Title: Ganglands
Post by Tienno on 01/20/04 at 11:49:51
Ok since this is slightly swaying away from the point of the post 'Killing Noobs' I thought id start a post here for suggestions as to what people think i should include in the idea. I will design the overall Area but i think as Nightmist people it should be an area designed by all so suggestions please

So far we have

1) many towns where pking is allowed
2) Random squares that only allow 1-3 characters on so when running during battles it will cause chaos
3) Bosses to make it worthwhile other than gangland fighting
4) Good exp and Cash available
5) Levels 28-30 only with specific areas within the area that only level 28's, 29's and 30's can access like the museum idea three floors and certain levels allowed in each area.

Any suggestions?

Would it possibly to give people EXP for PKing other people? If the area is disigned for PKing eachother, I think that'd be a nice little touch.

Some of the limited grids should be safe spots.. So like a race to a safe spot if you need.. May limit the number of characters people bring too, if they know they can only keep 3 safe at a time if they need to go AFK..

Like by Aet.. You can only pass two people through at once, why not a longer tunnel, that only 3 people can pass through at a time - Or would it be possible to limit each machine to three characters in the area? Would make fighting more fun if you have only a limited number of alts, rather than 10+ each.

Sorry.. I've finished my work and have two hours to waste till my meeting this afternoon with tutors... Soooo, nothing else to do.

That was what the idea of having at least one or two towns where pking isn't allowed.

Also when you run to those grid squares where only 3 max crits can go, no one else can come onto that square to pk you anyway so it more or less is a safe haven.

With the bosses/quests, the museum idea is really good, and also just have the same kind of things that are in the normal world, like the spider queen's cave and the like only designed much harder for 28 - 30 lvl crits.

Also maybe you could have a specialised dungeon for particular classes like the mansion. That is the only specialised dungeon I have heard of so far.

How about a dungeon where lvl 30 crits can go and they have to perform specific quest and once completed they can achieve an honoury title or something like that, something like your 'Grand Archmaster' or 'Sensei' like you stated in a previous topic

To expand on your tunnel idea, maybe make it so you can only have like 3 alts, not 3 crits, and if you meet someone going the other way neither can pass until they kill the other group Sort of like the sentry spiders.

all good ideas, i also like the ideas of if a gang go onto the same squarethey can all enter but none can leave til there are three left, kinda like a last man standing type thing. Hiding places and safe squares can be created again i like that by safety in numbers but make these squares all over the place in areas that it would take some mapping or some intelligence to remember where these places are.

If any staffer are available for comment id like to hear too on whether this idea is a good idea and if the thiungs stated are possible or impossible

Cheers

Sounds like a sweet idea. Having the chance to earn a title would be a nice drawing point.

I like the idea for the most part, but since the game is based on mideval times I don't think they had "gangs" back then so I think it should have a different name.

Ganglands was just used ask a descriptive title and the actual area will have town names and marshland names for surround areas, but im glad the idea is welcomed so far.

Just found some history on t'internet about a scottish medieval gang so they did exist.

Dumfries is the largest town in the Dumfries and Galloway Region and has consistently been voted the best place to live in the UK. This is partly due to good amenities but also to its mild climate and beautiful setting.

It is known as ‘Queen of the South’ and its inhabitants are called ‘Doonhamers’. The town is mainly built in the local red sandstone, which comes from Locharbriggs and which was used for many public and private buildings throughout Scotland, especially in Victorian Glasgow. Most recently it was the medium for a rather controversial art exhibit in Edinburgh which consisted of hundreds of bricks.

Most famous for its association with Robert Burns – he lived in the area from 1788 until he died, in the town, in 1796 – it therefore boasts Burns’ House, Burns’ Museum, Burns Street, Burns’ Mausoleum and, his regular pub, the old Globe Inn. If you’re lucky the landlord will take you upstairs and show you Burns’ bedroom and if it’s sunny you can sit outside and admire the mixture of old and new architecture.

Whitesands, on the banks of the River Nith with its wide area formerly used for cattle and horse markets, is now the bus arrival point and a good place to park. It still has an open air market at weekends. Few traces of the original medieval town remain – the town celebrated 800 years in 1986 – but Devorgilla’s Bridge, built in the 15th century, still spans the Nith.

The banks on the opposite, Maxwellton, side of the river are now laid out as public parks. Whitesands also has many ‘inns’ – some more salubrious than others – the names of which give a glimpse of the area’s history (Ye Olde Friars’ Vault; the Coach & Horses, etc). Although the times have long past when respectable doonhamers were terrorised by medieval gangs giving each other the ‘Lockerbie Lick’ with their ‘quhingers’ (short swords) Whitesands can still be a lively area after dark. It also, on occasions, is flooded by the river.

Lets make this a players area!

Hey, maybe we could even have a new monster: Scottish Marauder. Run around in gangs of three of four through the town and surroundings and attack everyone.

:P What happens when people start to get owned there? Then they complain and say the areana was a bad idea.. Like that Fighter dude above boars.. First week.. "GREAT IDEA!!!".. after that a bunch of people will say they hate it... This areana is just a short term solution... Unless you gain Xp from pking.. or there are some great monsters in there... thats about it =/

I disagree, I think a boss that actually goes and looks for you instead of people trying to find it would make it a lot funner.  Since there can only be 3 people on a square it could also bring a little strategy to finding and beating him.

So your saying he would wonder around like that Bird in that place at Rest Haven... Or would he actually follow you?

Elaborating on the safe-haven idea; everybody knows some dude would log a few characters on and send them in there just to hog up the spot, so that when some people try to run and get in there he can catch them unaware that they can't reach it...Maybe have a time limit on how long you can be in there.

Also I like the idea about wandering bosses. One idea could be a rogue type character that could run around stealing people's gold, and possibly items in there inventory...that may be a bit much out of the inventory, but if not, you could even have them sneak into a clan house possibly...hmmm...

Some of that could be devastating on characters or clans, so it may be toned down but the idea is pretty cool.

Why can't we have more things like the lightning dragon attacking arilin lol, that was cool.  We live in a land of dungeons and dragons yet all the monsters hide in caves, why don't these terrible mosters be evil for once in a while and go attack a few towns  ;D

Just as long as the attacks aren't permanent, Jahanna area was ruined...
