Title: The Spy
Post by Spekkio on 10/08/03 at 13:18:36
All this talk about new characters needed in nightmist has givin me an idea.

Spy Class:

Races: Human, Elves, Gnomes, Halflings, Half-Elves

Hp gain: Same as thieves.

Mp gain: Same as paladins.

Equipment: Armor same as thieves.  Weapons daggers and swords.

Abilities/Spells:

Covert: Current ability.

Hide: Same as Camouflage.

Spy: As /look, but it shows Current HP/Max HP/Current MP/Max MP  (and maybe items in inventory and/or gold)
[cast spy/blah] <-- just so you know its different from spyglass.   (Ability not spell | Lvl. 5 to use)

Escape: Same as recall.

Vision:  Current spell.

I don't think this has been suggested before, but it's a great idea!!

Edit: Also, give them a higher % to spot covert thieves entering a room.

What fighting abilities do they have, or do they work like secretive fighters?

Some suggestions:

Poison Weapon: Adds poison damage to your currect weapon. Level x 2 damage every 20seconds, Cleanse is the only way to remove it. Lasts for 1minute on the weapon.
Example: You apply poison to your weapons blade.

Dust Kick?: Works the same as Divine Light, lasts for 2minutes.
Example: You kick dust into the air, causing confusion to all around you.

Double Stab: Is a two stam attack, causing damage: Two normal hits+30%, meaning:
Two normal hits=50
50+50=100 +30%=130
Obviously the 'normal' hit is a variable.

Example: Using your lighting reflexes you lunge at your enemy with a deadly double blow.

We don't need any more covertable classes.

You can never have enough covertable classes, but if that's the only problem... they don't have to have covert!  ::)

Idea: Why don't they become a solo class, such as a pacifist?
I do like the idea and that, it sounds interesting to play.

Um... No, that would be a thief!!!  A spy would be used to gather information.  He could find out how strong and weak crits are.  With a camoflage like ability the spy can quickly and stealthly find out information on areas and what players are where.  They aren't Great for combat, but they can hold thier weight.  I for one would love to have a spy to find out all the info i need to know... for instance:  You're running around training with 50,000 gold on one of your crits (you have 5 with you) by spying I can find out witch crit has the gold and get a party together to go kill that crit and run off with your gold.  weee!!!

sounds like you're suggesting replacing a well played theif with an 'automated or programmed thief'...  I never had much trouble finding out who was training with the gold   8)

I don't think any class will be approved unless it's unique and original, which this is not.

Hmm... now that sounds like fun (can't take gold/items, but he can go into them... and he'd have to get the mumble keys to rooms as well...)

BUT TAKEING GOLD WOULD NOT BE GOOD!  I dislike that idea...

ps: The Spy could not go into rooms that require a possition in the clan (ie: Founders Vault/Bank)

Mwhahahh....

Yes!! Going into clans and spying would be the coolest thing ever!

Maybe have a listen command/ability that makes them able to hear party chat going on in the same area.

hmmmmm.. a thief with no steal or assass... may i ask one question..

HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU LEVEL IT???

Either through standard attacks or using an ability like the one alone suggested, I'm guessing.  Judging from Stotic's response and the lack of response from other staffers this class doesn't seem to have much of a chance though.

So heres a challenge for you all, lets see how hard this class really would be

Level a standard thief to arch with no help from other alts, and without ever using assass of steal gold

I doubt very much, any 'new' class would stand a chance, purely due to it lacking in originality. I posted afew ideas, not cus i want this class, but simply cus i'll help in any way i can, when someone needs it.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU LVL A FIGHTER????  This class would be like a covert fighter, but with less hp and power to even it out.

Have you seen how woeful the thief's standard attack is? A fighter has hit bonus, damage bonus, earlier stam and 6 stam to help them level. Thieves have assassinate (and steal to powertrain).

from 29 to 30 = 70 mill
Average fighter round = 80*4=320 (25.6kxp on sspider)
Average thief assassinate round = 280 (22.4kxp on sspider)
Average thief normal attack round = 30*3=90 (7.2k on sspider)
Fighter needs 2734 rounds
Thief assassing needs 3125 rounds
Thief attacking needs 9722 rounds

Would anyone ever use this class?

Edit - Oh, and covert dosnt help your xp bar go up one little bit, so it hardly 'evens it out'

a spy could have a dagger that has a poison that stuns the target. Kinda like tranquilizers, but not as powerful. Think about having a dagger that has the effects of a tranquilizer dart? It could attack the same as a 16 str. thief. at 19str... that could maybe even things out, if not then you can decrease the dmg???

Thieves have to work a little harder to get their covert and steal gold.

As I stated, the spy should be able to use Swords too.  He would be able to do more damage than a thief using regular attack (maybe around the same as assassinate).  It just has to do less damage than a fighter, or the fighter class would become useless.  And to answer your question about "Who would use it?"  I would!  And I bet lots more would too.  If it is that much harder to arch... so what... just means you have accomplished more.
