There are many outcasts in Nightmist who loves clan houses but do not want to join a clan.  They will miss out on many features from the clan houses.  I wish there would be a place where there could be a residential area for the game where people can live in it.

Why not create their own clan?

Title: Re: Houses
Post by dognapot on 02/25/03 at 02:45:53
i've brought this up several times. i'd really like to have a little shotgun shack to call my own. put a vault in it, practice feng shui and whatnot.

although for me it's not a driving factor it would be desirable to others to have a building of thier own to store thier goods without being affiliated with any specific organization. bah, id have a link to a more in depth post on the subject but recent forum cleaning took my post on that.

it's not gonna revolutionize the game (unless things like these are added in addition to the houses http://80.4.180.17/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.pl?board=Suggestions2;action=display;num=1027981715 ) but it would be a nice thing to have. i know id get a house.

I think it would be cool to have alittle area for myself also, and still be able to be in a clan, but still have a place I could hole up.

Post by JLH on 02/25/03 at 03:03:12
It would have to be expensive, as for clans now, there are so many clan houses. so for a personal house, well, i suppose a residential area could be built north from tribal street connecting with west raven street. With other locations in other towns too, price would vary depending on location.
Any staff member want to plan this out and bring a proposal to me and Pandilex?

Despite by 'against' post I'll see what I can do with this.

Appartments could also be a plan, though it would just be a dublication of Realms of Kaos...A garden could be offered where food could be grown.  Herbs could also be sold to local potion shops for profit.  Vault/Storage Room is essential for the house.  The only reason I suggested this idea is because of the vaults for my items to store.  Kitchen is a need for every house...A living room would be where you welcome all the guests and read books and do miscellinous things.  Healing Sauna?  Could replace bathroom...Bedroom, can act as local tavern...

Ohhhh, i would love to have a house. When you bought it, maybe you would have to build it then, no adding on.and the whole houe would be like a vault. you could leave like 5-10 items in every room. but unlike clan houses, anyone can go in, you just have to be in the house owners party. and if you were married to someone you could set that person to be able to enter as well. (really would love to work on this idea) lol, oh well. good luck stotic. :)

Maybe a key could bring you in the house...Occasionally, people will try to come in the house and if there is some one in the house. It will appear as a knock from inside.  The house owner must determine whether he should open the door or not.

Post by ArchAngel on 02/25/03 at 03:57:30
How about a mumble to get in the house, so anyone you want in, you either put in your party, or give them the mumble.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Jenni on 02/25/03 at 04:24:16
That could also be a solution:

As you mumble the password for the entrance, the door slowly opens upon your wish.

As you mumble the password to the gagoyle (forgot how to spell), it slowly changes back to life form and move to the side allowing you for entry.

Sounds good to me :).  Would be really nice if you were allowed to have the creatures put into your house also.  You could have a house AND a puppy, or a mourner, but ya know ;)

Title: Re: Houses

i dont like the mumble idea, on the basis you can find them out. maybe a bestfriend who becomes an ex best friend, a jelous ex (happened to me), hacker, or just some wierdo you dont even know gets lucky. i like they key idea.

If there was a pet in the house, and the mumble idea becomes the final decision.  When your friends takes any item from the house. The pet will attack and follow your friend until the friend or the pet dies...^^ Just a stupid idea.

A Game pet idea was suggested a while ago and many seemed to like the idea but JLH did not approve it.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by ArchAngel on 02/25/03 at 14:42:53
As a pet I am more or less suggesting the ability to put a creature in your house as you are now able to with a clan house.  There is a lis of creatures under Clan Forum which you may choose for a clan house, and I was susggesting to make all of these be available to be put in the new "residential" area.

I like the house idea. Maybe if you buy the house you get 1 room for the 10-50k (I dunno) then you can add rooms.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by King_Macros on 02/25/03 at 19:59:53
i dont think you should be able to add to your house, but if you do, it would have to cost a lot of gold. renivations on houses are very rarely down, and are very expensive. like when you first buy your house, you could say you wanted a downstairs: bathroom, living room, kitchen, dining room; upstairs: bedroom, bathroom (just to make it feel more like a house, i mean come on, there wouldnt be a bank in a house). say bedroom would be like a vault, living room is a meeting area, dining room is pub. I think imagination should be put into this idea :)

Edit: I just read that over, and it sounded like i was saying something else....errr.....let me eleborate? 0.o

I didn't mean people weren't putting imagination into it, i was meaning more ideas should be coming in before a set idea comes out :)

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Stotic on 02/25/03 at 20:24:17
The way I'm planning it is that people will not be able to add to their house.  I will probably have three types of houses.  Each with their own design (descriptions editable via owner).  Maybe Penthouse, Mansion, Small House.  Stuff like that...I'd expand on this later.

Title: Re: Houses

Cottage=Small House?

Title: Re: Houses
Post by King_Macros on 02/25/03 at 23:55:45
ooooh, can we get more then 1? like get 1 per city. I wouldn't mind having a small cottage in nightmist, and also like a penthouse in arilin

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Alicia on 02/26/03 at 02:17:10
heres my idea...

you can purchase a house in a town for say 50k, all houses are in the same location in the same town, ie raven street all the way east then 1 north, you and your party automatically go to your own house, if you dont have one 'you cannot go this way'

the only way you can get into someone else's house is if they are in your party. if you log in someone elses house or log in your own house then sell/move it, you are in the tusk, although there should be a way to allow others (ie your own alts) to be able to log in your house and stay there

you choose which town to have your house in, you can relocate for a fee. each town has a residential square where all the houses in that town are located.

the house consists of one room with a normal vault, adding other rooms would make clan houses less useful.

also, possibility for those with more money to buy extra houses, ie second costs 150k, 3rd 350k, 4th 700k ect. extra houses can be placed in other towns residential locations, and all your houses share the same vault (but can be accessed from any town you have a house in)

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Jenni on 02/26/03 at 02:28:53
Would it be one house per user or character?

Title: Re: Houses
Post by King_Macros on 02/26/03 at 03:33:02
why in the world would a house have one room? im not looking to buy a studio here. As i said before, i would like to see a real 'house setup'.maybe you can set your bedroom as your local, your kitchen is where your food is...well, im not going to go into this again, i already posted it lol. but i dont feel like this idea going to waste. having a house with more then 1 room wont make a clan useles on these basis:

1)Strength in numbers, a house is you alone, a clan is a collective

2)You are buying everything yourself, clan people make donations

3)you cant add on to house, you can add onto clan

4)your alone in your house, in a clan you have people to talk to

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Jenni on 02/26/03 at 06:34:50
Bedroom Features:  Can be set as you local. Heal and Mana for free due to sleeping.  Can store up to 20 items in the bedroom.

Vault Features: Store 100 items in the room.  Mumble lock

Kitchen: Same as clan kitchen room

i like the idea, but the only problem is with that, is that someone might read just click a book and not actually read it. I know in an old game i played, when you talked to an npc a certain ammount of times, you would gain one linguistic (sp?) point. but what people would do (including myself) is hold the macro and enter down, and it would rapidly talk about 60 times a minute, defeating the whole purpose.

I wouldn't mind there just being stories and stuff for me to read rather then going to the site

Mumbles are the way to go.

Title: Re: Houses

People could guess mumbles and break into the houses, best way is party only.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by ArchAngel on 02/27/03 at 05:02:47
Yes that is understandable, I guess I was more or less thinking that it would be difficult for the house to know who you were, like the clan houses do.  But if that is codeable, then yes party would be the best way.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Jenni on 02/27/03 at 06:01:34
About when would the houses be available?

Title: Re: Houses
Post by TheBlackReverend on 02/27/03 at 07:40:12
Ok, how is this idea for how to get in to your house. When you buy a house, the house automatically knows that you can enter it. Then you have a list that you can make of people who the house will recognize and be allowed to enter (This could be provisional on whether you are in the house or not.) This would have the same effect as making duplicate keys for ppl. Only the person who created the house can alter the list, and you can remove anyone at any time (so ppl who might betray you can be taken off immediately.) Also, you can have the idea of house insurance, where you can pay to have your stuff insured. If you have proof something was stolen (a witness or in the log), a sysop will reimburse you a certain percentage.

Also, an interesting idea would make a major change in the game. With the implemetation of things like locking doors, I think theives should have the ability to pick locks. This is a basic theiving ability, and would make having homes a bit riskier than just having a clan house. Of course, if the theif fails at picking the lock and the 'guard dog' notices....watch out.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Tender_Foot on 02/27/03 at 08:08:24
No. That's rediculous to have a list of people to enter the house, it would be like a cheap clan house or clan vault. I personally don't feel like seeing these houses prices sky rocket to keep people from useing them as vaults.

Also I dont think houses should be able to be broken into, period. What people will do is play all day picking locks and killing the 'gaurd' dogs with their archy assassinate and arch rangers and such.

I've been to the RoK website a few times and looked around. There is a feature exactly like what Jenni has suggested. Its a good idea and all, but it sounds like she was looking at the RoK site and just put the idea down on here. Its a big feature too, so it might cause conflict between games. Just a caution.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Tender_Foot on 02/27/03 at 19:32:15
Waht exactly did she suggest that came from ROK?

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Stotic on 02/27/03 at 19:37:17
Houses are a generic issue.  Limiting them to ROK is pointless.  Btw, I hardly ever got into rok.  Blackreverend, you have a good idea going, but as I can see it people will buy "group homes" splitting the cost of it etc.  Considering that clan houses are starting to be put all over the map then the "group home" wouldn't be much different then a clan.  I'll have the proposition for this out in a week.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by newb on 02/27/03 at 19:38:05
Alot of the ideas came from RoK. Just went to the site and found it. http://www.realmsofkaos.com go look under charter members and scroll down a little, you'll see.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Stotic on 02/27/03 at 19:50:06
Tibia also does this.  Both ROK and Tibia give houses as bonuses for donating money.  Nightmist will only sell houses with in-game gold currency.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by newb on 02/27/03 at 20:13:04

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Deval on 02/28/03 at 05:31:18
Realms of Kaos, and shiez, I haven't heard that game discussed in a LONG time. The benefit of having keys for house, allows the 'real estate market' amongst players, naturally, somone wants to move out, someone wants to move in, sell your house through implementation of keys, or an amulet of residency etc etc, making a real estate market that can be managed by players, rather than having to annoy staff when wanting to sell or trade houses.

Houses should be kept to a minimal size, at an absolute maximum of 3 squares, personally I'd rather see it as a 1 square project.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Tender_Foot on 02/28/03 at 18:59:43
Fact of the matter is....houses are bigger then 1 room/square. How bout you walk through your house/apartment Deval and count how many room there are. in my house there's 10, and that's preety small.

Why are you comparing your real life modern age homes with houses in a medieval game?

Either way I really don't think houses should have a max amount of rooms, seeing as clans do not.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Stotic on 02/28/03 at 19:25:52
Houses will come templated unlike clan houses.  You have a good idea Deval, but where would they store the key?  In their vault?  Where's the vault?...in the house.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Tender_Foot on 02/28/03 at 20:38:32
maybe there can be a new thing added, keychain, which would be a bracelet. Almost everyone in the game has atleast 1 wrist slot open

Edit: also, I'm comparing recent houses because clan houses dont seem to 'midevil' to me. Didn't they use to have blacksmith's were your weapons and armor were tailored specifivally for one person? There is a point in this game where midevil meets current and where fantasy meets reality isn't there?

Title: Re: Houses

Title: Re: Houses

Right now my clan owns a HOUSE 5 rooms so maybe a house could be limited to 6 rooms cause that way the clan house will get the advantage but the house will still be fun (oh yeah I have almost come to think of my clan house as a personal project about 2 rooms have not been fully funded by me).

This is a good idea (so is Silverwizard's of 6)
There should be like a downstairs floor as one "room", then up to the second floor "room", then up to the thrid floor "room". The first floor could be a kitchen/sauna/pub, the second floor could be a pub/bank(u could be keeping ur money in a drawer or something) and the third floor could be a vault(attic).

If your going to own a castle create an army (clan) with generals (founders) and sargents (or anyother rank) (leader) and regulars (members) then have them able to share the house how revolutionary.

LIBRARY!!!!!!! I wanna see a library where you can read multiple books, which would be found in the mansion. I think everything should be changed to suit a house too, rather then completely copying sauna and putting it in, it could be a bedroom with button sleep. And i definately wanna see a bathroom, no point to it, but still, would love to see one.

I'll say sorry to start with, but i didn't have much time to read all the posts here, But i was wonder:

Could you invite other people into your house? Let other people stay, maybe give them a key to come live with you..?
With the idea of a library, some of the stories written on the RP section, would any of them be turned into a book, that you can buy, put in your library then read?
We could open NightMist into a whole new literature place. People come, write, advertise their work - Sorry, went a bit off there...

I like the idea of having a house. I just hope i can afford one :-/

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Ashton on 03/06/03 at 15:19:18
I think the idea of houses is a good one, and the idea of people sharing a house realistic, as long as that number is 2 people. Also, to keep everyone from sharing everyone's house, you could make it so that you can only live in one house at a time, otherwise you could have the same person living in three or more different houses.

Title: Re: Houses
Post by Maesse on 03/06/03 at 20:41:23
The idea of Houses in game is a good one, and I have seen a few good points brought up, let me start out by saying im sorry if an idea i post has already been said, I'm simply reinforcing that idea and agreeing with you :-)

If  you want to stick with the mid-evil theme, the terms Cottage, Keep, Manor, Estate and Castle could be used instead of House, Apartment, Penthouse?

I agree with the idea of keeping the rooms limited only because they will be too much like clans...and I think the whole point here is to not be like clans.

As for the issue of Keys and mummbles and what not, I don't see why mumble wouldnt work, just be creative in your thinking up of your mumble.  Beside, if you have alts its so much less hassle to just type in a mummble instead of having to swap keys form crit to crit or logging on the "owner"of the home without real need...less crits logged in = less lag ;-) Keep it simple!

Librarys would be a cool 'perk' to have for houses, and a basment or dungeon as well.

I suppose that having the option to buy one square for people that just want a place to store stuff, a vault, and calling it a Shack then having the option to buy a floor plan and get a house that way would satisfy everyone's needs wouldnt it?

*shrug*

Just my thoughts... Can't wait to see what comes out of this thread. GO Stodic Go!!!! *cheers*

One of these days I'll get into the mindset of doing it.  Right now I'm still finishing up an area.

have you ever taken time out to read the theme of nm?  the towns where there then suddenly a mist overtook the map, bringing along a mass of MONSTERS... thus the large quantities of foul creatures.

second thing, gold is varied on where you r, just because way back in medival times they didnt have the "California Gold Rush" does not mean that that quantity of gold could not be there.

on a lighter note, id like to say that i love the progression this idea has had.

(1) stotics idea of templated houses is great, you can afford what is in your price range, i.e. shack, cottage, etc.

(2) Library, awesome, two thumbs up... i love the idea of actually having more things like talise's journal, and the tattered journal, to look over/read.

(3) the key thing wont work, if someone is filling two bracelet spots there is no room for the key, and no one is dumb enough to carry it in regular inven.  altho i like the idea of parties, but here is my twist. make titles like the clan but for residential homes i.e. instead of chairman, head of house, instead of founder, wife/husband, and leave member as member (of family).  but still only limiting the houses to 3 ppl, so as to keep people from splitting costs.

and finally (4) the templated houses should have a set number of rooms, shack 1, cottage 3, etc. but let the person choose thier rooms.  like say i were to buy a cottage, i want a place to store items(vault/living area), a place to refresh(bedroom/pub), and a place to eat(kitchen).  this way if someone chooses a shack but only wants to refresh for free and make local, it can be made like a pub, and if another person also chooses a shack but just wants a storage area(vault) they are free to have either.

ty :D

Ohhhhh, I like that idea - but husband/wife should be able to live in the same house as they are now 'married'

Who says you need to be married to own a house? This fanaticism with playing family is astounding.

people who have 2 bracelet spots filled? are we talking about a total of, what, 50 crits at MOST out of 10000? come on, bracelet space would be fine.

And those are the 50 who will probably be able to afford the luxury houses.

What does that have to do with the majority of house buyers having their bracelet slots filled in?

Well Deval, about the whole playing family, who knows, I'm sure everyone who's every played NM has been married at one point in their gaming life.

its not the marriage part that im really trying to get at as much as trying to keep 2 random ppl from splitting a house.(yes i know this still means ppl would get married to split the house, but im sure it would keep two guys from marrying to split a house dont you?) :P

Okay Og I see where your trying to get at but it's not going to stop people from giving all the gold requried to build the house to one person then get them to build the house so the two of them or three could live in it.

Well, I can be assured in saying not even 50 people have 2 bracelet spots filled, and they wont be the majority buyers in houses. I have well voer a million gold at times, i've never had one bracelet spot filled. The only bracelet able to be gotten by the masses are the 'blah blah blah soul blah blah blah pandilex' bracelet, which even those a lot of people dont have 2 of

I said gaming life people, that doesn't mean before this post, it means past and future, you don't know what can happen, you may get married, but I think if you were to do polls I think the yes I've been married before or still am would be a higher ratio then no I have not. But this is going off topic.

By using has you automatically secluded it to past-only.

BTW expect a rough copy of this in the coming days.
