Title: Dragon Isle
Post by newb on 05/01/03 at 20:07:01
Recently, a young fisherman from Tempo was out on his usual fishing rounds. He had not come back for several days and was presumed dead. Later that week, he floated home on a single, charred plank of wood. After several nights of high fever, he became well again. He had been mumbling about dragons and a forest, a thick forest with reptilian monsters surrounding him. In his recovered state, he told his story.

"As usual, I was going on my fishing route along the docks. I felt adventurous that day, so I decided to go out farther than usual. Unfortunately, I didn't see the obvious signs of swelling in the ocean, which drew me out further and further. Lost and hungry, I decided to sleep to pass the time. When I awoke, my ship had beached on a sandbar off a large island. I walked up the sandbar hoping to find a civilization of some sort and ask if they could help me get back home. I wandered along the shoreline for several hours, but found no signs of other people. I finally decided to venture into the thick forest, intimidating as it is. My search was in vain. As soon as I had entered the forest, I was assaulted by several creatures. I didn't get a good look at them, but I saw green...and scales...I ran out as quickly as I could to my ship. While I was running, I heard a low rumbling that seemed to come from the heart of the island. The ground shook and the forest trembled. Out of the leaves, rose a creature so monstrous, so huge, I was awestruck. I ran into my ship and set off as quickly as I could. The beast had spotted me though, and was approaching, wings spread, head extended. As it flew toward me, It opened its gaping mouth and fire came forth from it. My ship was decimated and I was knocked unconscious. I woke up later, clinging onto a broken piece of my ship, with arms pulling at me. I don't know how I escaped, but I will never go out on a boat again after this day."

The people recalled from legend and myth that this creature he faced was indeed a dragon. They made several voyages out to sea determined to find this island. The people hope that one day a group of brave adventurers will slay this beast before it decides to venture out and expand its territory.

This area would include a large island covered by a dense forest. Also, a large cave burrowed underneath the island. People will pay 5k for a ride to the island (per alt). The island will be accessible through the Docks of Tempo.

Shoreline
/grid 1: You are on the golden shoreline of the island.

/grid 2: You look around and see a thick wall of trees behind you, and a calm rhapsody of waves before you. This contradiction presents you with a false sense of security.

Newb pages you from The Shoreline (Dragon Isle): wooden nickels

Sandbar
/grid 1: You are on a sandbar. A straight and narrow path to the island lies before you.

/grid 2: The sandbar extends about a quarter mile off the island. Small waves wash over it, soaking your feet. Looking at the island, it doesn't seem so scary as the stories make it out to be.

Newb pages you from The Sandbar (Dragon Isle): pwned

Dense Forest
/grid 1: You are surrounded by closely packed trees and shrubs. Eyes peer at you from inside the growth.

/grid 2: The creepers here make it difficult to travel. There is little light here due to the vast number of trees that block out the sun. The growth here has been cleared, almost as if something had made a path.

Newb pages you from A Dense Forest (Dragon Isle): /flex

Nest
/grid 1: There is little here to see. Bones and waste are spread around.

/grid 2: The air here is gray and reeks of sulfur. There are several large piles of wilted plants that have been crushed into mats. A low rumbling sound comes from around the corner.

Newb pages you from A Nest (Dragon Isle): zombies!

Caves
/grid 1: You are in the caves deep beneath the island. A breeze flows through the caves.

/grid 2: You don't know where to start looking around. The cave is enormously large and high. It must be at least 30 feet high and 40 feet wide. Clearly this was made by an extremely large beast. Light from outside streams in illuminating the cave.

Newb pages you from The Caves (Dragon Isle): how are you gentlemen?

Dragon's Lair (pun not intended)
/grid 1: You are in the lair of the dragon. The golden walls blind you.

/grid 2: Looking closely at the walls, you see that they are made out of pure gold! You wonder how these walls could have been crafted all the way down here, but your thoughts are interrupted as you hear crashing sounds coming from farther down the cave.

Newb pages you from The Dragon's Lair (Caves): all your base are belong to us.

Dragon's Den
/grid 1: You are in the dragon's living space. The legendary creature stands before you, wings spread, and breathing fire.

/grid 2: The den glitters with gold. Thousands upon thousands of gold pieces lay here. The dragon must have collected this fortune from his victims over his long lifespan.

Newb pages you from The Dragon's Den (Caves): you have no chance to survive make your time...hahaha

Traps would include tripping over creepers and creatures clawing at your from inside the forest.

Monsters
Anacondas, Giant Lizards, Mutant Spiders (essentially Sand Spider), Dragon Hatchlings and Wyverns.

Boss - Dragon
HP - Lag Monster'ish
Attacks - Tail Whip, Breathe Fire, Bite, Stomp, Claw and an attack that would knock players off the square, like he flaps his wings creative massive gusts of air that blows a few crits back a square.
Non-stealable
Drop - 100k or a 2 handed sword of some sort. Perhaps a magical one at that.

Lump sums of gold are always good. I guess A Dragon's Heart Gem?

I don't know though, killing a legendary beast should warrant more than a big pile of gold. Amongst their hordes, they have vast amounts of magical items and equipment. Not to mention that Dragons themselves are supposedly magical.

Wow, I must say newb your descriptions and stories have improved so much since your last area. The story is really great, like I said in game "Dragon Isle" is sorta plain, but it's still very good.

Grid 2's need a little work, but overall the area looks fantastic, nice job!
