Title: Suggestion
Post by Shane on 10/23/03 at 22:01:38
Heres a suggestion, how about making an auto thing to ban EVERYONE who curses and not just banning ppl when staff is online. :o

As said hundreds of times before, no, because people would just use words to get round it no matter how many things were blocked.

Well it just dont seem right that ppl get banned when staff are on and others dont when staff arent. Either ban then all or none at all. Do you see my point?

People can always wait and report

Some defence has to be better than none.

That wont work, reports can be altered, as can pages to staff with the offensive language.

Yeah, but the logs of the converstations can't be except by those who have access... or the staff that's checking them.  So if you give them a direct quote and the approximate time when it occured, and make sure it's personal, not just cuz someone slipped up once... then the staff will be able to track it down and take action.

I have never had any problems with reporting or staff not being online... If I have a problem staff members always help me including issues with disruptive players...

/t Lokey only JLH, Pandilex and Oracle have access to system logs and can check up on them.

JLH only has access to logs, although I'm sure Pandilex can get them from JLH.

I wasn't sure who all had access to the logs.  But I do know that logs are available and can be checked.  So if someone pages with false information, I would think that would get them banned.  So why would anyone try something like that?  But the fact remains, just because a staff doesn't appear to be available for you to report it to right then, doesn't mean they can't still act.  I think the staff does a really good job for the most part on keeping control.  Some abuse the grace that they give, but I for one have never had a problem with them taking care of "business."  They just need to be able to have the time to investigate and deal with the issue without constant hassle from someone who's not happy that it's taking a bit.  Anyway, that's my 2 cents for now.

What I usually do after the fact is page the person, and usually their attitude gives them away.  If I get a, Well I was mad, then I know they did it.  If they say, Well thats a lie, then I just say watch your mouth and monitor then in all their chats.  If they actually did say it they usually like to brag to friends about "outsmarting" the staffer.

Plain and Simple everyone uses bad language no matter what. It can't be prevented 24/7, 365 days a year. Just turn off your chats for a while, then when you turn them on again language usually has cleared up.

I just find it pointless to complain about something you probably do/will do from time to time wether it be present time, or in the near future.

But there are rules.... Why not keep to them??

And you do this all the time? Careful...you might incriminate yourself.

Did you even read the topic or my starting post? Not a complaint, was a suggestion. And why say,"As this is a game for all ages you may have your computer banned for up to a week unless you keep all chat clean." on the client when you first log on if your not going to enforce it or find a way to enforce it whether staff are online or not?

I said usually, there are times I dont, especially if the person has had past incidents before on their profile.

As for you Cos, as it says when you log on, you say crap about staff you get banned, no matter which chat.

Ok I give ya the usually part, but I myself have had a perfect record as far as banning goes, I do not curse in open chat and if I do I agree I should be banned.
BUT ...
I have never been banned before as I said, and I doubt "dumbass" is the worst thing you have heard on game. I still think that the person I said it too (for ksin mind you) was your buddy and all, infact I know this person has to be:
  • 1) They are on your friend chat
  • 2) You were cloaked that day so this person couldnt have paged you
  • 3) I was not more than 3 grids from the person so I saw no yell.

But anyways, its over and done with, my suggestion still stands, and I think there should be a way created to deal with ALL cursing in game in open chat. Cause the staff stays cloaked (unless there is an event such as the triplex or mosh) and even though it has been said that reported abuse is dealt with, I have sent in reports and to this day the crit that was reported still goes without a ban comment.

EDIT: And hey look the word I was banned for is not even in the censor on the forum!?! Should it be?

this thread seems to be going on a bit with very little point of doing so.
i don't plan to add filters, since they are too easy to get around, instead if you complain to a staff member online, they can sort it out for you, and dayban if appropriate, if there are no staff online, then memo me or /bug it with the current /server time, and the exact message they sent to you pasted in, and i will deal with it myself.
more staff are not required to deal with this atm

actually i reported 2 individuals to oracle yesterday and the matter was dealt with immediately. if there arnt staff online, or they are cloacked, contact them by email or a messenger.

also, this topic has been brought up MANY times before, and it has never changed.  you cant stop a whole community from using foul language.  it happens with every game.  If somehow the foul language is effecting you in some way, i can assure you there are other games out there like this which dont have swearing at all, but the games are usually telnet.  im not saying telnet games arnt fun, coz they are, but the telnet community died down a bit years ago, and not many people play the games anymore.  but this has been brought up alot, and its not going to change that much  :-/
