Title: Offline Nightmist.
Post by Sausage on 11/02/03 at 09:26:59
I know this has been said before, but hear me out.

I say there is a seperate much larger version of Nightmist to be downloaded for offline use. It would have to be larger because it is completely independent from the server.

You have a NEW  account name and password (It could be the same.. It really doesn't matter because this would have no link to your online account.) You would roll your crits and play them. You could have as many crits as you want. You could not send crits from one account to another. There would be no lag unless your comp starts slowing down due to multiple Nightmist windows being up.

Now why wouldn't that work?? I can see that some people might say that it takes away from exploring ingame. But if people are exploring then what does it matter? If their knowledge is going to have any effect on anyone else it will have to be when they venture out in the real world and then they are open for attack.

I like it.. What do you think?

People could exploit bugs and have a basic advantage which they can carry over into the online version.  (ie: mapping)

its possible to do an offline version.  i would do one myself, but it will mean i have to use ASL, and my code wont be protected as you need the Quest engine to run the file, and the file is a simple .asl file which stores all the code and is easily accessed.  the only way to make it unaccessable is by putting it online.  im hoping to get a telnet version of nightmist running soon though.

Why not just send out a modified nightmist for single playing... And dont allow the players to cross over to the online version... It would A)Be interesting for mapping and such seeing as you could TEST an area yourself before you submitted it to the forums, and B) you could acctually test out ANY idea you thought would be good for the nightmist forums.

This could clear up a lot of the stupid overpowering ideas we see on the forums, and would give people a way of... Practicing for real world nightmist.  :)

like stotic said....u can exploit bugs, then goto them ingame. a modified version would just be a copy with modified parts.

it would take too long anyway....

and how do you propose players who know nothing about coding implement such features?

and in single player, you could just hack it so u get all the best items, modify items, modify maps, modify commands, so you can find where bosses are etc.  there is no possible way, without recoding the whole game, could there ever be a single player nightmist.

if you want to make a single player game like nightmist, then i suggest using Quest.  http://www.axeuk.com  excellent, and powerful MuD creating program

no, he just keeps saying hes know VB, Qbasic, ASL, HTML etc.  take a look at his site, somehow i dont think he knows HTML, and he definately doesnt know VB OR Qbasic for that matter, and as for ASL, the guy has been there for like.. 2 days  lmao.  anyway, hope you enjoy that, ive been using it for a good 2 years, its quite good

if you ever find the very first version, compare it too the latest version, man, it gets better every time.  and Alex, hes the only guy running the whole thing
