Title: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Sauruman on 02/09/03 at 17:02:37 Looking at the way Nightmist is set up, the medival-esque timeframe and the way the classes are balanced, there's one class that would fit nicely into the scenario. Bounty hunters. Rangers counterpart is the Druids. Fighters counterpart is the Paladin. Clerics counterpart is the Mage. Theives counterpart is the ??? Bounty Hunter. They could use a myriad of weapons, mainly projectile and traps. Lvl 1, Crossbow. base damage, 3. Cost, 100 g. Description: This is the weapon used by entry level bounty hunters. Made out of the wood from the large forest and twine, it doesn't look very intimidating. Lvl 5, Oak Crossbow. Base damage, 7. Cost, 120g. Description: This crossbow is very similar to the regular crossbow, but made out of fine oak and a high tension thread. The draw on this crossbow is longer, giving the arrows more power. Lvl 13, Compound Crossbow. Base damage, 10. Cost, 600g. Description: With four draw strings and a recoiling bow, this crossbow packs a serious puch. Often used by journeyman bounty hunters. Lvl 17, Recurve Crossbow. Base damage, 16. Cost, 3k. Description: At first glace it's hard to tell which way the bow is facing, due to it's opposite curve. But it all becomes apperent once it's quiver silently peirces your chest with considerable force. Lvl 21, Mahogany Crossbow. Base damage, 21. Cost, 8k. Description: This crossbow accurately balances beauty with lethal potential. Made of highly polished Mahogany wood, you can see your reflection on its surface, if only for the instant before launches quivers from it's dual shafts. Lvl 25, Iron Crossbow. Base damage, 24. Cost, 15k. Description: Striking fear into all that see it, this is the crossbow prefered by the master bounty hunters. Bounty hunters have been known to end up decapitated after firing the crossbow and having the steel cable snap back. Abilites: Lasso. 'A rope flys from the bounty hunter's hand and lassos you, rendering you immoble.'. Lasts for 5 seconds, encreases with level. Stalk. Similar to track. Decoy. Places a decoy picture of the Bounty Hunter in that square for 30 seconds. The decoy can be 'killed'. Purpose is to trick invisible/coverted enemies into coming out into the open, and to trick a ranger or fighter into using their stamina. Traps. Can be bought at weapon shops, exclusively for Bonunty Hunters. Traps give no exp points. Lvl 1 trap, spiked trap. maximum damage is 20hp. Lvl 10 trap, poisioned trap. maximum damage is 30hp with poision. lvl20 trap, booby trap. maximum damage is 45hp with immobilization for 10 seconds. Lvl30 trap, explosive trap. maximum damage is 60hp. When a Bounty Hunter pks someone, their items go to his inventory rather than drop to the ground, unless his inventory is full, and they're always on /toggleloc. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Leafstorm on 02/09/03 at 20:47:48 Cleric's counterpart is Paladin, not mage. Mage has no counterpart at the momment (I think). |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Sauruman on 02/09/03 at 21:41:44 A Paladin is a variation of a fighter. They are similar in the sense that they can both wield swords. A Druid is the closest variation of a Ranger than any of them. They both have the upper hand in forests/wooded areas. Whereas a Mage is strong in magic, he uses black magic, or harmful magic. A Cleric, on the other hand, is strong but uses white magic, or aiding magic. Theives, like I said, are kinda out there by their lonesome. A Bounty Hunter would fit in perfectly, seeing as people (in a nightmist like timeframe) who got somewhat ticked off about a consistant theif would pay a bounty hunter to get back their valuables stolen, or just flat out have him killed. And how many times have people given suggestions for bouny hunters? wasn't there even a bounty list on the website? It even has the bounty hunter base, it just needs the character. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Sapper3 on 02/09/03 at 22:16:31 I personally think the bounty hunters is a great idea. It sounds like it would make the game a lot more interesting. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Silverwizard on 02/11/03 at 00:44:44 UMM I have found a problem that might arise how might the traps work? A trap system I can think of is you can lay them for 2 stam for all traps but the spiked pit. They are layed by using the trap. The trap can be layed in pkable places and have the same chance to affect you as part of an area. That is my only problem and it is mearly clarification. Otherwise I think that this class would be GREAT!!!!!! |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Sauruman on 02/11/03 at 01:09:05 Kinda didn't spot that. Good one, Silver. :D And perhaps they could have a boss drop from a dragon in a lair somewhere in the sewers, Like Ivory Bow (from the dragon's bones) or something. Just a -slight- suggestion. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Deval on 02/11/03 at 05:21:46 Actually sounds like a mad cool yeah class, and it seems it would work. How about adding a little more variation and possibility for individuality by giving them more weapons than just crossbows, these are Bounty Hunters we are talking about, allow large knives, swords, and projectiles. Each higher level weapon of style having its bonus and its weaknesses, to create more diversity amongst crits, like different chances to hit, the ability to use a shield, max damage variations, etc etc. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Deval on 04/17/03 at 07:54:35 Hmn, not sure about poision. They can use a hyrdra thorn for that. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Bill on 04/17/03 at 09:23:14 Oh yeah, i missed that bit, i was thinking maybe the ability to poison their arrows, meaning they do a fair bit of damage and then a bit of poison, the hydra thorn doesn't really do much damage and it's only a 1/10 chance. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Masterchief on 04/17/03 at 13:19:01 Supreme idea, thats really cool but maybe make the traps more powerful. I hope the staff atleast note this if not make em'. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by wonderful_nightmare on 04/17/03 at 20:45:31 i was wondering if we could somehow link this to the part where you can put a price on some players head? so only bountyhunters can get it when killing the person? :D maybe even make something that the more someone is worth the more exp he will lose (otherwise it's useless to put a price on someones head.) |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Bean on 04/20/03 at 08:20:22 Excellent class idea, My first thought was 'Why not just put this all on thieves and be done with it' But then I thought about class balance and such. But yeah wicked class idea. Can you imagine following a lvl 30 bounty hunter around trying to kill him? You step onto one square, there is a trap, It does 60 damage to you and poisons you, And also on the next square, and the other three after that. By the time you get past the five squares where is the bounty hunter? gone, Never to be seen again. Brilliant suggestion, Was well thought out, and I support it 100% |

maybe this could get really annoying and make them a lil too strong. maybe make it so that like there can be only 1 trap in a 3 square radius? or something like that? and if someone is tracking a bountyhunter would the traps work? cuz the two players enter the square exactly at the same time. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Sauruman on 04/22/03 at 07:24:47 Sadly, the trap would have to work seeing as vines hits clan/nopkd/party members. And the traps would be like the traps in the scarlet daggers guild. "you avoided a trap" and then there's 'protect' that mages have. The traps also use stamina, so it would be a hard to lay them quickly. And now that I stop and think about it, Decoy would have to use stamina as well, similar to the way thieves covert works. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Pazzer on 04/22/03 at 18:15:08 This sounds wickid maybe a 2 square radius on those traps and it tells the BountyHunter who and when whoever got caught on the trap like *Your trap exploded in JLH's face /killing him* |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by DragonZero on 04/23/03 at 14:00:37 Good idea, i would very much like this in the game, but ppl would abuse it say like set 30 or so traps on a square, 'you have been hit for 156412 damage by several traps' ...limit on how many traps can be placed at a given time... then i would love the idea |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Melfice on 04/23/03 at 23:39:46 Yeah i think the traps will need a lot of thought but overall i think the idea is really cool. It would add a much needed rpg atmosphere to the game. Well thought out :D |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Gad on 04/27/03 at 08:38:03 I think the class would be most excellent, but that it would take tons and tons of work to make them. I think it'd be better to have some new areas than a new character..especially with how little time ago zerkers came out. |

Title: Re: Bounty Hunters (hear me out) Post by Rampage on 04/27/03 at 08:45:08 I'd much rather have a new character than an area, everyone can create the new character, while only some people can go in the area without being killed by monsters/players. |
