Title: Area Development Post by newb on 03/18/03 at 02:45:09 As of late, i've seen alot new good areas being suggested and worked on. Unfortunately, staff are too busy working on their current areas to help out other players develop their areas more. What I suggest is that more staff are hired either as area developers or sysops. Area developers have been acting as more of sysops from what I have seen, thus defeating the purpose of an area developer. Just some thoughts, it would get more player developed areas in the game too. It couldn't hurt to give players a chance to put their areas in. Having another staff member do it feels impersonal and i'm sure areas would turn out better if they could be developed through the eyes of the player. And obviously only areas ok'ed by Pandilex and JLH would be warrant for the staff position to make them. As a friend pointed out to me, having so many staff would be confusin and possibly unsafe. Staff members should be trusted in all respects if they are to be hired as i'm sure the current staff are now. Also, once their area is done, their staff crit should be revoked unless another area is being creted by them. It would make alot of people happy to finally get the chance to put their area in and contribute to the game. Another suggestion, area developers might have their staff powers limited so they can focus on their areas more. I'm not trying to be mean or tell staff how to do their jobs, it just seems like they should stick to area developing, not sysoping. |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by Stotic on 03/18/03 at 03:52:34 We are no focusing on sysoping more at our own will, but its the overdemandment of the players. One can't focus when constantly being paged game questions, mosh requests, and trade requests. Not to say that we won't do these and we will gladly will(except moshes), but we can't assume the position solely until the nightmist community recognizes us at this position. But to tend to the original question. Nightmist is growing at a desirable constant rate. |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by Insomnia on 03/18/03 at 14:53:58 I'll have to agree that there seem to be a problem.. I've submitted an area and even made the description grids, and right now I don't know what's going on with it (no disrespect or anything), but it's been a while since I sent it all in. Adding more area developers wouldn't be the only sollution though, new (or present) sysop(s) staying uncloaked more often would possibly remove the 'need' of area developers being visible to help people in game, and they'd be able to concentrate more on what they are supposed to do. |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by JLH on 03/18/03 at 15:36:19 i don't know exactly how many areas people have submitted to staff, but by the sounds of it, looking at at least 10 areas. Areas do take time to work on, and while hiring more developers may get them into the game quicker, i become concerned about organisation. I manage new areas into the game myself, and the 2 staff forums for areas in progress currently contain 11 areas being worked on, some player, some staff alone, some multiple staff. |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by newb on 03/18/03 at 23:23:36 More area developers=more areas being put in=happy people who worked hard to get their area put in=players occupied with new areas=less complaining=easier time for staff ok, so i'm not good at math /shrug |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by Pandilex on 03/18/03 at 23:30:31 You're not it seems, the more area developers the more difficult it is to keep track of them all. Plus it's hard to find suitable area developers. There are many many areas being added to the game, from various developers, some who are adding player designed ideas. More developers is not feasable. |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by newb on 03/19/03 at 00:20:49 I wouldn't think it would be hard to keep track of 6 area developers who aren't all online at the same time. There were almost twice as many staff as there are now back when I started, what was the reasoning for that? But I guess since JLH and Pandilex have spoken, I guess its not gonna happen. But for all the aspiring area developers out there, telling them that is going to be a real let-down, me included :( |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by Sneak on 03/23/03 at 22:48:46 Ok.. well hard to keep track of current area developers? ok... well considering they aren't on that much and they do play favorites.. such as crushes... not to mention names but i'm sure they could figure out who i am talking about due to where i had asked them to help me with a prob and they turned and around and banned me for merely asking another to stop scrolling me. area developers shouldnt act as sysops but as area developers.. you want things done faster higher sysops that are on more to "monitor" and area developers to.. well AREA DEVELOPE.. Cyric was fired was he not cause of his constant demand to "play god"?? :D |

Title: Re: Area Development Post by Tender_Foot on 03/23/03 at 23:29:21 well, most area developers probably stay hidden to keep people paging them with problems or stupidity while designing theyre areas |
