Title: Endurance Meter
Post by Stotic on 07/12/03 at 20:39:07
I believe this has been suggested before, but anyway...

I'm tired of thieves always using assissinate, rangers using rapid fire.  What happened to regular attacks?  The special abilities should be that.  Special.  There should be a meter that has endurance in it.  A fast recharge rate.  And certain abilities will cost a certain amount of end.  God forbid a ranger doesn't shoot 6 arrows at once (in some odd way).  Sorry when I think of rangers I don't think the scouting creatues that strike in silence.  They remind me of tanks in this game.

I concur, i think people should learn to use a couple of diff. attacks...the only time i see ranger do anything other than rapid fire is when they duel...thieves dont use reg attacks ever...unless they're dueling the way i do...

Well i think there should be something added to involve "special" attacking or whatever.

Another thing gaddy said something like he never sees people use anything except rapid fire unless its in a duel....just to let you know i use hypno and duel shot/flaming aarow when im fighting too...so people do utilize the other skills

ya, cause in duels you've got the kind of time and macros set up to do so...just running around you dont really want to spend time trying to do all of that stuff.

Kinda reminds me of diablo 2 where the only thing people used to do was get a 99 zerker with Whirlwind maxed, and would only use whirlwind over, and over, and over.

Skills should be sort of like an 'Ace up your sleeve' If your doin bad in a battle and still have your skill meter full, you can pull out a special attack that MIGHT just surprise your enemy and possibly win your battle.

I think Bean has clarified what is needed most efficiently, and I agree 100%

Well i think they should have to use arrows you could just put them where the mana place is and call it a quiver instead of mana points and the quiver could be like an item and it could be for how many arrows you can hold and if ya dont have one you can hold say like (10-20) in your hand and then you could get a like small quiver in nightmist holding (50) and bigger ones in other towns (100-200)and maybe there could even be a boss that drops one that can hold like (300+) then you could buy arrows in shops like mana and stuff you know and maybe gnoll archers and other arrow useing monsters could drop them sometimes it would make them alot more real like and maybe you could get rid of the shield too i dont see how they hold 14 some pots a shield and still rapid fire people down all the time...

I think this is a very good idea, but needs some modification. Otherwise mages would be getting screwed rather massively more than they already are.

I think all the Abilities should remain as they are, but that level 29/30, they gain a 'Special Attack' as Stotic mentioned. This would be a hugely destructive force on able to be done once the endurance bar is full, perhaps doing something would make the Endurance Bar increase rapidly, like for a Cleric they would heal the injured (Players only) etc etc.

I like the idea greatly, but input a new 'Special Ability', because personally I dont want to be attacking people with my Hydra Thorn. Thats unless mages melee attacking damage is increased by about 1000%.

Also what would happen for fighters, they have to use their hands? Clerics only can use Heal? Also if Berserkers cant actually use berserk without having their bar full, then they are hardly Berserkers.

wait wait..im not understanding what eternyte just said...could someone clarify for me?  if they get 'special attacks' wouldnt mages get a magic attack (i.e. devestate could be this) fighters would get a special attack like...well i wouldnt know they dont do anything but click over and over../shrug...rangers could get something..i dont know what they'd get that would help them...but thats if we were talking about new abilitys...would these just be the old ones..only they couldnt use them as often?

I would say that mages magical attacks would COUNT as 'special attacks' As its the only real damage they can do...

On the other hand, an assassinate, or a rapid fire, or a berserk. Would be the kind of attacks that would require certain amounts of the endurance bar to be full. Am i correct stotic?

If that will ever happen, im happy i only play fighters, cuz having a thief, and not being able to use assassinate all the time pretty much sucks.

Eternyte, the End Bar would only be for abilties.  (special attacks that don't use mana).  So it won't affect mages, druids, and clerics etc.

If thieves casn only use assassinate ones in a while, then they will suck at pvp.

you wouldn't have to make it a full bar for every skill, say a quarter of an endurance meter for dual shot, half a meter for flaming arrow....a full one for rapid fire, orrrr you could make it so you can still do the skills...the damage percentage is just based on how full the endurance meter is  ;D

Oh umm outsider. Its not just thieves that it would happen to...

Zerks have smite and berserk
Rangers have rapid fire
Fighters should have something... yet they still dont.
thieves have assassinate.
And druids have morph ;)

Edit: and all those classes would retain thier pk power... It would just cause people to use strategy.

OH BTW, this would totally eliminate the hit and run tactic... Well ok not totally, but you wouldnt be able to run onto the square, assassinate/smite everyone and run away till ur stamina came back and repeat the process. So thats an up.

It is a little unfair if a few classes are uneffected by this 'Endurance Bar'. That is why I suggested adding a new ability. Which all classes could be affected on.
