Title: Abolition Tournament
Post by Inquitus on 03/06/03 at 02:57:46
This tournament is not only lengthy but takes a bit of planning. The idea is to have one Champion to have earned the name Champion by himself without the help of clan members or allies and such.

Have a section on the forum (or players can email the staff member who runs this) where players can sign up for the tournament. After the the given time to sign up is done or the ammount of players to sign up is at its limit no more tournament entries can be allowed. When staff has a list of players, they can pair up the players randomely, 1 v 1, and set a date/time for round one.

Have a few staff running different battles during round one calculating who has been eliminating and who is moving on.

If a player that has signed up for the tournament is not on then the person he was suppose to duel would then automatically move on and he would be disqualified.

When the results of round one are done then staff can set a date/time for round two and follow on and on until the last round... the Abolition Championship.

The awaiting of the next rounds at a later date would allow suspense and preparation for staff and players.

Please post ideas, questions, and comments....constructive critism only please.

Interesting...not too original.  Would be a hassle.  Further discussion necessary?

i've suggested something along these lines numerous times before and it wouldn't be entirely that much hassle if the game had a miniscule amount of support for an event along those lines.

you'd need a waiting room and a series of rooms for to entertain simultaneous duels.

the dueling rooms would need to be set up so that once there if there is one person in the room they would be automatically sent to the waiting room. that way all that would be necessary is drawing comabatants at random each round and finding a way to send them to thier correspong room each round.

perhaps it would be even easier if the waiting room was attached to the dueling rooms. one room of death in each direction outside of the waiting room. then someone running the event would only have to do this much each round.

draw random competitors in groups of two. each pair would move into a room adjacent to the waiting room and await the round to begin.

this would need support also (?). it would be less hassle at this point if the sysop running the event would have control over the pk/nopk status of the arenas so each duel begines at the same time. this would help to avoid people finishing thier duels before everyone is paired away.

then the sysop would simply wait until there are half as many people in the room as there were before and the round would be done.

as it stands now, inquitus' idea would be a hassle but with minimal support from the game it would be a breeze to host 1 round or 4 or more rounds.

Add some monsters who cant be attacked and inflict small ammounts of damage... Just to add a different element.

I totally disagree with you, theres already enough random BS in the game that can turn a fight against you, why add more?

It just seemed a normal tournament... If not a small monster that inflicts small ammounts of damage, something else.

putting superfluous monsters in the middle of a tournament built around even 1 on 1 duels. are you on drugs?

is this tourney only for pople without lives? lets say you advance all the way to the champoinship, but then said champoinship is scheduled to take place during your normal work/school hours.
seems to me, that someone with absolutely too much time on thier hands could be defaulted all the way to champion.

....other than that little quirk, i quite like the idea.

I was just considering mentioning this:  The grid stats recently (few months ago) had an addition that can limit the # of players that can occupy 1 grid.  So, a tournament area could be created that would restrict grid occupants to 2, forcing 1 on 1 battles over a large area.  Intersecting paths would simply be made 'nopk'.
