Title: Packet Loss
Post by Lavalamp And Seito on 01/18/04 at 15:55:38
just wondering if it is possible to know how much packet loss you are getting between the server and your connection? if so, would it be hard to code? and if not, could it be coded? i didnt know if to put this in suggestions or not, so i put it here because i guess its technical.. anyway JLH, any thoughts?

packet loss (unless very high lag) is automatically corrected by tcp/ip, udp based systems are not corrected.

Dunkler_Engel cast Depurate Undead on a Modern Art Sculpture. Killing it.

This here was my gfs crit in the museum
Suffering damaged a Modern Art Sculpture by healing it.

You cast Depurate Undead on a Modern Art Sculpture damaging by 106 points of damage.
You cast Depurate Undead on a Modern Art Sculpture damaging by 102 points of damage. Killing it.

Thats what i mean, i just guessed that it was packet loss, but whatever THAT is, it gets annoying sometimes when training more than one crit on one connection. Anyway, get back to me plz JLH.
thanks,

I think I know what you're talking about. Some times when I have several alts logged in at a time, one will miss what someone said in CC or something like that. It's annoying. But then again it rarely happens......

I've had that before too... Someone logged on and was talking to me, yet I couldn't see them, did a /who, and they were a pacifist, so they obviously weren't covert ;), they just hadn't loaded on my screen :-/

I think everyone experiences these problems of missing bits of text every now and then.. I just let it pass me by, although.. I'll never forget when my level 19 cleric killed a demonic soldier in 3hits (from healthy), dunno how the hell it did it, but the game froze half way, so I'm guessing the game read the packets wrong or something??

Anyways.. Back to work...

lag can cause it, nightmist itself does not have any packet loss checking, as i believe tcp/ip should be doing that for me. i will not be writing packet loss checking in however, i have a question though, if you are getting this mainly on peak time, then chances are the server is experiencing some lag with running out of internet bandwidth, you can check this with the tracert tool on the website.
