Title: Maps Maps Maps
Post by James on 08/12/03 at 00:18:05
I'v tryed to do this before but I'm no VB exspert I talk to JLH about it and I don't know what I'm doing exsactly but any ways so I thought I'd post the idea and see if any one had any suggestions or see if any one wants to help.

So The Basic Is Idea:

A Program That Creats Maps As You Move Around

Some Features:
As you move it makes a map
a feature to seperate map areas I.E. "New Area" button
so when you press this it creats a new map linked to the last area you where just in, Buttons to creat a room I.E. you can press Pub and it sets that sqare on the map as a pub, same for gilds and bosses, also a area to link sqares together i.e. if you come from the swers to arlink you can connect larg forest to the arlin area so you don't have heaps of maps so it makes every thing unaversal

the program dose not save image files its all stored in .dat files and if you want to use the maps you open the program

a second mode so you don't always have to input info so it just shows u the maps and where you are on it
as well the visual would be collor coded roads would be gray grass would be green durt would be brown swers a slimy green color or perhaps a diff color.

as well the progam can be "docked" to the left or right of the screen so when you maximz Nm it dosn't cover the map program,?

so ideas suggestionis? flames?

you know there are programs out there, LOTS of them that do exactly that but they are for classic muds, moos, mushes ect. They are mapping utils. that record your movments and can even macro for you so you hit a hotkey and it will use the map you have created and move you throutgh the game for you based on where you want to go with your map. If you need help with programming a VB version i recommend you research these utils and use them as a basis for construction.

i have a mapping utility but the system requirements are rather high. you need a pen and a piece of paper. it works ok, but some prefer the pencil and piece of paper utility because it has more features like "undo".

I find it's easiest to get some paper and match sticks, it may not be permanent, but you get a thrill from knowing you have a possible fire hazard next to you, plus the added convienience of being able to use the match sticks as ear cleaners... and in my opinion, that blows VB and Pencil and Paper right out of the water.

Gotta agree with dognapot - pencil & paper.

I also think the kitty icon is cool.

I like to place jelly beans and gum drops and swedish berries and those tiny little jaw breakers and pieces of gum (chewed and unchewed) and little mints and those tiny little chocolate things that kinda look like flowers if you squint really hard and sometimes I'll use those really cool stickers that you can scratch and it smells like various fruits and sometimes I'll purposely spill pop (only the good smelling kind like 7-up) on the paper to make little markings and I'll sometimes take an eraser and pick bits of pink stuffies on put that on the paper and if I have them, I'll put little cookie crumbs on the paper and various condiments often find their little places on the paper and I'll use the crumbs from potato chips, too.
I suppose a pencil/pen would work, too, if you dipped it in like caramel or maybe cover it in taffy.
