Ok... I'm not sure how well this would fit in, but I'll try posting anyway. What I suggest is every class having the ability to hide. You can do it at any level, but it would take all your stamina, so if you have 4 stamina it would take 4, if you had 5 it would take 5 etc. Different classes would have a different chance of successfully hiding, and items could even be introduced to increase your chance.

Chance to hide:

Fighters - 10% chance to hide.
Rangers - 12% chance to hide, 18% in Forests.
Thieves - 25% chance to hide, 35% in 'dark'* areas.
Paladins - 12 % chance to hide.
Druids - 13 % chance to hide, 15% in Forests.
Mage - 15% chance to hide.
Cleric - 12% chance to hide.
Berserkers - 5% chance to hide.

New Items:

Ring of the Shadows - +10% chance to hide, could be bought/dropped by Malok maybe.
Amulet of Stealth - +1 con (already in game) and maybe a +5% chance to hide.
Pendant of Darkness/Stealth - +5 chance to hide, dropped by the main boss in scarlet daggers guild (then you go north to get the dagger).

When hidden you can move, but if you do you will become visible again. The main point in this is to give people a small chance to escape, but if you fail it leaves you defenceless, as you have no stamina. Even with players/monsters on the square, you can still try to hide.

This wouldn't replace covert for thieves, as covert would allow them a 100% chance to hide with no risk, and they can move. But the hide ability would allow them to escape danger.

*I'm sure I remember a staff member saying that some squares have a 'dark' effect when being made, so thieves get a bonus to assassinate I think. Not really sure if this is true or not though lol.

i like it lol although the chances should be a bit higher. or use a lil less stam. and it should be formula like so chance is based on stats and lvl.

Good idea, except one thing, the amulet that costs a mill does the same as a pendant from Rel Thon? (I think)
And also they can't both be equiped so what's the point of buying the amulet?

The Pendant only does +5% to hide, but the Amulet of Stealth gives +1 con aswell *shrugs* Also the pendant doesn't cost anything, so you might use that instead.

Yeah, that was my point, why would you pay alot for something that doesn't help you (except thieves) anymore than something free?  :) Maybe the amulet could do a bit more as it's so expensive?

Not everyone can buy an amulet that costs a mill, just to hide, and forfeit useful stat mods. Think about it, it's for people to escape, think that people that can afford it have weak crits and don't know their way around the map, so they need to use this ability to hide? I don't think so.  :P

i thought about the hiding lol but won't help much if you can't move for a while till your stam regens. vision will just clear it again. :D

I'm shure some one is gona tell me to shut up but it has to be said the more and more you give these types of ablitys to every 1 else the less a thief has they took our ablity to covert in moshes and as far as I know mages and the other class that has camoflaug can still hide in mosses becuse they are magic ablitys so all this is doing is raping the thief class more and more, leaving them with nothing the only special ablitys they have now is still assassinate and steal gold and the more the game is "improved" with things a thief is supose to have for every other class the more you might as well just take the thief class out it is beging to get out-dated I personly don't remember the last time a thief got any good updates other then when all the stats changed happend so if you are gona add this to the game (wich no one has confiremd or disproved) but if it is added then just take thiefs and make them something else?

Well, then.. I don't like this idea, I happen to love my thieves the way they are.. minus how long it takes stam to come back.. I miss how the stam used to be..  :-/

If the item were particularly rare, it would be fine, but don't forget, thieves can move whilst hidden. I generally like the idea.

Sorry, I forgot zerkers lol. They could have a 5% chance, as the chances are they wouldn't bother to hide, they'd just run around going mental trying to find and kill people.

Any staff want to comment on this?

the only thing that bothers me about the idea is that it takes all your stam. you can't leave the square and if someone does vision, your screwed lol :D

It makes sense if it takes all stamina, your fighting, and your all tierd out, and you find the perfect moment to run and hide, you run as fast as you can, once you get there, you can hardly breathe, because of the fighting and running.

hide lol ... it's useless with thieves cuz it's the same as covert  :P

hide should something new compared to covert ( other than not alloying to move lol )

It's nothing like covert.. covert doesn't take stamina, 100% chance it works, and you can move with it. Your another person that doesn't bother to read posts fully aren't you?

A Square isnt the size of a mile, how in the hell can u hide when ppl stand next to u, only way i see is by moving a square and then hide.

We dont' know how large a square is actually. Also, if your in the middle of a fight with loads of people, theres a small chance that you can hide without them noticing (their concentrating on fighting each other, not you)

Oh well i still dont like it, way too confussing seeing as anyone can just hide and be visible again. its gonna freak me out for ones, dunno about other ppl but i doubt we'll see this ingame.

I love the idea, i thought berserkers had less chance to hide because of their size, bulky etc. Maybe that could make an effect somewhere? Eg "Blah blah spotted your Bow making you come out of hiding!"??

jsut one thing

let's say i got hide with my arch zerkers on a square i could just attack anyone who passes withouth they seeing me. which kinda suck. with hide all classes have the ability to attack withouth beeing spotted.

But if they fail (and the chances are they would) then they would be left on a square with no stamina, which would give them a big chance of dying. Also, because you can't move you'd have to wait for someone to actually stay on that square for longer than a second.. the chances of clicking someone as they run past isn't very high.
