I've been having trouble logging onto nightmist since about 4 months ago. It started when i got banned by JLH. I thought it was for a month but after 4 months i still cant get on. It just says connecting and doesnt do anything more. Maybe its a problem with my computer, I dont know. I emailed JLH a while ago and tryed to fix it but he basicly said he cant unban me because he said he doesnt know how. I know there has to be some way i can connect to nightmist. I've tryed re-installing. rebooting my pc, even trying to get on nightmist on another computer in my house (im on a roadrunner network). Nothing works! I've tryed everything. Can someone please help me out here?

if telnet connected on both 110 and 20000, then you have a connection to the server, in which case, nightmist should work, if it doesn't, nightmst.exe could be banned from net access by a firewall.

the first time i tryed to connect, i typed telnet nm.nightmist.co.uk 110 (and 20000), and i got a connection. but the second time i tryed it said connection failed and wont connect anymore. then i tryed typing telnet www.nightmist.co.uk 110 and it connected. what does this mean?

110 can also be picked up by nortan antivirus, so if you have that, it is probably connecting to nortan.
20000 is not picked up by anything, turn alt port on, on the nightmist login window from the options menu

still no luck....and i dont have nortan or any other virus program. it has to be somthing from YOUR side because this has only been a problem RIGHT after you banned me. Anything else i can try?

if it says connecting..., then it is trying to connect to the server.
if when you click login it says "this pc is banned, you must have been pretty bad to deserve this", then your pc is banned and you can no longer play.
the fact that telnet brought up a blank screen on port 110 means it connected, but didn't on 20000.
if you were ip banned, you would get connecting... but the telnet wouldn't work on port 110

Ummm.....  yeah, I do remember how to read...   ::)

Edit:  One thing I thought of that may help you is to reset your cable modem.  I have Roadrunner and sometimes some ports get blocked off every now and again.  Shutting off your modem for a minute or two, then resetting any router you have, then restarting your computer can usually take care of those sorts of problems.

well i know its not a port problem because i could connect to the port through telnet. any other idea's? just reformat?

you would format (blank) your pc with the winxp cd, also, you can only connect on 1 of the nightmist ports, not the other, for which i don't know why.

No offense dude, but if you have to ask, you prolly shouldn't be reformatting your hd.  Reformatting will completely wipe your harddrive clean and start over.  You'll need your windows xp cd so you can reinstall it.  If you don't have all the drivers you need, there could be issues.

i had sane problem...what mirror do you use...i used 2 use 3...now 4and it works fine...so reinstall ALL the mirrors and put them in diff places...thne try them all in their order 1,2,3,4
then...if that dont work your only choice is 2 reformat...

all the mirrors are identical (the command "fc" in a dos prompt will confirm that) so only download it once.
if you can get on the internet, a format won't be needed, it'll just be firewall config.

Even if your not running a Firewall, and your running Windows XP, Windows XP could have the IFC activated. That could be preventing connection, possibly?

IFC as in the winxp firewall? that is defaultly turned off anyway, if it was on, it only prevents incoming things from the net, wouldn't stop nightmist working.

since you use windows xp, maybe you should talk to pandilex (who also uses windows xp) and therefore can use the remote control system to control your machine and he will be able to find out where the problem lies.

It appears he has some sort of firewall, so it seems highly unlikely I could connect.
