Title: splitting a class in 2
Post by Human on 10/06/03 at 23:07:36
from what ive seen from certain people, it seems people think that thieves should be more thieve like. and i feel the same way.

maybe there should be a class split. we could have thieves - asassinate with some abilities, along with assassins, which would be more killing oriented.

just a rough draft of ideas for each class

Thief:
Gain between 7-9 hp per level.

Covert ~ 1 stamina ~ lvl 1 ability, same as it is now

Steal Gold ~ 1 stamina ~ lvl 1 ability, set up a little differently
ammount of gold stolen would be determined by lvl+con/2-5 (rounded down) =base% combatted by how it is set up now

Detect Trap ~ no stam ~ lvl 5 ability
while clicked, the ability works autimatically to protect the user from traps. about 5% of the time, it'll say, the user detected a trap, and avoided setting it off

climb ~ 1 stamina per square moved up ~ level 9 ability, unlike other classes, thieves are able to climb a lot better, to be able to get intohouses and such. with this ability, they would be able to climb up things that would noprmally need a rope, or where a wall is in  the way, i.e. in arilin, they could get into the thieves guild through to arilin city. in the future, areas could possibly be built with this ability in mind

Sight of the Thief ~ no stam ~ lvl 20 ability
while clicked, ability works autimatically to reveal traps. the percentage would be determined based upon the thieves wis+con/2

Slipping Touch ~ all stamina ~ lvl 25 ability
ability would steal all of targets gold. combatted by targets equation [ wis+cha ] to thieves equation [ lvl base (0 for 25, 1 for 26, 5 for arch)+con+a random number 1-10+covert bonus (15 extra points for being covert) ]. so to beat a perfect elf, you would have to be perfect dwarf coverted, arch, and 10 point random number. hard, yes, but its worth it in some points.

Assassins:
gain 8-11 hp per lvl

Asassinate ~ all stamina ~ lvl 1 ability, set up like it is now

Covert ~ 1 stamina ~ lvl 1 ability works same as now

Posion Darts ~ 1 stamina each ~ lvl 5 ability, throws a 'dart' at the target poisoning them for 5 points of damage per poison round. would work int+dex/2 = hit%

Shadow Slip ~ 2 stamina ~ lvl 15 same, as covert, but a lot harder to be seen

Backstab ~ all stamina ~ lvl 20 ability, allows you to attack someone who is on your nopk list, works as assassinate

Invisible Stealth ~ all stamina, when using this ability, you dont gain stamina back ~ lvl 25 ability, when in form, no one can spot you, even by using a spyglass. founders and chair(wo)man cant see your location, and your character is put into a dnd state.

Venom ~ 1 stamina each ~ lvl 25 ability, throws a 'dart' at the target poisoning them for 25 points of damage per poison round. would work int+dex/2 = hit%

Deathcast ~ all stamina ~ lvl 27 ability, acts as assinate, but has a better hit percentage and deals more damage.

Nice...

Heh, here's my opinion on some things that should be changed a little.

Make Shadow Slip for the Thieves. They're the stealthier class, so they should be less easier to spot.
Raise Thief steal % to what it used to be. They should be stealing fiends.
Increase Thief max HP gain to 10. Only Dwarves with 21 con may get 10.
Get rid of the trap sighting abilities and have a passive ability at lvl 28 that renders all traps harmless to them (except for unescapable death traps ie. falling off a cliff).
Best weapon for Thieves should be some sort of new dagger with 23-24 base damage.
Make assassinate less effective for them.

Ok, heh, now for Assassins ;)

They have access to all daggers.
Deathcast can only be used with 5 stamina.
Deathcast should only be slightly better than assassinate. Like 5% more damage and 7% more accuracy.

Yeah, I think that is it. Oh yeah, a question on Invisible Stealth. Can nothing make you uninvisible, like not even vision? You're just sitting there in an undisturbable state?

1) Shadow slip: assassins, i believe, would be more careful in hiding, they dont want to be seen trying to assassinate someone. maybe they both can get it, just thieves get it a higher level

2) gold thievery: true, a master thief should be able to steal more, maybe 35% at arch?

3) good point, max hp for dwarves, only dwarves, should be 10

4) is there any non instakill traps level 28+? i know of the 6 in the desert, but what your saying, seems useless.

5) thieves wouldnt even have an assassinate ability...and io was thinking as base weapon, normal high would be around cleric level, since they wouldnt be a class made for killing, instead, stealing. and maybe a boss drop could raise that a little bit high, say 24, 25 max

assassins

1)they should have access to all dagers, knives, and shards, if any were ever implemented

2)sounds good for increases, an i was thinking the same, 5 stamina or cant be casted

3) What i was thinking, is nothing at all can make you visible again, other then a staff vision cast or something. in my mind, i was seeing it as them compltely blending in with thier backround, even more so then druids can, and in doing so, any movement would give them away, hence tohe no stam regain. also, you would need full stamina to use. and after you came out of it, you would be vulnerable until you regained your stamina like normal, so you wouldnt be able to just come out and attack or leave.

With everyone in the realm knowing about the thieves' new abilities regarding stealing gold I'd think they would be quite more carfeful with it.  So there wouldn't be that much out there to steal from players.  May I suggest a steal inventory item command...based on whatever equations you want to throw out.  Take into consideration that adding classes isn't the easiest thing to do.  It is probably the harded part of development in this game.

Yes, but if thieves were split, jlh does have a lot of past work to... draw from in this area, seeing as thieves WERE split before.

Personally I dont think they should be split, they should just have some better stealing abilities so they can at least live up to their name. Or just rename them assassins, either way lol.

That's nothing to draw from.  The design of classes is different now and even then the thief class consisted of covert and steal.  The assassin consisted of covert and assassinate.  w0w  Not much to build on, eh?

Are you trying to say to let the thieves not only steal gold, but steal items in their inventory? If you are saying that then very good idea, but if you're not then I want to suggest it. A Thief doesn't steal just gold. Thieves are thieves, they take anything thats worth of value.

And what would happen to the current thieves?  Would they be given a choice as to wheather they would like to be an assassin or a thief?  I dont like this idea simply because I like my thieves.   ::)

i think ti would be a good idea to let thieves steal items in inventory. im just tired of seeing thieves used JUSt to assassinate. perosnally, i think if your not caught, a message should say your pockets feel lighter. first off, how are you going to hold 500 gold coins in your 'pockets' let alone 1,000; 5,000; 10,000 and so on, when i think of me carryign my gold, i see it in a gold POUCH. he flaw with stealing gold is...when you arent able to steal gold, and get seen, you get attacked, okay, that's forseable, but when you actually steal a message pops up saying, you feel your pockets get a bit lighter, but wait, i thought it was a succesful steal, doesnt that mean the player shouldnt be alerted, but then thats nbot even all, even when you are brassin enough to steal, you get such an insugnificant ammount, you'd rather just kill them off then try and tseal gold.
