Title: The Omnipotent Monk Post by Lastel on 12/16/03 at 21:40:23 Well, obviously the Monk is a heavily sought after class, you see people posting about it all over. On that same toke, before you suggest that I look at all the other monk posts and maybe post on one of them, I will tell you this. I did search, and I found one post dedicated to monks as a class (too many people use the word monkey...my god!) and I reference that hear, I also hope that the person responsible will help add to this post. Oh, and the main reason I am starting a new post is a combination of desiring to be heard instead of muffled by petty complaints and whining as well as hoping that there will be less "flaming" here than there...One can only hope. Anyways, on 11/13/03 at 22:34:36, Rafie_Khan wrote:
I agree that Monks should be unarmed, but not strictly so. Your typical D&D Monk would use other such weapons as a Staff, Shuriken, and Kama, to name a few, in addition to the much more powerful hands. So yeah, for purpose of the game, make 'em unarmed, just had to say that. Next, religious devotion. Agreed, to a point. Yes Monks have some religious backing for their supernatural capabilities, but not so much as a Cleric, Druid, or even a Paladin. Of course, letting another warrior-type into the Dying Woods could also be hazardous... Quote:
6 Stamina, that’s gonna make them Fighters mighty jealous having to share their stamina with another class. So in order to prevent such problems, give them the standard 5, but make it quicker and give them special attacks akin to Dual Shot though a bit more accurate in order to accentuate their speed with their hands. Now we come to the next step, damage, Rafie suggested and interesting solution, Quote:
This totals to 24 correct? I guess that is a fair number considering average base damage is around 25. That of course means they need a substantial amount of special attacks and abilities...Oh no... Well, before I start that, armor. Monks don’t wear armor, its too hindering, so obviously they need natural armor. I suggest they start at 10 and increase by 2 every other level, by 7 from 29-30. This equals 45 armor (I believe). That of course isn’t as good as a normal character, so of course give them an increased dodge rate. Ok, finally to the part we’ve all been waiting for (except me). Monks need supernatural abilities to pound out damage with fists on par with your typical sword wielding warrior. Step 1: Basics. NAME NEEDED: The Monk, due to years of training, can attack more quickly, though slightly less accurate, then can even be attempted by the most agile of warriors. -2 attacks, 1 stamina, like Ranger's Dual Shot. Meditation: Through interconnection between his body and mind, the Monk is able to heal his wounds at an increased rate. -Regain health faster, all stamina to initiate, if an action is taken it ends, 0% dodge. Iron Fist: Through his association with the spiritual realm, the Monk can attack with his fist as though they were made of iron (without the weight hindrance) for a high amount of damage. -2 Stamina, around 250% damage, high miss % Focus: The exact opposite of Iron Fist, through meditation and interaction with spirits, the Monk can almost guarantee that his next attack will hit. -2 Stamina, significantly higher hit % (i.e. 99%) Yeah, you get the idea. If there is any more interest, I will consider more additions, or if you wish to make suggestions on your own, go ahead. |

Title: Re: The Omnipotent Monk Post by Issy on 12/16/03 at 22:52:03 This really irritates me. People have continually wrote up new classes, and some very nice ones at that, to be added to the game. JLH and Pandi won't make them. So, what makes you think posting about it will make it added? More then likely, it won't be... Its a class thats been posted MANY times before-hand, they havn't been added in the past, more then likely, not in the future. |

Title: Re: The Omnipotent Monk Post by Lastel on 12/16/03 at 23:05:11 Nothing makes me think that it will. JLH and Pandilex have shown no sign of support for any other classes. Yet this is the Suggestions forum, so I am giving my suggestion. If you dont like that, then fine, dont worry about it... |

Title: Re: The Omnipotent Monk Post by SamuelxZeck-P1C on 12/21/03 at 20:40:05 In my opinion, From the way he puts it if JLH and Pandilex put it in the game. I think it would be an awsome class. There always has to be more classes. There arnt only Fighters, Berserkers, Druids, Clerics, Pacifists, Rangers, and Paladins in the world. **Added** The more classes that are added as the game goes on, will make it better. |

Title: Re: The Omnipotent Monk Post by Hexagram on 12/22/03 at 01:50:25 I agree with that, but on the other hand- more classes make it harder to balance. It can be hard too to make them all unique when theres only a small range of general abilities to use. I like the class tho. |

Title: Re: The Omnipotent Monk Post by Sauruman on 12/22/03 at 07:31:02 What about the Bounty Hunter class? That one was highly sought after, and seems like it would fit in a lot with the Nightmist settings. |
