Title: Stealing From Monsters
Post by InsaneNinjaPhreak on 04/29/03 at 19:04:16
We should be able to steal from monsters when theres more then one on a square, and maybe be able to attack different monsters of the same kind on a square.

hmm this would be an improvement to the game indeed, although i do not have any problems with the way it is now.

I like the current system thats in place now it makes it where yes the thiefs can steal form mosnsters when there is more then one in the square but when some ones kills the monsters there not at a total loss.

It was like this a while ago, i'm pretty sure of it. It was changed for one reason or another though.

I'd like to clarify myself here

There are two of the same monsters on the square, you steal all the gold from one, but then you can't steal from the second one unless you kill the first one, I was just thinking you should be able to steal from the second without killing the first.

There might be something implemented with the server that prevents this.  I recall JLH saying something about it awhile back.

I was actually thinking that might actually be the reason too.

It was changed so thieves wouldn't go around the desert with /steal s macro'ed.

You could easily make 600k/700k per trip.

That could be a problem, when I posted this I was just thinking about smaller monsters that generally have less gold but are still fun to steal from, possibly they could lock this ability on monsters that generally hold more money then others? or make it not avialable in some areas...

As far as I know, it's always been like that. The reason is when you type /steal [monster] or use the spells/abilities list and click a monster, it sends to the server '/steal [monster]' rather than a number saying which monster in the list you're stealing from. The server checks it against the first monster in the list of monsters on the square, and thus you can only steal from the first.

Two possible fixes (one will only work with /steal) are to make it so the client sends the number of the monster when you click (like goblin2 for the 2nd goblin), or alternatively search through all the monsters till it finds one on the square with gold (this of course only affects steal and not /a)

It used to be like someone mentioned above. If you stood on a square together with 2 sand spiders, you could rob both of them by simlply clicking on them.

fyi: well maybe its just a bug with mine, but ive noticed that lookovers on monsters will only show the first of that type of creature as well.

There'd be no chance of there being gold in the places where people train often then, hah. I don't mind how the stealing thing is now. The only problem I don't like about it is getting noticed during.
