Title: Resetting Magic Users
Post by Sera on 11/04/03 at 23:08:33
I was thinking (it's been known to happen) when you make a crit.. and you lvl it some..and it's not getting great hp/mp but you want to see how it develops and you buy the spells for it... you buy a "book".  Now why can't it be made that, if you decide to reset this crit, you can keep the spells but only pay a small fee to be taught the spells at the proper level, rather than have to pay for the book again? (The spell would not be able to be used until they are the proper level and could be taught to use that spell). When you reset a crit it's items are in the inventory... why can't the spells stay, but just not be used?

Non-magic users don't even have to PAY for thier abilities, they are already there when you make the char and just have to wait til the correct level to use them.

If the person would change the class though, they would lose all their spells.

Any thoughts?

Hmm...Reset the crit. 'Scroll of Heal', 'Scroll of Shock' etc etc.. could be in the inventory, providing there is enough space left to cope with all spells.

Yeah, it's been suggested before.. But keeping the scrolls would be too much for some classes, Clerics mainly. But it'd be good if you could, and then sell them on to others..

That is why I suggested you still have the spells listed... but you have to pay a small fee to re-learn them. Alone's idea also works with the returning of the gold.

What if you reset as another class?

I remember JLH saying something a while back on a thread, about making it so that even if you reset a crit it will gain the exact hp/mp as it did before....

Either you would be s.o.l  or you could get your gold back I guess. All depends on what JLH would decide to do.

maybe boss drop/expensive scrolls be returned only . . .

Any answer from JLH?

BTW, another reason I thought they could just stay there and you pay a small fee to learn them is cause when you reset your equip goes to your inventory.. if all your scrolls do too, would there be room?

I heard something about that... but it's not active as of now.  Of course if he does add it, it would nullify this idea completely.  I do like this idea though.

juz dont buy the spells until you know yr keeping the crit... you only need heal, salve or shock depending on what class you are, and they are cheap enough

Resetting was never intended to be abused to give your characters better hit points.

I said relevel, not reset. I coulda sworn I did...

Then what IS the point of resetting without changing class?

The reset thing was there so you can change your class...

But then why is there two options in the menu, one to just reset, and one to reset with class change?

resetting allows you to re-level for fun, or rename for free

Because when you've just spend the last 2 weeks of your entire life levelling away in the desert, and you Finally reach level 30, the first thing you do it reset so you can have the 'fun' of doing it all again, right?  :P
