me for suspicious rolling activity that the server's log checker thinks could be an autoroller, talk to me in game after 6pm GMT and we'll have a chat about it.

all this hacking talk gets no where....

For The Love Of God

if you think you are unhackable... then u have another thing coming... u can prevent people from hacking you that is to say those who hack using tools are no nothing hackers, I don't personly know crap about hacking so any I would do would be with those tools how ever there are people who can get past fire walls and routers and all that good stuff... now would some one with those skills hack nightmist? not likly there not gona bother with somthing that would get them nothing so those who would try to hack nm would more then likly be a nothing hacker who dosn't know how to truly "hack" and I dout JLH thinks he is "unhackable" people go to jail for hacking into systems that are highly sacured and are not supose to be easy to get into you think they spent millions of dollers on nm sacurity? The US goverment has to protect its systems including army navy and so on and they still get hacked.....

so to sum it up any thing is posable if you have the will, knowlage, and ablity to do so

All the military and government "hacks" have been because of employees incompetance (running viruses sent to them over email), and occasionally a bug in some software that people exploit (blaster worm). or even, a bug in a firewall product (cisco recently had a fault in a series of routers).
The only way someone could hack my server is if there was a bug in my router/firewall or a bug in windows iis, since i keep both up to date, i doubt i'll ever have a problem.

Don't be so sure of that.

If it is possible to hack -anyone- then why have these normal players been hacked? Surely if someone was gonna spend time hacking nightmist they would just go straight for the server rather than petty theft of a couple of accounts?

Not at all. If I 'hacked' someones account, they would whine about it on the forum. Everyone would think they were lying, and lost there account due to sharing, so he/she would be ignored.

Now, if I hacked the server, JLH would know that someone did hack it, and would probably know it was me, and obviously would punish me in some way.

But if you had control of the server you could stop him using it surely?
