Title: Weapons with abilities
Post by Sauruman on 11/07/03 at 09:14:54
I was thinking of a twist that could be used in nightmist, and I think I found one.

Armor and weapons with different abilites.

Mahogany vest: -75% damage from projectiles but +10% from arm weilded weapons

Chain link vest: -60% damage arm weilded weapons but +20 from arrows

Robe of life: With every hit, you (the person being attacked) regains 10/20 hp and mana if the class supports it.

Staff of corruption: if a mage has one, he has the corruption spell. It reverses all the spells of the  person who was hit with corruption(divine restoration becomes an attacking spell), and for every spell they cast they lose 10% of their HP. Cannot be casted on clannies/friends/alts, corrupted spell does damage to people only, not NPCs.

A gym, you go there and "work out", and in the field that you work out you gain another stat point (if you model by buying different armor types and wearing them consistantly you raise charisma, solving puzzles/casting spells gives you intel, attacking dummies gives str, etc.). Crit can only get the max for that class. (18 str halfling would have no need to work out)

Spell rings: Ring of flame, ring of shock, so on. All ring spells have a -50% damage to mages and druids.

Seven different pike strenght weapons for attacking classes, each with a 20% increase damage to a specific class (one weapon does 20% damage to mages, and nothing to other classes).

A few ideas? Because NM needs something.

I liked the first couple, but then it went abit off.

Being able to 'work out' to gain stats.. Wouldn't that just promote lame stats being made into 6 stat crits.. Any fool could go make money, until the game's full of 6 stat crits.

You really wanna fight a something that's able to do 500+ damage in one round..? It'd make Clerics almost unstoppable.

The spell ring's a good idea, but it should cast the spell at like 10% chance or something, and just work the same as the normal spell would... (Too much like D2 though)

It would be no walk in the park, it would be set to only a certain area, with no beating the system (I.E., torches in swamps). And you couldn't get a 6 stat, fighters can't work out intel.

The way the corruption spell would be set up is to attack only it's NOPK characters/clannies/friends/party members. The whole permise is to turn the healer against it's own party for awhile. You wouldn't be able to cast it, then attack a boss for crazy damage (unless it's an undead monster).

I would like the "magical" property to do something more than damage certain monsters. Cursed weapons would also be quite interesting. Armor with different properties would definitely be cool as well.

This game is nothing like D2 why change it? The weapons would be cool if they were a little differant * dances to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia!" >>>>>>>>>  ;D

I don't think it -needs- them, but they could make a nice addition to the game.

Nah it needs them, everyone is far too convinced every piece of armor is safe to equip...

Yes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need some weapons that have variety and invoke strategy, rather than seeing who can get a halberd first. I mean, if you could look at the game through your character's eyes, look at how plain everything would be. Everyone's got the same armor and clothes (except berserkers, kinda funny). Adding weapons and armor that had upsides and downsides would require people to think and use stragety. Rangers abound, get an armor that has a higher resistance to arrows, but leave yourself open to a halberd attack, or vice versa?

I dunno bout half the things you guys are talking about, but a couple things caught my eye. For one Naked zerkers, Why not let them wear a Pin stripe shirt, bandanna, eye patch etc.. They can wear an aet thol thinggy and rings of windia. Why not let them put some pirate gear on that gives no armor.

Crystal Sword, Sounds nice, and could prolly be coded into game. Alternate drop for the Crystal Giant of course. Base I'd like to see it 27  :P for lvl 27+ zerkers, fighters. But yet that would leave pallies in the dust... Mabey Fighter,Zerker,Pally?

Gotta think realistic, I know you guys wanna change the way weapons and armor are.. But sounds a lil far fetched if you ask me..

The idea itself is good, but your suggested effects aren't. I would also like to see cursed items, and elements added. So a Fire Weapon would do less damage against a fire monster, but more against vines or something else. Only problem with that is that we currently don't have very many different weapon types in game, but eventually that will change.
