Due to the large userbase we have on the YaBB forum, which due to its "flat-file" structure with a seperate file for every user and thread, and hence about 40,000 files on my server, which is slow and inefficient, we have decided to move to a new database (mysql) driven php based forum based on invision power board. As a consequence, it is faster, has lots more features (but sadly no membermap atm) and puts less load on the server.
I debated converting all the users from the YaBB forum onto the new one, but then i realised that instead of writing a program to do all that for me, that it would be far easier to just ban anyone who attempts to register other people's names on the older forum. So please don't try, it just creates me work, and i'll only end up banning you. By not converting everyone, it also allows a fresh start and will allow us to see just how many people there are new signing up.
The YaBB forum will continue as is until the end of the month, where it will become read only, and will stay like that for a long time as it is a useful reference for both the users, in terms of old technical/help topics, and for the staff, for the staff map archives and development forums.
All game staff have full moderating control over the whole of the forum and the rules from the old forum still apply. This forum also offers the ability to merge topics together that are of similar content, so if you post something that has already been posted that you didn't read, it may get merged, forcing you to read it anyway! :)
The new forum is also skinable, in your profile, you can change the skin to a different style, after you have registered.

http://www.nightmist-online.co.uk/forum and '/forum' in game, will still go to the YaBB forum until the end of the month.
