Title: Player Shops
Post by Stotic on 10/15/03 at 01:50:35
I was going to wait awhile before posting this (like so many players have), but since it kinda came up in the private houses thread I thought I'd just get it up here.

I'm thinking it should be 2 million gold to start a shop.  These will be in markets in each town (newly created) similar to how Nightmist's current one.  For a spot on main roads (out of the district) the price would be 3 million.

There will be a tax price which I am unsure of at this moment.

The stores will act as current shops and vaults.  100 items max no matter what kind.  There will be buttons to set this all up viewable only to the storeowner. (and there will only be one to prevent theft issues)

So basically I can look through player's shops in a more realistic environment then the website.  Adds a new way to profit and a new role-playing aspect.

yep, and make it so u have some normal rooms to storage ur stuff u gonna sell but dont wanna set it for sale yet, anyways great idea but plz dont make taxes as much as in the current housing system because then owning a shop would be a kamikaze...

This will prolly cost more then it gets you, so imma stick to the website.

Edit: Maybe if you can put crits in your shop, with a lookover it will show all (stats, xp, hp/mp etc.) and you can instant sell it like you can sell items on the forum. Just have to have the money on you and put down your account name. To avoid problems they all come naked and items can be bought in the same shop (if you put it there that is)

Or with shops being implemented trade skills could run hand in hand.

For example, you mine precious ores/minerals/metals/gems. and either smith them yourself or put them on sale in your shop for a smith to buy, the smith then smiths the items into armor, or weapons or such, and sells them at his shop.

This could essentially open the door to nightmist trade skills.  ;D

i love the idea, but not that many people on Nightmist will have 2 million of gold or even 3 million.... but its still great.

I also like the idea and I also agree w/the statement that it is a bit expensive. Perhaps you could make it a lower price to get a smaller shop say... 350k to get 10 spaces... and then you could purchase upgrades for your shop allowing you more spaces.

Maybe the "out in the middle of nowhere shops" should cost a lot less...   But the shops in good locations that people pass everyday Should cost a lot to keep it from becoming overpopulated.  Maybe shops could have multiple rooms, like a clan house, that could show weapons/armor/crits all seperate rooms.  Maybe even a room for training set up... like "your cleric lvl 1-20 for 50k" just a thought.  Each room would have its own price of course.  Also, some of the shop like features we have for clan houses could be options... Sex Change Shop, Gaming Room, maybe a Name Change Shop (that would be cool)

Just some thought to help out an idea I really like.

The best shop would still be the one on the website, seeing as it only costs 100g an item. And everyone sees it, and you would only pay 2 mill if you can get it back with selling stuff, which would take like forever. So the only ppl shops would be for are role-players, and they ussually arent that rich.

Good idea. I think the shops that are on the outskirts of the city should cost a lot less since it would be in a pk zone. And the shops in town should be a lot. It would put the characters on a quest if you build a shop in the large forest or the orc caves and you are selling Rose Blade, or other expensive armor....

Once again outsider, you shoot down an idea without even giving it a chance...

Your not even thinking of further possibilities opened by this idea...

Trade skills, and shops are only for roleplayers? You've been playing hack and slash games far too often my friend... the game shouldnt be all about killing.

This could, AS I SAID, open the door for trade skills, which could then also open doors for alternate methods of gaining exp besides click monster picturex5 wait, and repeat said process.

IT adds depth, which this game is rather devoid of right now sorry to say.

See, you proved my point right there...

Your only thoughts are on profit, if you cant make a profit for it, then why should it exist...

If you could maybe get past that line of thinking you would see the depth that could be added with this idea alone, ONCE AGAIN moving along the trade skills idea line...

This idea may not be AS benifitial to the game as some want it to be, but the avenues of developement it opens DOES benifit the game... go figure....

Ok, Just thought I should post one last time.

Its been said time, and time again outsider, just maybe you missed it or something, but Ill say it again JUST for YOUR benifit. This my dear friend, is not the real world. If you think it is seek help I beg of you.

And If you hadnt figured out by now while looking through that red haze of yours I was agreeing with you to a certain extent... No, to begin with profit would not occur for anyone that bought these shops, BUT if this idea were put in, and alternative methods of supplying shops were to come up im almost POSITIVE that some type of harvesting raw materials from the environment would come up. Hence would be the brith of player trade skills.

Which would in turn, make player shops more of a demand seeing as they would most likely sell these ores/logs/etc for a much reduced price of that of the acctual town shops. This could also open avenues of player crafted items *Probably not very strong ones, or if they were strong the person would have to be a wickedly skilled blacksmith* It would also, IN TURN, bring what you so desire, thats right, profit.

See?

If trade skills were put in, one thing that I would have to vehemently argue, is that the abilities 'I.E Mining, smelting, forging, lumbering, sewing, carpentry', have an independant rating value, unrelated to the characters player level.

I.E A level 30 could still have a smithing or fishing value of 1. Simply because he is superb at whacking off goblins heads, does not mean he knows the intricacies of creating an awe inspiring weapon, or the perfect bait to use for whatever fish he is trying to catch.

The only way to improve this skill rating, is experience in the trade itself. Forresting would require spending time in the woods, with an axe, hacking away at trees, at the lower levels frequently rendering the lumber unuseable. Mining would require spending time in Sentant hacking away at chunks of rock with a pick, often finding nothing at lower levels. Fishing would require spending decent time next to a pond with your stick and string catching alot of seaweed between fish at low levels, etc etc etc

It wouldn't make sense to just be a master at all crafts simply because of the fact that your character is level 30, yet has never had any experience in the trade.

d**n thats alot for a shop. they should only be 150k-200k. If there were a trades option when you create a char that would be good

Deval is right on the Espect of how the game would See it'self.  But like they did with the Pacies they could also do with a New class of working people to where they cann't attack a bear but the Tree only and still be hit bye the bear and Staughter the tree. But it would take a sertan kinda race for that kinda job you know. The Staff are very smart and have done alot and with this input think they have many outlet's as to what could happen in the games Advancement's.    ;D
