Title: Direction Pad Post by Everlast on 02/02/04 at 07:15:04 -more of a simple idea here- I am not sure what all the programming does, but it seems like if you can set macros to do certain things with F1-F12, the direction pad might be able to be set up as macros of that type. If so people could use it to do n, s, w, e and move around with them. -idea i do not think would be able to be programmed into the game, but would be sweet if it were possible- Here is what I was thinking what would be pretty sweet, but I do not know that it would work...i'll see how well i can type it up atm. If it could be set so that hitting <-- moved from one box the the next, while of course --> would go though the opposite way. Now, I thought about this, and do not know anything about programming, but i do not think it would work for the programming of nightmist to do that. It seems like if you could set that up it would be some type of complicated thing you'd have to do with your computer's understanding of what the key does. It would be nice if that worked cause you could move though crits that have macros set for something really easily and quickly. I am not sure that is too good though, might make people able to attack other people far too quickly, but w/e, it is just a suggestion of what would help me a whole lot when I am on a large party at bosses. Response to the ideas would be much appreciated, thanks. -Gaddy p.s. If any computer wizards knows what i would need to do on my comp to make the direction pad substitue to be like pressing alt+tab (not positive those are the keys i am thinking, i dont switch boxes like that, I simply click the next one) I'd apperciate a memo to gaddy in game or a pm on site, if it would take a lot of explanation that you would rather explain on AIM my sn on there is Gaddy101, i am not on it very often nowadays though, memoing me in game to get on AIM and contact (your screen name) might work better...thats just if someone is computer guro enough to really fk around with some settings lol... |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by alone on 02/02/04 at 09:20:17 The number would work fine, I believe. So long as you had Num lock on, otherwise it's set up to work differently (I think..?). Not too sure on the < > idea, as there are already much faster ways of attacking if need be, see what others think though. |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by sayadin on 02/02/04 at 16:39:21 I'm not sure what you're really trying to say, but I have an idea on the subject too. It might be the same as you are talking about. But anyways here I go. My idea what not to use the "n the press enter" but to use the direction keys on the key pad. If you notice there are arrows on the 8, 4, 6, and 2. It would be alot easier to press one button to move, rather than to keep pressing n+enter. Many people get frustrated when they are moving fast through an area and they screw up when they accidently miss the enter button and you see them typing "BubbleGum:ss" or something like and it screws up their sense of direction. So it would be good to put such command on the keypad to do easier access to move around. And many people are keyboard Illiterate. So this will be easy for them and Newbs. I know that some of you might say put it on macro in the f1-f12, but what if we are using those macros for something else. Well like in everything else I posted, this is just an suggestion. And thank you for your time in reading my post |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by CPG on 02/02/04 at 17:03:28 If you have played Revelation before, it's the same concept of traveling. You use the arrow keys, you know, up down left right, to move. Your press up, you go north. You press down, you go south. Page up/down would be a good choice for up and down. If you still aren't understanding the idea, then you are hopeless. hah |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by sayadin on 02/03/04 at 04:19:00 ahh yes. I understand but what about going Up or Down? it can't be just up(north) down(south) right(east) left(west). there are other areas where you have to go up and down. lol.. |

Then don't move that way, lol. I really would like to see arrow keys used in moving, I have suggested this before and they said its too much like revelation, though I had never played it. |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by Deval on 02/05/04 at 23:18:28 Games have always used the numpad for movement purposes if desired, it's hardly a revolutionary idea, but would be convenient. |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by Pandilex on 02/05/04 at 23:39:57 problem is you use the up arrow for previous command, and the left and right arrows for going left and right. If I'm not mistaken the standard method of key capture does not distinguish between the arrows on the numeric keypad, and the standard arrow keys. And with num lock toggled, you'd not be able to type numbers! |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by Silverwizard on 02/06/04 at 00:55:06 What about using scan codes of the keys that way it is the key and not the key type and I also believe that is how it is donein Visual Basic (the language I have heard this game is programmed in). That was it would not stop u from using any other game commands and also let you type numbers. |

It might be possible, but I'm not sure, and I can't test it personally because I ritually burned my copy of visual basic. However, if you load up notepad, and type some letters, hit the NUM LOCK key and use the arrow keys / numeric keypad arrow keys, you'll see they both do the same thing which is one of the places I base my suspicions on. |

Hah! You have no idea how little key-tapping you are actually doing. I'll accumulate more keystrokes in 10 minutes than you will over 5 hours of playing Nightmist. |

Title: Re: Direction Pad Post by Silverwizard on 02/07/04 at 02:23:04 In response to Pandi I acctually use a language based and VB created mainly for 3d game creation rather than 2d but yes they do the same thing but the scancode of the key is different and VB (or at least my variant) uses the key's scancode rather than the keys type so any key could do anything but they are labled to do things people usually program them as. The spacebar is used as a fire button in alot of games despite the fact it types a space, now if you did this with numlock on it would prolly type the number and also move you. There is my coding knowledge on the subject, if JLH or some other VB user would reply they can say wether or not it is the same. |
